"The Perfect Sale" - 6 Steps to Success

ATTN: BBY Computer/SOHO

1) Introduce the PSP (product service plan) in your presentation. Do not wait till the end.

Ex.
Sales Associate: I understand your daughter is going off to college, and while she'll be away we offer a protection plan that will cover anything that goes wrong with her computer/laptop.
Customer: No, I'm not interested
SA: Well it's something that you really should look into. Because if anything were ever to go wrong with your daughters computer she would have to take it in to be repaired. To give you an estimate, we charged $60/hr to decide what is wrong with it and $80/hr to fix it not including additional parts that may be needed.
C: I really don't need that, doesn't the computer come with a warranty.
S: Well that's a good question. This computer comes with a 6 month warranty but does not cover parts. Know here is a side by side comparison of what we cover and what the manufacturer covers.( hand customer comparison sheet and fill it out in front of him/her).
C: Ok, but I'm really not interested I just want the computer.
S: Are you sure, because you are really passing up a great deal here, if something ever happens while your daughter is away she could have no computer for up to a month.
C:No, I'm sure.

*1*At this time make sure to sell at least 3 accessories and if it is a laptop make sure to offer a bundle deal and a Platinum PSP**

*2*Once you have successfully added at least 3 accessories to the sale take the customer to a mobile register away from the floor traffic.**

*3*Since you Have been unsuccessful selling the Service Plan, Have another associate go with you to "help you" ring up the sale.**

*4*The other associate will help you tag team the customer. The other associates job at this point is to point out how amazing the computer is and what a great deal it is. Once you scan the computer/laptop the Kiosk will ask you if the customer wants the Service Plan. The accompanying sales associate will say, "hey did 'Joe' tell you about the Service Plan that covers anything that may go wrong with your computer...?**

*5* If your accompanying associate is unable to get the Service Plan then you must say, "I'm sorry I'm new here and there seems to be something wrong with my kiosk, I'll be right back with my supervisor and he will be able to fix it."**

*6* You return with your Supervisor, and now You, the accompanying associate and your supervisor Tag Team the Customer Once again until the Service Plan is accepted by the Customer.**

It should not take you till step 6 to close the sale, but if you are unsuccessful in the beginning you must follow the set procedures. Your Supervisor will conduct Roll-Playing During This Month's Sunday Morning Monthly Meeting.

If you didn't buy the three accessories then that may be exactly what they want you to do. Businesses like Best Buy don't make their money on selling you computers.

I once told a CSR that if (after the 4th time) he pitched another item to me I would shout at the top of my lungs, "stfu, no i just want the stuff i picked out and no for the 5th f-ing time i don't want your goddamn serviice plan". He didn't say another word till after i finished my purchase.

I felt bad b/c i know its the policy of BB to annoy the customer until they give in, but i'm tired of feeling like i'm bartering in Tijuana when i shop there

but to the topic, it's true that their service plan is where they make money. But honestly, on thigns under $50 i do buy the plan, it's only like $10 for a very hassle-free replacment, i've got replacements twice on sub-$50 headsets i've broken, and not by accident :)

You think that's bad? There's a smaller chain called Future Shop up here, owned by BB, which reams you for Monster, PSP, Monster, PSP, iPod, PSP. Then wen you finally get to the cash register "Would you like to buy one of our PSP's to cover your..." NO!

kranky: I'm not interested in the PSP, I'm never going to buy the PSP, and I'm not going to stand around and get tag-teamed. If you mention it one more time I'm going to walk out the door. All I need and all I'm going to buy is this computer. Are you going to take me to the checkout right now or not?

SA: Well, that wasn't in the role-play.

:D

In addition to that i'd probably add "and the only way you'll get me to buy the psp is if you give me a discount on the computer for the cost of the psp." ...or something.

Dude, their accidental plans are pretty hot on laptops. $349 for 3 years of any kind of damage. For college, that actually sounds useful...

Of course, I've never read the limitations.

The limitations are that god himself would have difficulty in convincing them that there interpretation of the policy coverage is in his benefit.

Right they put that much effort into selling the PSP because they are such good deals for the customers

Hey, did 'videogames101' tell you about the Service Plan that covers anything that may go wrong with your computer?

I'm sorry, I'm new here and there seems to be something wrong with posting. I'll be right back with the moderators, and they will be able to fix it.

You know what the sad thing is? This may be BB's policy and it's horrible, HOWEVER, their emplyees are so horrible that not one of them probably even knows half those steps, much less all of them in the right order.

So I doubt anyone would ever be put through this unless the associate just walked out of the meeting.

And not once will they tell the buyer that when they do bring in the computer we have to send it off if it's past the 14 day return period and it will be up to three weeks before they will get their computer back. Because of that the people over in GeekSqaud get screamed at for twenty minutes since no one told them it had to be sent off and how ridiculous it is since the computer, vacuum, T.V is only (insert time of ownership) old.

Bitter? Yes.

<--Ex GeekSqaud.

I've only ever known 1 person getting his money's worth out of a service plan. My friend bought a very poorly thought out 2 year/unlimited mileage service plan for his Honda motorcycle. They paid not only for maintenance, but for wear and tear items like chain, sprockets, and tires, valve adjustments, etc. and when a cam chain went bad that they couldn't fix after more than 2 months, he got them to buy back his bike (at a very good price), cut him a deal on a 2007 model, and switch all of his aftermarket parts to the new bike. Oh, and my friend is also a lawyer, so that may have had something to do with it. If you add up parts and labor that he would have had to pay for all of this stuff, it was probably in the $3-4000 range and the service plan was about $900.

This was a dealer written policy, though. You'll never find a Best Buy policy written that poorly.

I usually reply with " If it costs more than a dollar I am not interested", that usaully ends the conversation.

I've had something similar happen to me at Sears Furniture. They went as far as to show me some sample paperwork from a customer that bought extended warranty from them and had to use it. That same paperwork had customers home address and phone number.

It wasn't until I told them that if they don't close the sale in the next 30 seconds I'm walking away did they leave me alone.
