i shudder at the thought of DICE patches. while they may fix some things, they usually break a whole new set of stuff.

I think you get 6 unlocks off the bat.

lol @ the comments above but that's cool. What sucks is that I thought we would get the unlocks for preordering right away but I'll probably earn them already by the time the game comes out.

Overhead pictures of some of the new maps on Planet Battlefield, including some views showing the locations of Crates in Rush, or Flags in Conquest. Interestingly, I'm not seeing any indication of different map sizes for different numbers of players, ala BF2.

It plays real well. I'm @ 1920x1080 and it's smooth. I played at 8xAA but got slowdowns when things exploded around me when there was lots of smoke/dust so went down to 4xAA and it's plays well.

do you know if you were cpu or gpu limited? assuming gpu but the 5870 is a killer card...sounds like you have more than enough cpu too....what os?

Vista 64

There's a discussion going on in the Video Card forum about how cpu bound this game is. Since it's the Beta and they said they are still going to add functionality and optimizations to the game, people are arguing about it over there. Supposedly it doesn't stress 2 cores correctly but that's for those people to argue about. I didn't get any FPS increase when I went from 3.4GHz to 3.53 but that's such a small bump I doubt it'd register at all but since I could easily tell the difference between 8xAA and 4xAA performance that says it's probably more GPU bound.

Here's some benchmarks that someone did in that thread:

First: it's been said a bunch of times that this is an old client we're working with here AND that the high res textures aren't in said client. So trying to judge performance and what have you at this point isn't really worth your time. Do yourself a favor and wait until launch.

Second: let's rent a server. If we get it from Gameservers it's ~$40/mo for a 32 slot server. If we have eight to ten people donate a few bucks a month (for admin rights, natch) we could keep it up and running. Who would be down for that - apart from me?
