Does the game autoupdate or is it like BF2 where you manually patch it? Curiuos as I see you guys talking about changes.

By default, the game shortcut points to an updater program that checks for new versions and if it finds one, asks you if you would like to install it. This is for non-Steam versions.

A lot of times people create their own shortcuts that point to the actual game, therefore they may miss updates and end up asking why they can't find any servers any more...

Going by the fact that I played BF2 off and on from release in 05 till now, I don't think I'd want another battlefield game too soon.

so you've all heard about BF3 beta yet?
http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/110/1109659p1.html
PC guys are pissed off it's coming to consoles!

Holy shit I didn't think a beta would be out this soon. I love BC2 but always viewed it as a stepping stone to what I hope is going to be an epic game. Can't wait to see the new iteration of Frostbite.

Edit : Oh wait, it's contingent on the beta coming out within a year from release. Oh well, that's about in line with expectations.

CarbonFire has not yet edited his TurretFix (sensitivity) instructions after the patch. But if you read the two posts below and can successfully make the right changes, it works pretty good:

Here is the original: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showpost.php?p=14384268&postcount=238

Here are some revised settings he discussed with another player: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showpost.php?p=15562256&postcount=117

The turret still doesn't spin all the way around for me without lifting the mouse a few times, but it's better than I had it before. (can you also add keyboard short cuts for spinning the turret in each direction?)

If you try it, let us know if it does or doesn't work for you, or any tweaks that improve it for you. Thanks.

I just wanted to note that you CAN assign a key for Turret Left and Turret Right. And it spins a maximum speed! Faster than with the mouse.

New Battlefield Blog Post: Battlefield 3 Beta Added to Medal of Honor Limited Edition

Battlefield 3 Beta Added to Medal of Honor Limited Edition

* BY: matthewpruitt
* POSTED : Jul 30, 2010, 02:15PM

Electronic Arts Inc. today revealed new details of the Medal of Honor Limited Edition that will be released in North America on October 12, 2010. The Limited Edition* features a host of weapons, powerful ammunition and camouflage. The weapons and camouflage give players a tactical gameplay advantage on day one. EA also announced today that people who own the Medal of Honor Limited Edition will receive an invitation to the beta** for another highly-anticipated EA shooter, Battlefield 3™. Battlefield 3 is the latest entry in the award-winning shooter franchise from DICE in Stockholm, Sweden.

This Sunday August 1, be sure to check out a 100% all-new Medal of Honor gameplay trailer directed by Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn. The trailer will feature in-game footage set to the band’s recently-announced single ‘The Catalyst’ at www.medalofhonor.com/linkinpark. More details about the Battlefield 3 beta itself can also be found at www.medalofhonor.com/battlefield3.

Medal of Honor Limited Edition also features special content out-of-the-box including the MP-7, a weapon utilized by real-world Tier 1 Operators in the field. With its light weight, high rate of fire as well as its ability to penetrate body armor, the MP-7 handles like a pistol yet allows targets to be engaged like a rifle. The Limited Edition also includes two powerful shotguns with custom slugs. These devastating shotguns and ammunition are ideal for close-range fights.

* The PlayStation 3 version of the Limited Edition also includes the classic, Medal of Honor Frontline™ completely remastered in HD. **Restrictions and conditions apply to Beta offer. See http://www.ea.com/beta for details.

The weakest moment in BFBC2 history:

I was defending on Isla Innocentes on a clan server and having a stellar match. We had them down to 2 tickets. I was top scorer and about to get another Ace pin. The guy right beneath me on the scoreboard was a clan member with 0 ping. With 2 tickets left, I get kicked from the server "to make room for a clan member." I think that's worse than using a hack. Total fail.

PS - Clan ADA - avoid their server.

I've set up a somewhat different Bad Company 2 Server, if any of you want to try it out.
It's a 16 player server, setup up to play ALL of the Conquest, Rush, and Squad Deathmatch maps.

I call it "Maximum Variety". It's alternating Conquest (1 round, and Rush (2 rounds, attack/defend), with a Squad Deathmatch map thrown in every 4th map.

In addition, I have turned on friendly fire, because that's just the the way I think it should be played. One of the reasons people don't like to turn this on is because it causes your server to look like it's Hardcore. But, everything else on this server is set at default ("core").
Hopefully, this being on will affect some of the standard strategies people have been using in Rush, ie, mortaring or lobbing grenades or Gustavs in to the Mcoms where several of your team mates are guarding it.
And maybe tank drivers will learn to sit still in their tank while it's being repaired, or they won't be repaired.

Anyway, here is the server info

Search for "GFC" in the serve name filter, and make sure Hardcore servers are not filtered out.

Feel free to use our TeamSpeak 3 Server at 64.34.171.212:9996

This servers tag line is: IN WAR THERE ARE NO RULES! If it's in the game, it's fair game. Adapt, overcome, or GTFO!

I like that tag line

I'm still getting used to the game after 5 years of BF2, but this game is a lot of fun.

Is it just me though or is the audio a bit lacking? Of course it could be my onboard audio though. I did change the setting to wartapes but it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

I think it's you... Most people agree that the sound in BFBC2 is awesome! Although, the PC sound is actually at a lower quality compared to the consoles.

Sounds like a great idea. It can't hurt to set a date. The night we decided on for the Tugboat was Friday, so lets go with that. I'll see about setting an alert in the Steam group.

BTW, the server is in Dallas, so hopefully the connection will be good for most of us, like the Tugboat was.

As you know, once a server has a few people on it, it can fill up rather quickly. If you find it is full and you want to get on, queue yourself up, then contact me via Steam, or get on the TeamSpeak server. I will bump people I don't recognize, and Zargon's BFBC2 Callsign thread will be my reference.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Maybe its time to upgrade to a decent sound card then.

I think I'll try to join up for the next match. Just posted my name on the Zargon thread

Anyone play Whitepass Rush yet? I have a love/hate feeling about it thus far. I love it because its a smaller Rush map (only 3 sets of MCOMs), has no vehicles, and is in a very wooded area with lots of buildings providing a lot of cover for making flanking runs on enemy positions. So it feels a lot like Nelson Bay which is easily one of my favorite Rush maps.

What I hate about it is the incredibly stupid placement of MCOMs on the 2nd and 3rd set of points. If the defenders allow the attackers to make it past the first set of MCOMs, the rest of the MCOMs can be destroyed with Destruction 2.0 (ie destroying the buildings they are in). Sure, 3 of the 6 MCOMs on Nelson Bay can be destroyed with Destruction 2.0, but 2 of those buildings are much harder to bring down. On Whitepass, 3 of the buildings can be each be destroyed with just three well-placed C4s - those 2 story houses are just way too easy to bring down, its a joke, I don't know why they even bothered. I can usually sneak in thanks to all the thick cover of trees/shrubs/houses and destroy all the buildings on my own.

Are you using speakers or headphones? If so, what kind?

I've always used a decent set of stereo headphones (and then use CMSS-3D on my X-Fi sound card to simulate 5.1 surround) and the game sounds great. Whenever I've had to play on a backup rig of mine with onboard audio, I've used the same headphones and stereo and the game sounded fine, but this was after I fixed an obvious problem:

When I first tried to play the game on the backup rig with onboard audio and 2.0 headphones, the sound was obviously messed up to the point where it was just too annoying I had to figure out what was wrong. It turned out the game was trying to run in 6 channels which explained why I would only hear certain sounds (such as gunfire) from the left channel, etc... Once I forced this setting manually to 2 channels from 6, it sounded like it should. Not as immersive or crisp as on my X-Fi + CMSS-3D but it was serviceable.

The sound settings in-game (such as Wartapes) really only have to do with quality (which is opinion as Wartapes adds a lot of extraneous background noise that has nothing to do with whats actually going on in game), not how many channels, make sure you set that up properly in the settings.ini file or it might not sound right.

I'm playing with speakers, Creative 2.1, but forgot the model number.

I'll be sure to take a look at the sound settings to see if it's the channel issue you described.

just don't use war tapes. i'm using home cinema on my 5.1 setup and it sounds fine.

also, check what sound quality is in your ini file. it might be set to low. replace low with medium or even high and see how it is.

I absolutely HATE White Pass rush. Did trained fucking monkeys decide on those M-COM placements?? I've never seen the defenders win, not once yet on that map. A couple C-4 and some mortar strikes and it's like instant win.

I hope they fix that map soon, cuz when it comes on, I just move to a different server.

Yeah, it was on low. I also changed the speakercount from 0 to 3. You would think more of these settings would be adjustable in the regular menu system, not have to be manually done, especially for a AAA title

I've won it as defenders maybe 10 times that I can recall, and all but 1 of those were defenses that stopped the attackers at the first set. But if they get past that first set its pretty much guaranteed they'll win the rest. The one time my and I happened to stop them after the first set was when the attackers were full of extremely aggressive nubs that were aggressive enough to overwhelm the first set but too aggressive on the 2nd set that they lost tickets at a fast enough rate that they couldn't switch gears and bring down the houses fast enough.

Maybe the design was intentional in that every other Rush map heavily favors the defenders so they decided to introduce one that the attackers will likely win 9 times out of 10 instead of the other way around where its usually the defense that always wins.

Thanks for the tips guys, I edited the .ini file and it sounds 10x better
Care to share what it was you edited, I'm curious.

cool. was it set on low? i think mine defaulted to low when i first installed the game so i bumped it up to medium.
IIRC the default is medium. I'm not quite sure why they designed the settings they way they did, they really really dumbed the in-game options down so much that I still don't quite know what they mean.

I think they're various combinations of sound channels and sound quality, as I thought I read somewhere that setting the quality to high in the ini file equates to selecting wartapes. The higher the quality the more CPU power the game will consume. The game is supposed to auto configure your speaker count, but I think the default is actually 6 channels, as I had the problem on my backup rig having messed up sound as it did not properly detect my 2.0 channel setup.

i leave it on 0. 0 means auto detect. it auto detects my 5.1 setup just fine.
i'm pretty sure mine automatically set audio to low by itself when i first installed the game. i don't know how they make that choice, because i have decent CPU and all the audio rendering is done on 1 core in this game. plus i have an x-fi card even though this game doesn't take advantage of hardware audio.

oh and the reason for all these settings now showing up in options, it's because even the settings have become consolized... i mean it even says "home cinema" for 5.1 setup... obvious TV setting for consoles.
