Just got back from watching it and it is really good. Everyone should watch it so I can go see some sequels.

the hooker with a heart of gold bs doesn't quite cut it. i hope serenity is better, but the tv show was way overhyped by the joss wheaton cult. thing had bad plots, unbelievable universe, bad acting, cliche for crew, many totally useless boring and paper thin characters, and was just predictable. i saw it on dvd because of the hype and was underwhelmed and dissapointed. even saw it in order so that stuff about fox sinking it is bs. the pilot was pretty shoddy. nothing groundbreaking or innovative here just old yuk yuk sci fi corniness.

Just flew back home to CA from NY on Jetblue, and they had FF episodes playing all the way back on the SciFi channel.

just saw the movie.
i'm a big fan of the TV show.
but the movie was eh.
SPOILERS:
- River is unstoppable in combat. WTF?! oh come on. i've had it up to here with these i'm a weak little girl, but on a command sequence, i turn into Wolverine and take down everything in sight (EASILY)!!
- Inara (the hooker w/the heart of gold) => it felt like the writers forgot about her, and wrote her in at the last minute. Hell, the Red shirts on Star Trek fit better into their plotline than Inara in this movie.
- oh come on.. why didnt they continue with the men with hands of blue?
- demystifying the Reavers => What a huge let down. So much more could have been done if they left the background of the Reavers alone. and chose a different reason why the Alliance comes after River.
- and that amarda combat scene is soooo silly. Why in the world does the bad guy need every combat ship in the sector (dozens of them) to goto a planet that Firefly (unarmed transport) is traveling to? sure, a couple of extra ships (at most) incase firefly runs. But dozens of them?! and he's not even expecting ship combat.
the answer=> to have an excuse for a huge fleet battle between the alliance and reavers. oh god, that was soooo unneeded into the plot. this was the stupidest part of the storyline.
- Final fight sequence between Mal and the chief bad guy (who is a master in combat):
Yeah, Mal is quicker at the draw than the bad guy. yeah right... and why didnt mal kill him off when the bad guy was down. he knows (from a previous encounter) that the bad guy wears body armor.
jeez, this whole fight was soooo unbelievable.

Saw it a couple weeks ago at a press screening, saw it last night at midnight (a friend of mine rented a theater for Rice kids, pretty good turnout).
