wow i'm shocked godless has something positive to say. especially for a game i didn't find particularly too impressive. and i'm a huge BF fan. maybe my expectations were too high.
Scroll up for my whiney comments :p I didn't have any expectations coming into this game. I played a lot of BF1942 back in the day but haven't played a BF game since the BF2 beta failed to impress me.

I have to say, the audio and graphics are both extremely good in my opinion. Some of the audio levels are a bit off but in general it's very, very good, maybe even the best I've seen. I'd give the game a 9.5/10 for graphics and 9/10 for audio (which could easily be a 10/10 if they fix a few level issues). The graphics are also due to improve at release because apparently we don't have access to the top quality textures in the beta.

Agreed. I don't know why there are so many complaints about the graphics. Yes, they're un-optimized and a bit rough around the edges but it's a beta for God's sake.

i love the graphics more after jumping into a quick game in MW2 last night which looks like a cartoon instead of a war game compared to the beta imo.

I have had zero problems but it does look like Dice wants to actually make this game work and support the pc community. A lot of the complaints could be due to the fact that its a beta and a lot of people dont grasp that idea but as much as there is bugs Dice does respond to the problems more specifically in this thread:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1127121

So most the problems that are actual problems seem like they will be fixed at launch. Some things like prone they have said to let it go that its not happening which I agree with this game. Its hard enough to hit snipers on top of the rock mountain if there was prone life would be much harder.

So stop crying about a beta and stop hurting your own community by buying non PC games like MW2 and bitching about true PC games like BC2 then we could put a stop to post threads called "why developers dont care about PC users"

Finally got to play last night and was very impressed. The graphics look really good, though I could see some rough edges that I hope are smoothed out on release.

I really like the bullet drop as it makes sniping a lot more challenging, and way more satisfying when you pull off a running head shot (though it did take me a while to adjust from my TF2 experience). I've noticed points for head shots seem to be based on how far away you are from the target, 10 pts for close range, 30 for long range. Does anyone know if you can get higher than 30 on an extreme long range shot?

I REALLY like the knife attack. Knifing people is so much easier now that you don't have to commit to using the knife over another weapon. Sneaking up on someone with a machine gun in hand ready to head shot them if they turn around is a lot more comforting than trying to run up with just a knife and knowing you're going to get smoked if they hear you. I had 30-40 knife kills in half a dozen games last night, when that probably would have taken me a week to get in any other BF game.

Not tested yet, but I have seen people today claiming if you run the game exe as Administrator, it works.

Edit: Confirmed! I have Win 7 x64, if I right click the BFBC2Game.exe file and tell it to run as Administrator, when I bring up the server list, it has the LAT(ency) column filled in!

yea i tried running as admin and i also got ping to show up... odd. they should make it display regardless though.

How about level sizes? The battlefield seems to be in a confined space, even with the level extends to its largest 'length' after destroying those computer things. Choppers seem pretty limited to a confined space. I hope thats not a 'large' map.

I dunno about this game.. It's not call of duty and I don't care for another "5 second life" game.

No it's definitely small. Everything was designed on console's so the maps are small and the most they could fit was 32. It's definitely not like BF2/2142 with the huge maps.

Conquest maps will probably be larger and have a more open flow.

Quote from Gamespot's hands on:

Our demo took place across Dice's local network, which allowed us to experience the PC's 32 player limit, which is six players more than the consoles' 24 player count. The six extra players may not sound like a huge increase, especially when compared to previous Battlefield games which have had 64 player counts, but according to Bach, this is due to map sizes. The maps in Bad Company 2 are built for cross-platform use, and because the console player count is traditionally smaller than on PC, the maps have to be built to fit.

I just pre-ordered it. It was between this or AvP and I played the demo for AvP and it sucked so this got my money. Been playing the Beta and it's fun so now off to Steam to re-download the game and play it through there.

im sure they will work on it

anyone else think its funny that gamespot cant do math?

32-24=6 now?

I'll bet Port Valdez gets a bunch of those little boats and jet ski's in Conquest...

lets hope so, and hopfully that upper cliff area gets expanded a bit. so you can run around more, sure I guess it promotes camping, but it also promotes more ground to cover.

Please tell me they'll add the ability to sort servers later on via ping.. And I do miss prone :(

Yea it sucks not being able to sort through the servers in any way. It feels weird not being able to go prone but it's still immensely fun.

Spotting doesn't work for me at all. It's supposed to be Q like you guys said and in the settings it shows it as issuing commands but nothing comes up.

It's quite sensitive about where the cursor is, especially for enemies who are far away or partially obscured by world objects. Try it on a guy in plain site, it should work fine. I have bound it to a button on my mouse so I can use it while shooting and still have the full range of movement with my left hand, it's a very useful feature that I wish my team would take advantage of more often.
