I'm not playing that game anymore and I'm thinking of selling it or trade it in (not sure if I can trade in the PC game). Do I have to deactivate the cd-key before selling it? I think it's currently tied to my EA account. I do have the DVD.

you can't. the game is tied to your account for good. if you give it away, u also have to give away your login/password to your account.

So you are only allowed one username per serial key? I wanted to start over but I guess it's not possible.

Not true. After you log in to your EA account, you get a dialog to pick your soldier name. On that dialog is a Create option. I have two soldiers defined, with separate stats. I suspect the limit is four soldiers, because that's what I heard the limit was in BF2142 (plus look at the screen, it looks like it will show 4 perfectly...).

Whoa? Wow, so no one in this thread has managed to sell the PC version of this game?

That's why the PC version does not require VIP codes for free "map packs". Once you register it on your EA account, it's yours for good.

New Battlefield Blog Post: Wednesday Frag Night with DICE

* BY: zh1nt0
* POSTED : Jul 26, 2010, 08:46AM

If there was an opportunity for you to knife the developers of Bad Company 2, you wouldn't resist right? Imagine having DICE dogtags in your collection. At least five of them.

Well, now is your chance. Go ahead and make it happen. The Game with Dev event is now coming to PC and we are bringing five DICE -players with us. Always wanted to knife Demize99? How about blowing Bazajaytee up with a Carl Gustav? Epic roadkill on zh1nt0?

Other players are Romeo DICE (special guest) and Stormonster.

The time of this event will be Wednesday the 28th of July 18:00 - 22:00 CEST.

Servers will be announced as soon as the event starts. This is to make sure everyone has a chance to jump on the servers as soon as we start.

In order to see where we are playing, check out our twitter channels:

www.twitter.com/demize99

www.twitter.com/Bazajaytee
www.twitter.com/zh1nt0

So, take some time off work, leave the children with someone else, say goodbye to your significant other because this Wednesday is going to be awesome.

Should I take this as a reminder whenever I buy an EA PC game in the future? If I don't intend to play for the long run, I shouldn't buy it cuz I won't be able to sell it?

So I'm still relatively to BC2 only been playing for a few weeks, but does anyone else not like how on Rush when your attacking, you destroy the 2 m-coms and advance and yet the opposing team can just hang out in your base no problem. I don't mean right away but for like 4-5 minutes afterwards. I mean I realize some servers are strict on spawn campers, but most don't care. It's annoying at best, and super lame at worst trying to find that lone sniper or medic that hangs back in your base.

FYI: There was some sort of EA server outage this morning, and now people on Twitter are complaining that all VIP content is missing. I don't know if the PC version of BFBC2 is affected.

Another interview with the Battlefield Community Manager at EuroGamers.com

zh1nto Interview - Part 1

zh1nto, the BattleField Community Manager at Dice, has been kind enough to do a very extensive and in-depth interview with us. Our questions for him were geared at achieving two things:

1. An understanding of what zh1nt0's job is, so we as the community know what he can - and cannot - do for us within Dice.
2. Getting a better insight into what zh1nt0 plans for our community.

Below is part 1 of the interview, part 2 will be published tomorrow, Wednesday July 28th:

----

EuroGamers.eu: You mentioned in the comment you posted here some details of what your job as Community Manager is. Many in the community are unclear on what your actual role is, so can you expand on that so we know what your job entails and, perhaps just as importantly, what it doesn't.
...

yeah its pretty lame, I understand when you just lost and you hang out till you get popped, but some people constantly respawn and run back in, pretty lame

R18 servers coming - Electronic Arts UK Community

R18 is announce already and release as soon as possible R18 is being released as an emergency patch to fix the problem, with the new xml file crashing the server if it 404's.
As soon as we have the patch I will auto roll it out.
this does mean any new map packs will be done via command line edit until the issue is fixed.

==================================================

So, who else is NOT playing StarCraft 2 tonight? :)

Dude, same here. I took a short hiatus to learn l4d2 vs. but I'm back. Currently, I'm looking to get the marksmen awards so I have become a moderate gol whore. It will be nice to finally finish recon. :hmm:

i'd play starcraft if it was a fps game :awe:

I'll play Starcraft when it hits $30.

In the meantime I'm working on all bronze stars for my weapons. Progress is OK. Certain weapons are harder than others. Like the Uzi and XM8 LMG. Definitely not great weapons, even with magnum ammo.

the m24 reloads a lil faster if you dont empty the whole mag....

breaking down the bolt action sniper rifles:

Max damage on every bolt action rifle is 100 damage up to 10 meters before dropping off.

The base damage (or minimum damage) at range for the M24, SV98, and GOL is 50 damage, and the distance where this occurs is somewhere around 64 meters. So when we consider the head-shot multiplier for these three rifles is 3.25x (that would mean a headshot at ranges 64+ meters would do 162.5 damage), you'll kill anyone with a head-shot regardless of range or armor, no magnum ammo needed.

The M95 is a bit different with its base damage which is 55 as opposed to 50, and the drop off to that base damage occurs at the same rate and distances. Its headshot multiplier is only 2.3, but still, 55 x 2.3 = 126.5, still more than enough to kill a 100% healthy enemy who is wearing body armor, and again, this is without using magnum ammo

Now when we consider that magnum ammo increases all bullet damage by 25%, that would mean the max damage is increased to 125 damage up to 10 meters before dropping off to its new base damages of 62.5 (for the M24/SV98/GOL) and 68.75. Any engagements within that range would only make a difference on armored players, because that is obviously overkill, however the bonus comes when the damage starts to drop off.

Since the drop off in damage is linear from 10 meters (max damage) to ~36meters, that means the effective one-shot (anywhere, not just the head) kill range for your average target (since most players won't be wearing armor) extends out to roughly 20 meters. The M95's one-shot kill range is a meter or two larger, but basically insignificant.

So thus far the damages of all the bolt actions are almost identical? So how are they different? Is it the hip spread? No, they're all identical when firing from the hip (relatively inaccurate with a value of 7.0 still or moving, compare that to the LMGs @ 2.5 when still and 4.0 when moving).

What about recoil? Well the M24, GOL, and M95 are all indentical with AMPs of 0.25 and KICKS of 30.0, while the SV98 has an AMP of 2.0 and KICK of 30.0. These numbers are relatively meaningless though as recoil really only matters for automatic weapons, these bolt actions will have just about perfect precision when scoped in. So again, we still have 4 virtually identical weapons...

What about reload times? This is where we finally start to see some significant variation in weapon handling: (ADD is the time it takes for the ammo count to change, and TIME is the time it takes for the reload animation to complete)

M24: ADD 2.8 seconds, TIME 5.0 seconds
SV98: ADD 2.55 seconds, TIME 4.8 seconds
GOL: ADD 3.2 seconds, TIME 4.8 seconds
M95: ADD 4.623 seconds, TIME 6.9 seconds

So while the first 3 bolt actions are virtually identical, we see that the M95 has a significantly slower reload time. This makes it less ideal for use as an offensive weapon where the reload time when in hot enemy territory could be the difference in life or death. On the flip side the SV98 is the fastest reloading (particularly if you know how to circumvent the reload animation) which makes it better for use as an offensive assault type sniper weapon.

Next up is rate of fire:

M24 = 36 rounds per minute
SV98 = 37 rounds per minute
GOL = 33 rounds per minute
M95 = 26 rounds per minute

Again we can start to see some differentiation. Much like with reload time, the faster ROF on the SV98 tilts it more towards an offensive weapon whereas the slower reload time of the M95 is more of a defensive weapon.

The last differences are the most obvious when looked for: magazine/ammo capacity and scope sights:

the M24, GOL, and M95 all have 5 rounds per mag with a base reserve of 20 rounds. The SV98 has a magazine of 10 rounds with a base reserve of 20 rounds. Again the SV98 differentiates itself as more of a closer quarters/offense oriented weapon with its superior mag size requiring less reloading in the heat of action.

Then there are the scopes:

The M24 has a relatively typical crosshair with markings that might help in making judgments for bullet drop.

The SV98 has a triangle type crosshair which will probably be looked upon by most as inferior for long distance/marksman shooting. Again we see this weapon begging to have the red dot or 4x scope put on it for closer quarters action.

The GOL has the cleanest / most simple and standard crosshair. No markings on it at all. Whats the advantage? The GOL does not move at all when standing still and scoped in - all the other bolt action snipers will have some "breathing" movement to them requiring compensation.

The M95's crosshair is similar to the M24.

So where does this ultimately leave us? Well at the end of the day, all the bolt action rifles can be played with almost identically and interchangeably with each one having a slight specialty.

Summary:

M24 - the jack of all trades, this bolty is not the worst at any one aspect but its not the best at anything either. If you're not 100% sure about how you're going to end up sniping, this is the weapon to choose.

SV98 - the clear-cut close quarters sniper. The double sized mag, the faster reload time, fastest ROF, and the default sights that encourage use of RDS or 4xACOG all add up to one mean instagibbing machine.

GOL - slower reload times and ROFs plus stable-as-a-rock aiming make this rifle the long distance king.

M95 - thus far this rifle has had stats that make it sound almost completely inferior to all the other bolt actions except for its insignificantly better base damage. So why choose this rifle? For its ability to damage light vehicles, particularly UAVs (which it can take out with just one shot) and helicopters.

Honestly I feel like the M95 is the most underwhelming gun in the game. It's a freaking .50 cal round. It can damage helos, UAV and light vehicles, yet I can shoot a guy in the chest from 150meters, not kill him and he turns around and BOOM HEADSHOT kills me with an Uzi or some crap. I realize the need for balance, but for christ sakes with that gun any hit in the chest/head/neck should be instant kill. Maybe I should play HC more lol.

Gamescom 2010

I have received loads of questions about GamesCom 2010 and the anser is "yes" I am going. With me I'm bringing my laptop and other stuff to record and publish stuff on our Blog. Live videos, interviews, pictures and also interesting stories :)

The Community

Having my position at DICE, I don't just feel that I am a part of this huge company that makes blockbuster shooters, but I also feel that I am a part of the Community, sharing their ideas, expectations and experiences in the game.

I've joined a lot of different teamspeak servers and played a lot of games with the Community and I am always greeted as one of them. I was recently asked about how I felt when browsing the forums and what I think of the Community in general and all I can say is that I have a lot of respect and a lot of love for the BF Community, no matter which game or platform.

What I am missing in the Community though are girl gamers. So if you are a girl gamer or know any female gamers, mix it up! Join the forums, follow my twitter and let's set up an awesome gaming session!

Since this Community is very big and active with a lot of players, there are naturally loads of sites to visit. If you're interested in browsing different forums and different sites, here are a few links. Stop by and say hello :).

www.bf-news.de
German Battlefield Community site

www.badcompany2.se
Swedish Bad Company site

http://badcompany2.com.au/
Austrailian BF Community.

As you all know, the BF scene is spread across many countries. I would like to get to know a lot of people from different parts of the world so keep the questions coming and keep joining the game-events that take place :). Keep joining twitter and the EA UK forums. Also, don't forget to check the official BF Blog for updates.

VIP Map Pack 5 Trailer

Ho Hum, another uneventful trailer. I updated the OP with these map modes. There are 10 actual maps in use. I count 14 remaining un-implemented modes, to have all 4 games modes on each map. So that's 7 more map packs they can release before they have to make anything "new".

Server R19 Released!?

Bazajaytee said:
It isn't a typo, R19 does exist and available on most RSP's world wide.
R18 and R19 are purely to allow Map Pack 5 to be activated today.

So basicly r18 fixed the crashing but they released r19 soon after that to add the new mappack to the servers. After that we can only wait until the mappack is officially released.

==================================================

Part 2 of Battlefield Community Manager interview with EuroGamers.

zh1nt0 Interview - Part 2

Yesterday we published part one of our interview with Dice's BattleField Community Manager, zh1nto. Today is the second part of that interview. The questions were aimed at gleaning a better understanding of the following two points:

1. zh1nt0's role within Dice, what he can, and cannot do, for the community.
2. His plans for the community and what he wants to achieve

Read on for the second part of this interview:

I'm always professing my preference for smaller servers. What do you guys like?
Given the existing maps, what are your favorite server sizes (or player counts)?

16? 24? 32? Wish for more?

==================================================

With the limited maps in BFBC2, I try to squeeze as much variety out of the game as possible. I always thought that if I had control of a 16 player server, I could put all of the Rush, Conquest, AND SQUAD DEATHMATCH maps in one huge rotation (assuming a tool like ProCon could do it).

Do you think everone would evacuate the server if it went from Rush to Squad Deathmatch? Would you leave?

Thanks!

I bought this game months ago and I played it for a little while, then it got forgotten. Has the knife been fixed? Have the OP weapons been nerfed? (M60, CG?)
