well its seems pretty simple. I said the type of person that spent 1000 bucks on Titan will not be upset about the 780. and why would that be? because they knew they were buying a card that was going to look silly at some point. so again a card like that is not an investment so the type of person that buys it is not going to be upset when a better value comes out a few months later. but keep arguing for the sake of arguing though. lol

I'm going to wait until the 23rd before making any additional comments on price, but I wouldn't necessarily expect the 780 to make the Titan to look silly. Again, the Titan is for an extreme niche of multi-monitor gamers who want high amounts of VRAM for that purpose. A 3GB 780 will fall on it's face in situations where the Titan may shine. The Titan will allow full MSAA and OGSSAA and SGSSAA while a GTX 780 with 3GB will not even function unless it is using *only* FXAA. That's what the VRAM is for - the best image quality and best settings in multi monitor environments.

Now, if there is anyone out there using a Titan for 1080p single screen I would call THAT silly. Heck, I would even state that a Titan for single WQHD resolution would be silly. You don't need 6GB VRAM for a single screen, that is far beyond overkill. But this isn't my point - the point is, I don't think the GTX 780 will make the Titan look silly. :) They are still for two different types of gamers by design intent.

what I meant was making it look silly from a price/performance perspective. the people buying Titan did not care about that though.

If the DP is the selling point of the titan, and the (however slight) justification to the absurd price, then the 780 could be the $500 card without DP and without 6GB.

Regardless, at the rumored +10% performance (over GHz), even at $500 it's not very special, just an incremental upgrade.

Haswell is just an incremental upgrade over Ivy, but it still gives me an extra excuse to upgrade over my old i3.

As long as the 7 series doesn't delay Maxwell I don't see any downside.

Everything I am seeing says 20% over 7970GE.

Are you sure about that? I have read a lot of the rumours on GTX780 performance and it is ~20%% faster than GTX680, not 7970GE. Of course we need more info to make a more definitive guess so that number might change.

I would expect ~12% average higher performance than 7970GE with some extreme outliers depending on game for both cards. GTX680 is $450 and 7970GE is $400. Given how close they will be in performance to GTX780 no way $700 would be justified for a volume part, even if it does come with a pretty cooler.

Unfortunately both Nvidia and AMD have demonstrated in the past they are more than happy to price cards at extortionate prices. They are faceless, soulless corporations after all.

The 7970GE is NOT $400. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0GHz%20Edition

Cheapest before any rebate is $450. Cheapest with rebate is $420

Cheapest GTX680 is $430. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ce%20GTX%20680

Relax. There are 7970's with the 1GHz clocks for $400.

Twin Frozr boost 1000/1050MHz $400.

Yes there's a limited sale on a 680 for $430, the rest are $460 and so will that one when the sale is done. The 7970's with 1GHz clocks are normal priced with 4 games.

EDIT(Fixed after wand3r3r corrected):1000 core, 1050 boost
6000 mt/s

Is 7970 GHz edition.
Anything less is not GHz edition.

Please don't lie.

@tviceman Yeah that's true. Well, so ones on sale for $400, the next one up is $420 AR.

I don't follow the pricing too closely as they are such old cards. Interesting that they are fairly close in price although the AMD card's a little faster with 4 games. Then again it's just a crappy reference card and who knows how long the sale is (so maybe not too interesting).

Funny how the egg doesn't bother listing core clocks on the sapphire.

Maybe now we can get back on topic. Still waiting to see some actual benches leak from a reputable site.

I'd rather just say $420 and not have to tie GHz to the worst gpu cooler on the market.

While it is an utterly atrocious card, at least you can send it back to the manufacturer without lieing if there's anything wrong with it at GHz clocks.

Really hope they're using 70%+ asic quality since that cooler barely dissipates 230w, let alone 275w+ measured by review sites under testing.

The presumptive price for the 780 does seem pretty high, but it's to be expected I suppose. The Titan came out in Feb. this year, and nVidia must already have the 780 all planned out at that time. It's too bad that it only come with 3GB of VRAM.
