It's quite sensitive about where the cursor is, especially for enemies who are far away or partially obscured by world objects. Try it on a guy in plain site, it should work fine. I have bound it to a button on my mouse so I can use it while shooting and still have the full range of movement with my left hand, it's a very useful feature that I wish my team would take advantage of more often.

Oh ok it's not like previous BF games where it show up everywhere. I'll try it when I see a guy next time thanks.

Spotting doesn't work for me at all. It's supposed to be Q like you guys said and in the settings it shows it as issuing commands but nothing comes up.

Two items from the PS3 Beta change list:

Added an overheat to spotting to prevent spot and order spamming.
Spotting now requires the player be aiming significantly closer to the target.

You probably experienced the spotting cool-down. I think even if you miss the spot, it counts towards the "heating up". So if you try but miss three spots in a row, it might ignore the fourth when it is "spot-on".

The PC version is confusing for me. It also doesn't run great, even with using that little program at 1920x1200. The PS3 demo just came out, and I played the beta and loved it, and pre-ordered the game on Amazon, so I think I'm sticking with that version.

Better late than never? Amazon.com finally offers PC beta access with BFBC2 purchase. The fine print:

Pre-order Bonus
Pre-order Battlefield: Bad Company 2, for the PC, and gain access to the PC Beta (which runs through February 25, 2010). Access code will be e-mailed within five business days after you place your order. Offer valid when shipped and sold by Amazon.com, while supplies last. Limit one per customer.

Remote Administration interface for BFBC2 PC

* BY: MikaelKalms

Hi again!

A lot of people are asking about server administration. What's up there?

A little background

Since the Frostbite engine had not yet been used for any PC titles, there had been no need for advanced server administration tools. BFBC2 PC changed that however.
There was a sort of "server console" thing, but it was intended for developer use only. Something easier to use and more stable was necessary when we came closer to release it to the PC users.

So what are we doing?
We are creating a separate command console, which is stable, and where the commands will not change. This will be the Remote Administration interface for BFBC2 PC. BF2 console commands have been a good source of inspiration :)
The Remote Administration interface is accessible over a network port on the game server.

While we ensure that there is a solid administration interface, we are not creating any fancy tools. Why not? Because the community will do a much better job! RSPs have already been using the interface for weeks, and several people are working on user friendly tools. We will continue to improve the protocol with functions that are necessary to make good tools.

When Closed Beta Server R5 (yes, we have already patched the game servers 3 times. I love our new patching system) is released, the RSPs will be allowed to expose the Remote Administration interface on their servers to the public... and we will publish the FULL protocol specification. You have my word on that.

Stay tuned.

I've been back and forth on this one in the FAQ. All the vendor descriptions say "8 huge multiplayer maps". One site (IGN) said there would be 16. This may or may not be the same 8 maps, configured differently for Rush or Conquest. Here's another indication that it may actually be 16 different maps!

BFBC2 Fan: " @Kalmalyzer Its really a great game you got here :) May you tell me how many maps we see at launch?"

Kalmalyzer (Lead BFBC2 PC Dev at DICE): "@Remon255 http://bit.ly/9ihfMS - there will be at least 16 new multiplayer maps"

Are rush and conquest the only 2 game modes in this? It would be nice if they brought back CTF, I used to play on a 24/7 berlin CTF server for DC, it was probably the most fun I had with the game.

:awe: That was so much fun! (Unless you were stuck on a Russian team that didn't know how to get out of the spawn area...)

It's in the FAQ:

Multi-player Game Modes
  • Battlefield's classic Conquest
  • Rush (Same as Gold Rush mode from BFBC1, but it's not for gold now) More Info
  • Squad Deathmatch Source, Video.
    • Each squad versus all squads with a max of four squads (16 players total)
    • First squad to 50 kill tickets wins
    • One vehicle: serves as center point as a magnet for action
    • Custom versions of maps used, i.e., Arica Harbor's town section will be used
    • Ranked!
  • Squad Rush Source, Video.
    • Four vs four, eight players total
    • Set on a smaller Rush game mode map
    • One crate per base and there will only be two bases that attackers need to take and the defenders obviously have to defend
    • No vehicles
    • Ranked

I am with you on the CTF. My favorite game mode! I still play CTF in the BF2 DCON mod, at least weekly. Unfortunately, no Berlin map... :( I can post the information later, if you are interested. Warning though, you may get PWN'D!

Yea I finally got it. Have to have the cursor on something to spot it. I'm getting tons of points now for spot assist. Thanks

Well they gota put it into production to make it in time for the retail launch. With the way content is nowadays, all they have to do is setup the patch for day 1.

I would have preferred that they delay the version and polish it up instead of this garbage. I doubt we will even get a patch.

A few minutes ago I saw a tweet about some German site finding the description of 10 levels in the localization files, then I stumble across this on a different BBoard:

PANAMA CANAL

Units in contact are being rotated out as a result of combat fatigue. Weeks of fighting have left the harbor in ruins and the surrounding area littered with destroyed equipment. Armored movement is hampered and deadly kill zones mare the ground. U.S Forces are staging an assault of the industrial port with the objective to seize, retain and exploit the area. Control of the canal will allow larger-scale Strategic Operations along the South West Pacific coast.

VALPARAISO VILLAGE

The American capture of Valparaiso is the next phase in their strategic plan to repel Russian Forces from Chile. Any U.S. invasion will inevitably consist of a land assault through the outlying jungle areas and an amphibious landing of infantry and armored forces along the coast. The U.S objective is the Power Station on the outskirts of the city. If the installation can be captured and services cut off, the liberation of the city will inevitably follow suit.

LAGUNA ALTA

Several days ago a large Russian counter attack overran U.S. Camp "Christopher" and destroyed a supply train carrying vital equipment. U.S Forces are mustering to recapture the area. They are trying to establish a buffer zone near the woodlands so their Battle Group can move unimpeded across the bridge connecting the opposing high ground. Intelligence reports and Recon patrols have exposed a large number of Russian troops and IFVs that have reinforced the camp since the attack occurred.

ISLA INOCENTES

U.S. Forces are desperate to open a supply route for an Armored Battle Group engaged in fighting further inland. A Russian Artillery base controls the area and counters any breakout actions launched. The base is well defended and has been successful in repelling previous attacks. Destruction of the base and control of the woodlands will allow U.S Amphibious Forces to land and open a second front, which is critical in their plan to liberate South America.

ATACAMA DESERT

A Russian Naval Group is preparing a massive amphibious assault. Defending the shore are 3 U.S fortifications and a string of artillery defenses. Should the Russians establish a beachhead and overrun U.S. positions, they will be free to advance further inland. With weather deteriorating and sandstorms approaching, U.S. Command has consolidated all available forces to meet the Russian threat. As a result of the open ground, a large-scale armor battle supported by attack helicopters seems likely.

ARICA HARBOR (ps3 beta map)

Following the results of the armor assault at Atacama, U.S Command insists on a similar action to capture the port of Arica. The assault group will launch a "break through" action directly at the Russian base. If the fight dictates, the Battle Group will cut directly through the town located on the axis of advance. Collateral damage is of no consequence. The Russian base must be destroyed in order to cross the desert and reach the port. Heavy casualties are expected on both sides.

WHITE PASS

As the weather has cleared and snowfall relented, Russian Forces are massing for an assault on White Pass and the satellite relay station located there. The local town has not been attacked, but Russian units have probed defenses in the surrounding woods. The sector has strategic value to U.S Forces as it allows control of inland routes. Should the area fall into Russian hands, a line of advance will present itself directly to Nelson Bay.

NELSON BAY

Winter has hit hard. The river has frozen allowing heavy equipment and personnel to operate throughout the sector. However, the extreme weather and surrounding woods make it unlikely that any assault will consist of heavy armor. Satellite reconnaissance indicates Russian Special Forces and airborne units have been pulled away from South America and are gathering on mass. A nighttime assault is eminent. Nelson Bay harbors an underground U.S submarine base that will be defended at all cost.

LAGUNA PRESA

The valley and surrounding mountains possess a strategic value in the battle for South America. Construction of the nearby Dam was halted when hostilities broke out, but its presence is still a significant factor. Airborne operations are limited but infantry assault supported by light armor vehicles is likely by both armies. U.S Forces are massing all available units to stage a defense and have wired the dam to prevent it from falling into Russian hands.

PORT VALDEZ (pc beta map)

Russian Forces are posed to attack the harbor in an attempt to seize the Trans Alaskan Pipeline. Without regard to arctic conditions, the area has been probed by Russian Pathfinders indicating an airborne assault is planned. U.S interrogation of captured Russian para's revealed that MBT's will be, or have been, airlifted into the area. All armor assets and attack helicopters are being diverted to the sector. No fallback exists for either side. This engagement will decide the outcome of the war.

Lol, why is the PC version confusing?

Too many options for me. Since I can't put settings to max on my PC, I'd have to play around with them which I don't care to do. Another thing is the controls...I do like using a controller for this game, and PC input seemed laggy to me. Plus, I don't play with friends on PC but would more on PS3 probably. I had lots of fun in the PS3 beta.

I agree it's confusing. For those of us that haven't played BF2 the game is puzzling in many ways, and extremely poorly documented in-game. It took me fucking ages to realize that a medic can just drop that med pack and people stand around it to heal. That's just one example. The game really is very confusing for me.

this game reminds me very much of the steep learning curve I had playing Bf2...and I came straight from 1942. Sitting in the game now, everything feels extremely foreign, the buttons are in different places, etc. I pushed the mousewheel to lob a nade and I stabbed a wall. I can't hit shit with the noob tube. Ironically, my first kill was a tube shot that I basically just threw up in the air for shits and giggles, imagine my surprise when someone actually died.

Can't wait to get some more practice in.

It's not that bad at all. It's just like any game that has different classes and takes a small time to learn.

Did you play MW2 (or even 1?), it took me a little while to adjust because it takes more to kill people in this game than the COD games. You have to hit with more bullets and explosives are very toned down so that you have to hit really close to the guy to kill them. I actually do way better because of this though, I have a pretty reckless play-style that got me killed a lot in MW2, but I can actually scramble and get to cover in this game before I die.
