So you want all this speculating (which most find entertaining) to end for our sakes? How very caring of you. We're all big boys and girls here, we can handle it. It wouldn't be the first time we've been "let down" by tech companies now would it😉

OK big boy. Go handle it.

Does anyone have a lot of knowledge of directx 11 and the GCN architecture to know where any big performance gains might be had?( well other than what has already been mentioned. )

A little funny backlook. You have one standpoint until you take a new:

Do not worry. AMD will make sure Mantle works perfectly fine on Nvidia GPUs. Just like NV did for AMD with PhysX.

Oh come on man! Is it really that hard to avoid this thread and others like it?
I'm sure you know the timeline to when more info can be had - the AMD developer summit next month and the battlefield mantle patch in Dec
I can see why some on here accuse of trying to downplay anything that AMD does
Do yourself a favour and avoid these discussion threads if they irk you so much

This is great advice keys. People want to discuss the possible merits of mantle let them. You think its ridiculous that people are so excited about this, but just realize that it is just as ridiculous that you keep posting negative comments in the same thread. This is far more exciting news than s GPU launch. It has the potential to change the balance of power in PC hardware in many ways.

Ok. You're right. I'll leave you guys to it.

You can't really compare Mantle to PhysX.

Mantle is designed to take advantage of GCN to improve performance.

PhysX takes advantage of geforce to reduce performance with silly visuals.

PhysX was crippled by NVidia to those who run AMD as primary for no logical reason other than spite.

As far as Mantle goes we'll see soon enough if the word Ridicule was the one to use.

Maybe Mantle will be AMD's iPhone? Time will tell.

Battle of the SOC's in the mobile sector is were things will get ugly!

Thing is, I've learned not to tout anything anymore until I've seen it and it is good. I grew tired of being let down by hype.
Then carry on. I hope your expectations are fulfilled.

So why do you continue to post negative comments in these topics then? If you don't want to participate in the discussion because of the "hype", then stop commenting.

Damage control. Nvidia has nothing comparable, and even though nobody has a clue what Mantle will do, they're understandably nervous.

This is true. I think the point is, though, for something to be considered a value added feature it has to have a lot of actual games supporting it. I've always maintained that I think it's awesome for AMD to attempt something similar to NV in creating value added features. Physx has a lot of titles, while Mantle doesn't. Yet.

I think AMD is attempting to get Mantle into many of the cross platform engines such as UE4, Cry Engine, and so forth. That will take time, and it will take additional time for those efforts to be realized with actual games. Now, don't get me wrong - BF4 is a huge win for AMD in terms of getting Mantle out there. But it's only one game (even though it will be a huge game on PC).

So the abridged version is, Mantle will be considered a value add in terms of purchase decision when a lot of games support it. AMD has work to do there, and hopefully they can get it done - but in the meantime, I don't think anyone will buy the 290X at launch based on Mantle. Mantle is a long term proposition. Not a short one. My take is: I think Mantle is an awesome idea. But I would not make a purchase decision on it until a lot of games used it. That's why i'm personally judging the 290X next week by DX11 only and nothing else.

If you wish me to leave the thread, then stop responding to me with questions?

Funniest post I have read here in a long time. Thanks for the laugh

Reads like a AMD marketing slide......thanks for the material!

You could just as easily ask why Mantle fans keep posting speculation again and again, with no hard numbers to refer to. Actually, just like in the console thread a few months ago, each new round of speculation seems to escalate to even higher levels. We have gone from predicting 30% or less improvement to specualting that 1ghz craptops will run BF4. Bottom line is just like in the console thread, nobody really knows.

If AMD/Mantle fans have the right to keep posting speculation on how huge the improvements will be, dont others have the right to post their own speculation that it will not be that much?

All I'm hearing is a LOT of "IFS". I want numbers. And until then, I would like this Mantle touting BS to end. It's now getting to ridiculous levels.
In other words, put up or shut up (so to speak).
From independent sources who's name does not include the acronym A.M.D.

Naturally, that is what debate and discussions are for. Read the above though, it's not speculating, rather it's about wanting the "mantle touting BS to end" and "put up or shut up".

In the end we don't have material to debate much so I can see the futility in arguing out of thin air, but that goes a bit far when the guy is in here telling people to quit talking about mantle now because he is "sick" of it? 😵

What....Maybe they should send me some free stuff then!

Your sig....If you don't get the analogy then remove it! If so no bid deal to me.

Note to AMD guys: PM me for shipping instructions 🙂

Ok. You're right. I'll leave you guys to it.
Keys, if you yourself don't want to respond to this thread with all the defensive posters harping on you, I understand. But don't let the fanboys bully you out of a discussion. I don't agree with everything you say but I appreciate contrary views. Helps keep it real.

So... since Mantle is so friggin awesome, I'm going to be able to get 60fps in Battlefield 4 at 1920x1200 Ultra settings using an $89 R7 240, right? 😉

60 fps? Are you running VSYNC or something? You should be able to get 120fps easy. Mantle will manipulate the metal bro!

Awesome! I'm totally tossing out my old Titan card for one of those!

It just goes to show... When if comes to video cards, newer model numbers are always better! 😉

There sure is a lot of conflicting information. Here is an obviously-slanted piece written over at Semi-Accurate, that goes against what a lot of the mantle-enthusiasts are saying in these threads. The author seems worried that Microsoft is flat out rejecting Mantle, because nobody is going to code for D3d and Mantle unless they get paid to.

Microsoft Officially Turns Down Mantle

"...From this, we know Microsoft doesn’t see Mantle as a competitor just because Mantle might be present in the (potentially) competing game consoles, like PS4 and the rumored Steam Box (or any devices running SteamOS with GCN-based GPU). We also can surmise that Microsoft isn’t threatened by the potential performance gains brought by Mantle to those platforms, instead Microsoft is positioning Mantle itself as a competitor to their own Direct3D API already, just like OpenGL...."

Speculating about potential positives of mantle in a thread dedicated to mantle is called contributing. Speculating that mantle can't possibly work because its amd is called thread crapping and it is against forum rules.

There has been a lot of thread crapping going on.
