dice/ea is constantly breaking this game. was solid just prior to this dlc. now broken again.

I did some 4gb and dual core testing yesterday, bugs and issues may still arise but idk how performance has improved so dramatically on lower end hardware.

Some reason i don't install the dlc these days and when i don't,the majority of crashes, bugs and other issues disappear. You get a occasional server crash but that is about as bad as it is.

Went about moving my BF4 folder to another location for unspecified reasons, ended up moving it to a folder i renamed"EAERRORONLINE".😀

Couldn't help myself,if i got a dollar for each time a game crashed or didn't load due to that error message since this games release those dollars would have paid for a 980 ti by now at least.

These days that error hardly pops open.It makes a occasional appearance like Mark Wahlberg in a Transformer movie but overall its been a minimal issue these days.

anyone else recently having errors after the last dlc.

say hello to "dxgi error device hang."

dice/ea is constantly breaking this game. was solid just prior to this dlc. now broken again.

If hope you realize that's direct X/driver error and might not have anything to do with dice/ea. Do you tweak your OS? Load custom or otherwise recently update drivers?

edit: likely GPU or sound related.

phoenix86.
it is NOT directx/dirver error. no other game is broken. just stupid bf4.
fresh os re-ghost and bf4 still broken.

skipsneeky2
good advice. will definitely rename the bf4 folder.

BF4 runs beautifully on my machine, and has for over a year.. The game isn't broken.

This is most likely a sound/graphics card/driver/related OS setting problem.
DX thinks your graphics card (or sound) has been disabled, removed or reinitialized. Check your PCI express power settings, turn it off.

While possible, it's very unlikely this is directly related to an application.

I had an annoying "DX device hang error" a few patches ago that would only pop up on the Dragon's Teeth DLC, it was especially bad on Pearl Market. I did some research on it at the time and found lots of BF4 players were having the same issue. I tried all the usual fixes like new drivers, reinstalling DX, updating PB, and several other not so usual fixes, but nothing worked. I too blamed DICE and I believe I was right because after the next patch a couple months later it was fixed and Ive had no problems since.

A quick google search will show lots of these issues around Jan 2015, but mine occurred later in the spring and early summer.

This last patch is one of the first in ages that honestly didn't cause more issues then fixed.I know it involved some DLC which i haven't installed or played as of yet but its been pretty alright.Maybe my pick of servers but i found those crash more these days then i used to during the worst of BF4 times.

Fresh reformat here with a fresh install, its been pretty flawless so far.I find a fresh game reinstall usually is the cure to many issues till another patch comes out that messes something up.This patch though, its been fine.🙂

The game right now feels about as good as it could i think.

this is definitely a exclusive bf4 "hung" issue.

as for a fix. google has turned up everything from crazy to nutty as a possible fix.
from reverting video driver
to reducing cpu/memory/gpu clock
to turning off igpu
to adding crossfire
to windowed mode
to moving physx to cpu
to adding more voltage
to overclocking cpu clock
to new psu
to device going into the porn industry.

enough device porn for me.
taking skipsneeky2 advice. will rename the bf4 folder.:thumbsup:

Right, but that doesn't mean the cause is in BF4. It's possible, but just because one app is the only one producing the error doesn't mean it's the cause. It is a DX error, so you start there, not the application. In general this means your graphics card is choking.

Many searches show this is related to over clocking and customized drivers. It seems you tweak your system a lot, and in my experience whatever performance gains you get are often lost to tracking down odd errors and re-imaging your machine.

FWIW I haven't had to reimage this box since I installed 7 just after it was released. I don't get funky errors like this. BF4 has run great since about the 2nd major patch (it was clearly buggy on release), I haven't had a single crash since the code was fixed.

I'd start with stock CPU/GPU/memory speed and timings. Clean mature drivers.

system is bone stock. hate overclocking with a passion. when performance is necessary. simply coin up to the next fastest.

should have mention this is a quad 290x setup with eyefinity - if that even mattered.

thanks for trying to help.

I'd disable eyefinity, then run a single card. If it's still happening, swap cards. Might have a bad card, although I'm thinking it's software related.

Oh it's software related all right.....DICE's!!! LOL

I would almost bet the farm it's a BF4 issue, next patch (if there is one) will most likely fix his problem and cause the same thing to happen to dozens of others.

If I hadn't seen this firsthand then Id probably say otherwise.

Sure, it's very possible. I'm just saying if a house is on fire, you don't put water on the house next to it first. 😉

Also, several threads I read on the issue had "removed over clock and it fixed it".

Every BF game i have played, even the most stable of overclocks for every other game in my library simply would crash for a BF game.I even lower factory overclocks and random crashes would stop.

True, and that's why I tried every fix I could find but nothing helped in my case until the next patch released and it cured itself.

When problems arise you have to try fixes, and 99% of the time you will eventually find the right tweak if you are persistent. But on the other hand, I also know how annoying it can for everyone to keep telling you it's on your end when it's not. This DX device hung error has been around since BF3 and it really stinks when it happens to you. :'(

I must also confess that I do OC my processor and I did not try removing the OC since it was only happening on maps I wasn't very fond of to begin with. All the other maps and DLC played just fine. The weird thing is that the Dragons Teeth DLC also played fine (with the same OC) right up until that one certain patch came out and boom the error began to appear.

So it's like it was only on your end. 😛

My experience, again outside release->maybe 2nd/3rd patch has been extremely smooth with BF4 (and BF3). I can't recall a single crash outside that window. Well, I also had a bad video card that was hard locking my system, but that was clearly a hardware issue and went away immediately once replace (was also locking system on other games).

My 2 cents, run stock OS and drivers. It's nice being "normal" an only experiencing issues when everyone has them. Want more performance, do as UaVaj said and pony up for better hardware.

Anyways, finally got some more time for dragon valley and that map is great. It's a nice mix of play styles. Infantry battle on the two nodes in the middle. Tank battles on the outside edges. Enough sniping, but also enough cover. Decent air battles. Couple flaws with it, but meh, overall it's good.

Problem on my end???....NONSENSE!!! 😀

My processor is more than enough for BF4 without an overclock but I bought that unlocked K model just for the purpose of OC'ing the daylights out if it and have done so since the day I first built this machine with zero issues of stability in any games or apps. BF4 ran perfectly for me (other than the release issues you mentioned) for over a year until that one patch borked it this past spring. The very next patch resolved the problem and I never changed the overclock. I dont know what causes the device hung error, my son has never had it, while Ive suffered it once in both BF3 and BF4. Worthy of note is the fact that I was running BF3 on an older machine at all stock speeds, and again the next BF3 patch resolved the problem. UaVaj also said his machine is "bone stock", which pretty much proves overclocking isn't the issue here.

This week I was getting the BF4 'appcrash' at least twice when I start the game. Then after I end the processes for Java update and 'tiltwheelmouse' the game stabilizes for a while.

I seriously hope that BF5 doesn't crash as much as BF4 does.

I haven't played BF4 since before Christmas, as I started playing 'CCTA: Tiberium Alliances' again.

Last week I got an EVGA 980ti card and Windows 10. I tried out BF4 last night... WOW... The 980ti is a 'monsta, and BF4 ran fine.

What is your BF name? I am always looking for someone to play along.
Mine is Count_Chocu1a.
There are still a couple of ATOT guys around here that still play, too

Sounds good... I generally play BF4 in the morning/sometimes at night. My in-game name now is 'Jury-Pool-Reject'. I do get bored and change my user-name frequently. Friend me...and I'll look for you...

I play mostly on the 'Golmud Railway' map on low-ping East coast servers.

EDIT..... Just friended you....

I had an odd issue where the game locked up and my rig made a crazy noise loop and sounded like the damn thing exploded. Hard restart was needed. Only in BF4.
It sounded like I shot my rifle and it echoed and morphed into the sound of a nade exploding, but I didn't even shoot. It just did that crazy sound and I just starred at the screen all confused. That was last night or the night before.

Could be driver bug or a hardware fault really. Something took control over your CPU and wouldn't give it back to the OS or the OS crashed to the point it couldn't recover due to a hardware fault.
