Someone posts screenshots from the beta so I can decide whether to get it for 360 or PC.
Put +fullproc into the target line to force it to use all your cores, whether dual or quad. That has helped some with performance.
Ah cool thanks for the info man, I'll have to try that tonight.
@Zargon: I've picked up the F2000 from dead assault guys and it is way better than the AK. One thing is for sure though assault rifles kill a lot faster than the engineer submachine guns do. I wish you could pick up just the main gun instead of having to swap whole kits though, I always like to have some anti tank stuff with me. Especially in this game, I was using my RPG half the time to blow holes in walls and make my own path around the map.
+Fullproc has a substantial benefit on my performance, with it turned on I'm now only using 60-80% CPU across two cores rather than 100% on one.
A new BFBC2 PC Beta client is on its way.
Don't worry it is a new painless process and will not be a massive 1.4Gb download again.
Watch this space for information on fixes and how to go about getting the RC2 Client.
The RC2 contains the following fixes:
Front end:
Fixes server browser crashes. Server browser more resilient against corrupt online service data, and better support for large number of servers.
Several server browser ping issues resolved.
Windows XP stability:
Fixed crash on windows XP at end of round, exit game and display mode changes and.
Proper window style / mouse confinement when starting game maximized on XP .
Options dialog:
Mouse sensitivity setting gives more effect.
Mouse sensitivity loaded on game startup.
The update to RC2 will be 8.4Mb
Some optimizations and tricks you guys may want to try for the beta:
1. Shut Steam off, then reload it, to see the beta download.
2. When it prompts you for your CD-key in-game, goto desktop, then steam, and right-click on the beta launch to "get CD key".
3. Launch the game directly from the /program files/steam/steamapps/ folder instead of in steam.
4. Use the Play Now in game instead of browsing for servers, for now. Keep trying, once I got in it was good for hours.
A few more tips once you are in game to tweak a few settings:
To fix sticky controls (for those who get key shadow/lag with wasd etc):
- Delete the joystickconrols under foot (options->controls->foot) than it works fine
(reported to remove the console feel of the controls)
To run DX9 for improved performance (this also stops random crashes for some people):
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "settings"
- Add "DxVersion=9" to the list (without quotation)
(helped alot of people on dual core or not satisfied with FPS)
For a reported giant general performance boost: (and disable HDR, or "bloom")
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "settings"
- Change "Bloom=true" to false
(reported increase in FPS and many people prefer the reduced "glow")
For another potentially big performance update (especially with Quad Core users):
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "settings"
- Change "HSAO=true" to false (also settable in the in-game "advanced" graphics settings)
(big performance boosts and generally smoother PC controls here)
You closed the PunkBuster agreement window and can't get it back:
- Head to Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield bad company 2 beta\install\PunkBuster and re-install Punkbuster
To run the game in a window:
- Simply hit alt+enter and change your resolution to something smaller than your desktop.
To enable the Steam overlay on DirectX 11 cards:
- Participate in the Steam client beta (Settings > Account > Beta participation) and set it via BFBC2 settnigs.ini (instructions above). An overlay fix for 10.1 is being worked on.
For sticky/laggy mouse issues:
- Disable mouse acceleration in the game's mouse settings, and turn off Vsync in the graphics settings.
(supposed to feel more like PC controls if you do this)
Hope this helps some of you that are not happy with the look or feel of controls in this beta.

how are the sights on it?
one gripe I have is the mounted machine guns...whats with the stupid ass BAR in the middle of the 'window' its in.
on the 3rd set, I was defending B via the MG on the building next door and got ALOT of faraway kills with it, so the damage at range seems good, since its a .50 cal
Does anyone know how to cap screens? I was trying to cap some really cool stuff I saw last night and print screen doesn't work for this. Does fraps have a screen cap feature? If I can figure out how to screen cap I'll post some 1900x1200 screens with maxed settings for people who are wondering how it looks.
I'm gonna play around with some driver settings tonight as well, like super sampling AA and stuff like that. I felt like the screen was still tearing a little even though I had vsync on, did anyone else notice this at all?
Printscreen? I would give that a go. Your keyboard comes with it, standard![]()
Hmm I didn't really get to use it for long range, I'm more of a rush type guy I like to stay close to the heavy action. It did seem more accurate than the AK though, but I can't say for sure. I noticed I got killed a lot from far range with the XM8, so maybe that is the gun you're looking for. I'm close to unlocking the XM8C for engineer, it seems really easy to unlock stuff in this.
The destructible terrain is pretty amazing, the last game I played last night we defended the first 2 points until we won and the front area was almost completely leveled by that point.
What are the advantages of squads?
it seems really easy to unlock stuff in this.
where did you find these port #s? are they TCP or UDP? and what to put in for base port?
i checked the readme file and it says nothing of these ports...
Lol as I said, print screen didn't seem to work.
how are the AT mines?
are they one hit kills or does it take 2 or 3?
The number of keys is limited!
We currently have 0 keys left.
More keys will be available Friday 20:00 CET
(Non-steam users. Reportedly, for Steam users, this exe is zero bytes)If you have trouble updating by running the game itself go to \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield Bad Company 2 - BETA and run BFBC2BetaUpdater.exe as Administrator.
