of all his crazy gimmicks this is in my mind the worst. with a wall all i see is a gigantic waste of steel and concrete that could have been used for infrastructure improvements everywhere. spend a little more money on drones/cameras/seismic monitoring/etc or even a dedicated satellite.

he could probably strongarm mexico into revising trade deals and throw in a small portion of the wall cash and get them to use their military to seal up their side of the border.

Exactly, that money could be better spent doing literally almost anything else. It's always funny/sad to see conservatives complain about government waste and then propose pissing away billions on something dumb like this.

It isn't needed. The BP has all the resources it needs to secure the border today. There are enough agents to hold hands along the border. The strategy of the BP needs to change from defense in depth to actually patrol the border. We also need to nail employer asses to the wall when they hire illegals. All that supply side interdiction ever accomplishes is that it raises prices for smugglers. Demand reduction is the key ending the human and drug trafficking. But employers in jail and drug treatment are no where near as sexy as high tech walls and high speed chases.

This. Comprehensive approach needs to include removing demand for illegals by unscrupulous employers. You can effectively seal the border without building a physical wall. Use technology and smart resource allocation.

You can't blame someone desperate for seeking a way to provide for their family, so I don't place the blame on those trying to come over. We have to take away the incentives (jobs, bennies, free education etc etc) and make it very difficult (closely monitored and guarded border) and it solves the problem.

Then why hasn't it been done for the last 8 years ? If it's the law ?

Because neither the politicians on the left nor the right are interested in solving the problem. The left wants more illegals because they want more votes and many don't want borders at all, while on the right they want cheap labor to help drive business profits. The voice of the people is nowhere to be found in that equation, so the problem has not been addressed at all.

I agree, however the voice of the people in 2016 wants the wall built and elected a person that they think will proceed to do it. It will be a damn shame if the wishes of the citizens are denied again.

I'm hoping that because Trump made it such a big part of his platform and election campaign he'll be forced to actually do something rather than just pay it lip service like others. It's hard though, because as soon as you talk about enforcing laws or having an actual border you'll be met with cries of racism/xenophobia/hatred/bigotry and other such baloney.

Cite the frequency of illegals voting. Or is that more like recitation of a religious creed?

Illegals living here have children here. Those children when they grow up can legally vote as they are US citizens. Hence, over time more illegals = more democrat votes. Is this really too complicated for you?

So, wait... you're apologizing in advance for no Wall because the out of power Democrats will thwart him, or what?

I'm not apologizing for anything, I just said it's hard for anyone to tackle because they'll be accused of all sorts of nasty things. It's not easy, I'm hoping Trump is up to the task.

Seems to be too complicated for you. He asked about proof of illegals voting while you're talking citizens. Try again.

Apparently you're in that "it's too complicated for me to comprehend" boat. I didn't say anything about illegals voting, so asking about proof of illegals voting is useless drivel. They don't want more illegals here to have them directly vote (although I'm sure many lefties would love to have them vote as well), they want them to increase their future voter rolls.

I really can't see any better use of money or resources then strengthening our control of our borders, whether it takes mega-tons of concrete and re-awakening the US steel industry to providing tens of thousands of shovel ready construction jobs it's all a win-win to me.

Great. Luckily we don't make policy based on your ill-informed opinions.

Scared little Republicans with their walls and their guns. Can't even compete against people who don't speak English but feel entitled to the American Dream. Good luck with that. :)

I love how fiscal conservatives want to spend billions and billions building this wall when all you would need to do is make it a felony to hire an illegal.

Good idea, but how can an everyday employer know that someone is an illegal? What if they use a false social security number or have a fake id ? Should the federal government step in and seize an illegal alien when they use illegal means to get hired?

That isn't the subject of this thread, this thread is about the wall. Stick to the subject.
the wall is a joke and will never be built as he advertised it. It's an economic impossibility, logistical nightmare and would incur so many lawsuits it would take decades to complete. But drumpf is very familiar with lawsuits, so there is that

There is no guarantee they would use US made steel. Heck the Dems had a clause in an infrastructure bill just now that would have mandated the use of domestically produced steel until the Republicans stripped that out.

Those are your heroes.

Except President-elect Trump supports Buy American and Hire American, maybe that's why they're trying to pass this on Obama's watch.
You know it's never too late to jump on the Trump train.
