What I was running: 2800+ 2GB RAM 7800GS and got 10-15fps in shatt with low-medium settings and there would be a lot of stutter (but not in raids/instances).

Finally had enough and picked up a new machine (needed one for media encoding anyway)...

What I'm running now: Q6600 quad core on Vista64 w/ 4GB RAM ati4850 and getting 60fps consistent in shatt with all maxed settings.

It appears they increased the range and density of some of the graphics effects. I upgraded my computer to E8500 4GB RAM and kept my 8800 GTS 320MB running on Vista. I noticed the stutters as well, this was really interesting because before i upgraded i had an AMD 3700+ with 2GB and hardly had any stutters at all, but this was also before the 3.0 patch. i started messing around with Vista to see if maybe something was bogging the game down, but in the end the biggest culprit it seems, was the shadow effects slider. Once i turned it down, everything ran fine. I'm considering at used 280GTX now to avoid any possible problems in the future. :)

I'm running a 7900gs on a 22" and a 8800Gt on a 24". I went into the video menu while adjusting things after the last patch and noticed everything was high except the shadows. Cranked that up while standing at the dock in ratchet and felt my comp creak to a stop. Put it back down and runs fine again. That was on the 7900gs, maybe I'll try it on the 8800gt but I'd expect the same given that card also does a higher res output.

Is there a combo spec that I can pve level, but still main heal in instances without respec'ing?

Something like this will work quite nicely. Things have changed around a bit, but I two healed ZA using a Dreamstate build on bear runs for a while pre 3.0(didn't top the healing charts once- stinking chain heal spamming shammy, that actually made me go back tree ;) ). This build goes a bit deeper into Balance, and several of the points used there depend greatly on your gear(Vengeance is only really worth with fairly high crit) and focused on soloing, not pure dps. You really want to have at least into GoN for healing, and just how the talents work out using Rejuv is going to be, in relative terms, OP by quite a bit compared to normal for you. Not ideal, but you should very easily be able to heal any instance with this build.

70 Night Elf Druid - Kytella - Aggramar (I can't link to the armory from work because..well, I'm at work. But feel free to look me up if you're wondering about my build/gear)

I'm wondering if, when dual speccing comes around, if it is worth it to spec Balance/Resto or Balance/Feral for running instances and leveling. Right now I'm pure Balance. Any other druids thinking along these routes?

That's funny.. I run the same combo as you.. on Vista 64 with a 8800GTS 512 and run with everything maxed and have since WoTLK beta started 6 months ago and still runs like a champ at 1680x1050 no slowdown or stuttering at all.

GF has identical system except shes using XP and a 7900GT and shes maxed as well even in beta.

I have 64bit ultimate vista with E8400, 8gb ram, 8800GTS G92 card, and everything runs as smooth as butter on my 22" Samsung LCD. When I get 2-3 windowed versions open, there are obvious slowdowns of course...other then that, 120+ FPS constantly, with everything jacked all of the way up.

Welcome to the Uber Thread.

I would say you'd wanna dual spec Resto/Balance. Less swapping/worrying about gear that way.

We tried running Kara last night, but we couldn't get a full 10-man (but we did find a poor warlock who joined the group and then began begging for 35g to respec).

So instead we ran Magister's Terrace with our normal group: Hunter (me), Warlock, Resto Druid and tank druid. (Usually we have another dps from the tank druid's guild, but no one was on until halfway through)

Initially, we tried 4-manning it, but we wiped on the first real pull (the blue globe thing messed us up), so we grabbed a fifth (random ret pally that was lfg).

The rest of the run went fine, except for the warlock dying on the priestess (she aggro'd him immediately and about halfway through the fight he was dead :(). I tried pulling her off and trapping her, but a different mob ran at me and hit the trap, so we just burned the priestess down first, the shaman next and then the rest.

All of the other boss fights were cake. I just find it amazing at how well we've been doing (even with the nerfed dungeons), since we just hit 70 last week (well, all but the tanking druid). But we work together really well, so that definitely makes things a lot easier. And I got the purple hunter chest piece off of the last boss in Magister's Terrace (woot).

We ran Steamvaults afterwards and got locked in the last room (lame). Nothing really good dropped that run, but the pally (all greens 'cept for some HH stuff) did get some nice blues. (Admittedly, it was a rep run, didn't expect gear out of it)

I ran part of Botanica earlier in the day (did 2 full runs on Saturday), and I was doing better dps on trash & first boss than a PVP geared hunter, whose bow did 30dps more than mine (I left after that, let my warlock friend take my place in the dungeon).

I would if I could access those sites right now.

Basically, I recommend that you spec pretty deep into the resto tree but just not take advantage of all of the later talents. You don't need Wild Growth to adequately heal most if not all of the 5 mans and you shouldn't need to get 5/5 of Gift of the Earth Mother for example.

If you can get yourself something like 10-15 points into Balance and put the remaining in Resto then you should be able to do very well from both a 5 man healing and solo leveling perspective. That is what I did in beta and I was able to do 5 mans no sweat and solo all group quests up until Dragonblight.

What's target +spell for dps in ZA?

I was part of a group that more or less stalled on the second boss (bird avatar). Tanking seemed ok, healing too, but there were a couple people saying the DPS was just not enough to be there. I was at about 650 buffed spell damage at that point (I'm at almost 800 now... had a great weekend!) and was near the top of the damage meters. I assume that's low for ZA, but having never been I'm not sure.

Also, is there a standard way to calculate dps? Recount tells me I'm around 600 dps, which sounds low?

You can pick it up on the 13th anytime. The midnight openings are midnight of the 13th.

But if it's possible, anyone on Illidan, could you please send me a recruit-a-friend thing?

Healkin leveling build. Not ideal for dps, but a good overall leveling spec that you can heal or dps effectively in. This build is more tailored around mana regen to decrease downtime, you can go the other way with a more resto centric build but IME healing boomkin spec is much easier then dpsing as a tree. I healed several bear runs in ZA with a smilar spec(2 healers), should easily be enough for any 5 man(this build is built around rejuv as your main heal and as a general rule of thumb it is good to try and overheal, mp5 is crazy with this build at the expense of raw heals).

What's target +spell for dps in ZA?

1K+

Recount or WWS are the standard. Were you using the sound to collapse on the tank for the fight? Akil is a clothie, melee dps tears him up and if you are collapsing away from the tank for storms you are going to seriously cut into the raids dps. 600dps sounds extremely low, particularly considering you were topping the list. How many healers do you have in with you? I know some groups when they start ZA will run with three or more, this greatly increases the demand on the DPS. Also, what are you using for classes for tanking?

Anyway, the reality is geared players don't form groups to get new-70s gear. That's not their purpose. They want an optimal group so they can get it done as fast as possible (no wipes, rebuffs, downtime, etc.)... unless one of them actually knows you. It's just bad timing these days. Actually most have been badge runs since what... 4-6 months ago? You need to look to your own guild to help you out in this department.

so the badges will be useless come this thursday?

i havent read anything about WoTLK yet so forgive my ignorance

also to create a death knight do i need to purge one of my lvl 70?

purge a level 70?
huh.. no you just need an empty char slot.
badges will still be there its just that the gear in Northend will far surpass it around level 75.

T6 by level 78-9 will be meh..

Outland will be deserted except for the endless stream of level 58-70 DKs

the current badges will only be available to buy the currently available badge gear - there are going to be several different types of badges available in WOTLK dungeons

Quote from: Ghostcrawler (Source)We recently changed the way defensive stance works for pets. In the old design, the pet would not attack a target that you were attacking until it did something to generate threat - typically attacking you. In the new design, as soon as you attack a target, the pet will attack the target too. Our thinking was that this made defensive a little easier to use and you still have passive to override that behavior.

I like this change. That is one less click to send in my pet.

Mark - start shooting, then pet also attacks.

Old way, mark, send pet, then start shooting. boo....
