So you're arguing that doughnuts, soda, chips, french fries, and fried foods are good for you?

It's fine in moderation.

I'm surprised my heart's still pumpin.

Heh. Snickers was on there.

These foods are not necessarily bad for you, unless you are an American Indian or an Eskimo. Moderation is the key...

Its the seconds and thirds and the stuff in between the meals that gets you in trouble.

No real surprises here, but here you go:

The Five Absolute Worst Foods You Can Eat

Once again...

According to an article in JAMA, 750,000 people die each year as a result of our healthcare system.

It's 250,000, and what they neglect to tell you is that a large majority would die without any intervention. Sometimes the tough decisions that have to be made in the spur of the moment result in death, but if no decision was made most, would die anyway. Some are certainly preventable, but nothing is perfect.

No, but eating a fry isn't like gulping down motor oil, which is what the guy makes it sound like. He just wants you to buy stuff.

So they're good for you "in moderation"?

It's pretty clear from reading the replies here why our health care costs are out of control.

Such ignorance.

I think fried toxic waste should be #1 on that list. That, and fried parts from a used Soviet nuclear reactor core.

I read the soda article, this guy is a fvcking moron.

Tap Water: I recommend that everyone avoid drinking tap water because it can carry any number of chemicals including chlorine, trihalomethanes, lead, cadmium, and various organic pollutants. Tap water is the main ingredient in bottled soft drinks.

The only water that DOESN'T have minerals and whatnot in it is DISTILLED water, and nobody wants to drink that.

Correct, Distilled water can be bad for you because it can REMOVE minerals and nutrients from your body.

And then the moron condtridicts himself in the distilled water article...
The most toxic commercial beverages that people consume (i.e. cola beverages and other soft drinks) are made from distilled water.

No, the health care costs are out of control because morons keep suing physicians who make good-faith efforts.

Okay, so you agree with Mercola. What's the problem here?

And how much of the 1.6 TRILLION we spend on health care annually do you think that represents?

Guess what? There's a bit of difference between "good" and "bad". I believe I said that kind of food is "fine" in moderation. Read a bit.

Care to show how that number was calculated? Or was it just pulled from some unmentionable area of your anatomy?

Malpractice insurance for physicians and the continuing insistance of people to prolong life well past design parameters are causing most of the uptick. Also, the huge liabilities of drug companies. What people fail to realise is that for ever successful "overpriced" drug that comes onto the market there are _hundreds_ of failed drugs that never made it past testing and whose billions (individually) of dollars in research costs have to be recouped somehow. Each successful drug supports the development of hundreds of other non-successful drugs.

Quite simply: the closer a food is to it's natural state, the better it is for you. The more it has been processed, the worse it is for you.

Chemicals that are not naturally consumed in large amounts, such as chlorine and flouride in tap water, are not good for you.

Being healthy consists of much more that just 'calorie intake and burning calories'. Nutrients, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, chemicals, charged particles, etc. all play a part in your health. It seems 'common sense' to me that natural foods are going to be better than processed foods. Humans survived for thousands of years off of the foods that grew naturally on this Earth. If time travel were possible, going back 100 years and going into a grocery store would look MUCH different than it does today, and it would be healthier.

Anyway, arguing is pointless. Most people are too closed-minded and mentally influenced from birth in this country (read: brainwashed) to believe anything but the FDA and drug companies. Nevermind that drug companies do the EXACT same thing as Mercola... tell you about a 'problem' and then sell you their drug to 'fix it'.

Oh yeah, natural supplements almost never have any side effects. How many synthetic drugs have zero side effects? Zero.
