I got into the game last night and have a few questions and comments...

Does anyone know if there is a way to tell your fps? I am checking on how crappy or decent my system is running at medium settings.

Also, for the folks who have tried th recon class, what are your thoughts on the sniper scope being hazy around the edges...

Playing last night and having only 1/3 of the scope in focus on top of the random fog / snow / obstruction made it friggin hard as hell to get accurate shots on moving targets!

Apparently no internal switch for this. Most people using FRAPS. I've seen Xfire suggested as a possibility too. Not tested by me.

Is FRAPS a free app? ( have never used it before)

Is it taxing on the system?

Again not sure how well my system is handling the game at the moment...sometimes it seemed good...othertimes it seemed like a dog on a hot summer day

yes FRAPS is free. If you have a G15, there's a program that will allow you to watch the FPS roll by on the LCD screen once you install FRAPS. And you can use that program to make screenshots and short vids.

Yeah be warned though recording video while you're playing is a pretty big hit to performance.

Played only for a half-hour or so last night but it looks like it'll be a blast. I loved Battlefield 2 and this looks like they only improved upon it. I do wish there was a Commander like before though. I'm gonna play the fuck outta it tonight for sure. :awe:

Bought it on steam. They had me at 4x4x4x4 combat battles.

I was also an avid BF2 player since Summer 05 and then COD4 from when it came out. I will tell it like it is, COD:MW2 left me a little butt hurt, but I still have faith in the programmers at DICE. Sure I wish they gave me prone back, but I will play it either way.

I believe he was just making the point that if one chooses to record video it comes at a cost

That it does. I've found that xfire's video record function does a better job IMO of keeping performance good in game while recording.

oh yeah? I haven't used xfire in years lol, I might have to check it out. And also, yeah I know you don't have to record when you're using FRAPs. I was too busy just having fun last night to do any performance testing, I'm hoping to look into performance more this weekend.

I love this game and I want to see it get better. A few things:

-Intro movies. Dead horse. But c'monnnn
-I sure have to click a bunch of times to log in - maybe we could streamline that?
-Server browser fixes are on the way, I'm told.

The unlock system is TOTALLY in place though, contrary to my previous post. I've got the recoilless rifle now and for the life of me, can't figure out what it's good for vs. the RPG.

Finally got to try it, it runs just fine. On medium settings with high texture settings it runs with a really solid frame rate (not using fraps so I can't say for sure).

Then for kicks I raised all settings to max, 4xaa, v-sync and HBAO enabled. Probably runs 20-some fps, which I suppose isn't terrible considering my video card and the system reqs. I'll try it without HBAO and AA and it'll proly run a lot better. I have to say though, it looks pretty good on medium.

Yep. Even on servers with a good ping I just rubberband around everywhere. I managed to get about 5 minutes of lag-free play in and it was very good, although I miss prone :(.

I wouldn't say it feels exactly like a PC battlefield game (this might just be lack of prone and the different game mode), but that's what BF3 is for I guess. Either way, it should be lots of fun. And the sounds are EXCELLENT ^_^

Edit: At 1920*1080 on the system in my sig it's fairly smooth maxed with 4xAA/16xAF. If I turn off AA and HBAO it never slows down. AA only seems to work on some things too, like it smooths out my gun but anything that shares a border with the sky seems to be jaggy still.
I'll second your statement re: the sounds. I think they're the best battle sounds I've heard in a military-style FPS.

I also didn't like the sniper scope haziness too much either. I guess it is supposed to make it harder to snipe, but kind of annoying to me. Also the sniper doesn't zoom back in automatically after shooting can be good/bad.

PATCH is up and running.

How long has it been up? About 2 hours now right? I had an update when I tried at 4:30 CST. I ask because I want to make sure I'm using the latest version, since now i see no update alert.

BTW...I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH

Also, where are more beta keys available? I want to play with my friends but they haven't got keys. Myinternetservices.com claims they'll have more soon, and i3d.net is supposed to have more tomorrow as well. Anywhere else?

so far, i'm not too impressed. infantry vs infantry combat has nothing on MW. there's something odd about mouse movement, something is not smooth about it.

The automatic patch install isn't working for me, says "Could not find the new patch. There might be an internet problem or the server is down." When I choose to play the old version, it won't let me enter my beta key, says "That code is already in use". Anyone else having either of these problems?

Edit: Running as admin fixed the patch problem, hold for key problem, maybe one fixed the other.

Edit 2: Still won't authenticate my key.

I have to say I far prefer the infantry combat in this, people die far too fast in MW.

Just got done playing some of it and I love it! Running on kind of a mixture of medium/high on a 5770 and I never slow down. Also looks really good on these settings! My only problem is I can't seem to get the mouse sensitivity right, but that may just be an issue in windows I need to solve.

How do I do that force processor hack? Thought I would try that and see if it helps any.

well not considering bullet damage, but i'm talking more about smoothness, accuracy, mouse movement, etc... and goddamn no prone sucks ass.

Im away from my computer for the weekend but i got to play it on the xbox today. It was much smoother and things felt much better on the xbox. I got a ton more kills as well because of the auto aim.

On the xbox, there isnt that weird line in the middle of the windows on the mg so Im guessing its a bug on the PC.

The game is amazingly fun, Im just waiting on the fixes to make the game just feel was crisp as it was on the xbox demo.
