1680x1050 should be no problem for you as that is what i play w/ just a e2160 @ 3GHz and a 4850 (cpu is maxed, gpu is ~50%) w/ med settings, but dx9 though

Does anyone with a 5xxx or 6xxx series graphics card have MLAA working with Bad Company? Does it look better?

I'm finally starting to get the hang of things. It took me a real long time to rank up the first couple times, but after I learned how to play medic it's picked up. Why is it so much fun tossing medkits and reviving dead teammates? I'm having fun with the game. It isn't perfect, but so much better than call of duty(though it's very different, and cod does have some appeal)

Glad you're getting into and enjoying it. It's an extremely fun fps. Especially once you unlock everything. The first 10-15 ranks are definitely challenging as you're usually dealing with players with much more experience and know these maps fluently. Medic is a great class to begin with as you maximize your points for each round. I find the medic and engi classes to be the most fun and rewarding. Nothing like getting that double kill 5 minutes after dropping a mine field for a lucky tank to find.

How do AT mines work?

Do they stay after i die?

Do they stay after i die and switch classes?

Is there any way to tell a friendly mine without stepping or driving over it first?

Good question! I don't think so, but I'd love to be able to tell. You can always shoot them, and if it says "watch out, enemy mines," you know you're doing your team a favor. Otherwise, you're undoing the work of your teammates and should probably not shoot anymore!

By the way, you can only have five mines on the ground at once (getting ammo resupply and laying more will remove others). Also, I believe there's some kind of time limit on how long they stay on screen.

Edit - bunnyfubbles has more detailed info.

How do AT mines work?
they're more like anti-vehicle minds period than anti-tank, I've died plenty of times driving a boat over an AT mine that was thrown into a river, and just the other day I died in a chopper after hovering too low over water where there was a hidden AT mine

infantry won't set them off by stepping on them, however an explosive like a grenade or direct gun fire can set them off and they will kill any infantry within a decent sized blast radius

basically they're more like vehicle proximity mines, get close enough to an AT mine in any vehicle and they will blow

they will destroy any vehicle and anyone inside instantly with just one except for a fully healthy tank, which is why you might often see mines placed in pairs.

Do they stay after i die?
yes, you can place up to 6 mines and they will all stay where you put them until they are blown up or you replace them with newly laid mines (ie the 7th and 8th mines you throw down will respectively replace the 1st and 2nd mines you placed)

Do they stay after i die and switch classes?
Yes. An old tactic of mine is to go engineer with extra explosive and explosive damage perk, throw down the tank mines and then either suicide or go suicidal and switch to a different loadout or class all together.

Is there any way to tell a friendly mine without stepping or driving over it first?
Try spamming your spot key (default 'Q'), if you hear something along the lines of "Enemy tank mines" you'll have your answer.

Otherwise I try not to risk it.

New BFBC2 Server released:

R30 is now ready for admins to install via the control panel. This also brings a new option to turn off the Queue system for full servers, it also disables VIP reserved slots BUT this helps with the random crashing issue a lot of you have had.

Dice will not be implementing a further fix as they have found the reserved slots and queue system to be the fault so the easy fix is to disable it.

It is on by default but you will see the new option in the config editor for serveroptions.ini and can set the value to 0 from there, a restart will be needed for it to kick in.

Next week we expect to force the patch on the request of Dice but you can install it early.

changelog:

· Some vehicles on Operation Hastings, Panama Canal CQ, White Pass CQ and Laguna Presa CQ did not get destroyed when left unattended. This has been corrected.
· Servers send player stats to the master servers less often (this reduces load slightly on the stats database)
· Fixed a major memory leak
· More protection against bogus data being sent from game clients

fancy.

nice to see they are starting to stop fixing things in BC2

but we all knew it was a stop gap for BF3 so I am not surprised.

Is there an Official Anandtech Server?

I believe one of the members admins a set called free beer and hotwings thats out near the east coast.

There were two unoffical Anandtech servers, but both have since been taken down, due to the cost of running them and low player counts, I believe.

yup. RIP the tugboat hut!

I will have some pictures for you by this weekend btw buddy :D

When the AT mines go off, they set off the ones near them too. I once shot a mine only to die as it set of a chain of mines that ended near where I was.
