eyefinity currently is a guarenteed CTD in BC2, they broke it sometime ago because it worked at launch :(

That's a major bummer. The implementation of eyefinity in the game seems pretty solid overall and it's pretty slick to be able to see such a wide swath of the battlefield in MP. I hope they can fix it or at least be sure to get it right in BF3.

Does AA not work properly in this game? I'm playing at 1680 x 1050 with 16AF and 8x AA and it's still quite jagged, especially fences and power lines. Only the gun and soldiers seem to be smooth.

only few objects in the game get the AA treatment. stuff like power lines don't get AA.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this game so I can play the damn thing?! I can stay on a server for a maximum of 2 or 3 minutes before I get disconnected.

"You have been disconnected, check your network settings" or something like that.

I've already added an exception to my DEP for the game, manually updated PB...

RavenSeal - unfortunately, it's the cpu plain and simple.
I know you know that, and it really is pretty surprising certain games require a quad. Have you tried vietnam? It's much more playable on a dual.

This is with my e8400@3.3 and my GTX460@800/1000.

1680x1050/medium/1xAA/4xAF/HBAO off
Min Max Avg
31 53 42.017

1680x1050/high/4xAA/8xAF/HBAO on
Min Max Avg
32 56 42.75

1920x1080/high/4xAA/16xAF/HBAO on
Min Max Avg
34 55 42.767

I ran these two times, because I couldn't believe the results. I figured it was user error. Apparently it wasn't. This is all on the same level, same server, within a 5-minute span. You can see I'm completely CPU-limited.

Now, just because the above results are so hard to believe, here are some more examples on a different level/server.

1280x720/1xAA/4xAF/medium/HBAO off
Min Max Avg
31 55 43.733

1680x1050/1xAA/4xAF/medium/HBAO off
Min Max Avg
34 68 46.233 (yes, higher than at 1280)

1920x1200/8xAA/16xAF/high/HBAO on
Min Max Avg
26 57 37.183

user error bra

A new article on TechReport makes clear that this was definitely not a case of user error. Using a GTX460 at 1680x1050/1xAA/4xAF, they achieved 43fps on a Phenom II X2 (the closest thing to a C2D), and 82fps on an i7-760: http://techreport.com/articles.x/20486/5.

My own testing confirms that 42-43fps is more or less the limit for any stock-clocked C2Ds, and overclocking likely improves the situation only slightly. Interestingly, the i3/i5 dual cores perform much better.

Kind of sad, my GPU is being 60% bottlenecked by the E8500 on BC2.

Can barely keep 30fps stable @ 720p, which means i might as well have kept my PS3 version of the game, which plays a lot better.

Try restarting your router. That worked for me.

With the below listed rig, I run BBC2 at 1920x1200 with no problems at all. I do run 'GameBooster' just before playing...

unless you state otherwise, "no problems at all" tells us nothing other than that you might be able to tolerate 30fps averages

and even if you still somehow manage to perform at an elite level with such limiting hardware, that doesn't mean you wouldn't be even better with a rig that could net you no less than 60fps.

anything up w/ ea's updating setup? had a computer issue and had to use an image that was from november 2010 (not a big deal since this is a just a gaming rig, so no lost data for the most part :)), but now when i go to update, it gets about 95% done, then says i have an isp connection area - not the case as my connection is solid and i am d/l @ 1.5-2.5MB/s up until that point.

anybody know where i can d/l a full patch that goes from ver 553292 to 602574? i have tried 10x already and always stopping at the same spot...

Anyone having crashing issues lately? I have not played for a few weeks but tonight I tried and after anywhere from 15 - 45 min my PC locks up with a looping sound and stays that way until I hard reset. I dropped my CPU down to stock and upped the fan speed on my 6970 so that I never went above 80c load (normal is 89-90c) and I still crashed. I'm somewhat confused what the problem is, even new vegas is more stable than this as that only crashes every few hours.

I had that happen quite a bit when my Ati drivers were crashing. Same looping sound. Have you let it go for a minute or two? The Ati driver may eventually reset, which will bring you back to the desktop. Besides the CPU overclock, make sure your memory is at default timings and voltage (1.5v?).

By the way, 90C is very high for an HD6970, isn't it? Link: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4209/amds-radeon-hd-6990-the-new-single-card-king/18

Found the answer to my problem here, it's apparently PB not getting along with GPU monitoring software.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=31425564&posted=1#post31425564

As for the temp yes, 90c is high, but not outside of "norms" for a poorly cooled case. My P180 does not do a good job of feeding this hot card enough air so I will be upgrading cases come summer. It's about time anyway as I have one of the original P180's from MANY moons ago.

Yeah, DUH, sorry...

Just ran FRAPS...
Settings:
1920x1200 / details- medium / AA- 2x / Anisotr- 4x
on Atacama/ship...lots of action...full 32 server
frapslog- 53fps

Decent number for a 775/Core 2 duo E8400 at 3.0 stock?

Good to know - I haven't fired it up in a few weeks, and I run MSI AB for my overclock, so this sounds pretty frustrating. At least I'll know what happens when my system hangs right out of the gate. Huge bummer - CCC strips my OC to shreds.

That's decent for your CPU (in fact, it's a bit high, frankly), but I can assure you that you could run high, 4xAA, 16xAF and get exactly the same FPS, because you're completely CPU-bottlenecked. You'd be hitting well above 80fps with your HD5870 at medium/2xAA if you had a quad, and 60fps at high/4xAA/16xAF. But yes, 53fps is playable, so if you're liking it, your system is working out for you.

damn you PB

does CPU-Z get in the way?

Oh, man, I logged on last night to see what all the fuss was about, and I ran into all sorts of problems. At the end of my first round, I CTD'd, which I've never done before. Then in my second round I started getting big drops in FPS for a second or two at a time (which I had seen previously but had more or less corrected). Then I had the weirdest problem of all - my sound completely shut off, other than the bass channel. Seemed like a hardware failure, but I booted up iTunes in the background to check that I hadn't blown out my sound hardware, and sure enough, the music came out loud and clear.

All that, and I couldn't shoot to save my life. I gave up and left the game.

Was it punkbuster, or was it Catalyst 11.2? I'll have to figure it out another time. I'll start by running without Afterburner, which will be a sad day for my 5850.

Guys,

I've been playing BC2 since it was released a year ago. Never had any issues whatsoever and had a couple of hardware changes as well (CPU & GPU). No issues at all.

However, today, for the very first time, I was playing Vietnam for about an hour when the game suddenly crashed to the desktop (CTD)!

At first, I thought I was "kicked" from the server and went "WTF"! I restarted the game and tried to join the same server, got to the loading screen and then again crashed to desktop! Then, I tried to join a different server, same thing. I got really worried so I restarted my computer and everything seems to be fine so far however I have no idea why the game suddenly CTD'd.

Here is the crashreport.xml:

Does anyone else have this CTD issue? And, what can you make of the xml file above? I have been running BC2 on the very highest of settings for months on end with no glitch or hiccup at all. I am dismayed that this CTD is happening but hopefully someone can help me figure it out.
