But to take it down a notch you said you saw someone shot and that does suck, but we must have grown up in different geographic locations. I was raised in inner city Philly. What slum were you raised in? Might account for our different perspectives I

And how do you know he got it from a parent? He could have found it on the street somewhere, or he could have gotten it from a friend.

There are too many possibilities when someone has a gun. You have no clue how they acquired it.

I found a crackpipe in a park when I was doing community service in a bad part of Detroit once. I was 15...I had no clue what the thing was until I picked it up (with gloves on) and took it to one of the people in charge. They freaked the hell out.

I am sure its just as easy to come across a gun under the same exact circumstances...well, except for the not know what it is part.

Handguns aren't just lying around on the street.

And if he got it from a friend (what kind of gun owner loses his guns like that..?) then that friend's parents are reckless. Either way, it is the fault of the people around him. This isn't like a lightning strike out of the blue. Societal forces molded this kid his entire life until he became this monster.

Explain to me how a single parent household is a broken home? I, for one, am especially interested since I grew up in a single parent household.

I'm sure some of us here on AT who grew up under the same circumstances would like to know too.

Explain how a two parent household is stable. Are they automatically stable..by virtue of the fact that there's two parents or...?

Broken. As in one parent is missing. This is a commonly used term.

A 2 parent household is inherently more stable. This should be obvious

Chicago. Now, Los Angeles. So sure, probably different.

I don't call them slums though... not to get all Moonie, but that does come off as kinda self-hating. The place produced you and you're generally a reasonable and worthwhile fellow on a message board (so likely a very good person out in the world).

But you started from a position that read to me like hopelessness, and that pushed my buttons.

That scenario I came up with wasn't about any race, but situations I saw. Me? I was lucky and had parents who tried and loved me. A Jewish family took interest in me, the white trash when I was in school and showed me kindness I didn't know existed. They gave me an advantage others didn't have. You listened to the kids on the street and beating someone want good or evil in a sense many think of. You just did it. There wasn't any real malace just no hope. If the police came we ran because if we didn't we got beat up. If there had been an outreach most would have tried to scam them. Sorry, I was abrupt and responded to harshly but you don't forget where you came from and it kind of follows you. Are there things which might be done? I think so but I see neither wit nor will from those in power. Always lots of words. ShShouldn't have jumped on you.

Don't expect too much. Nehalem hates women, especially single Mothers. You should read his philosophies on rape.
 
All cases are different. Some career women choose to be single mothers. Others become single parents because they discover that the person they were romantically involved with is crazy.

Some single mothers are irresponsible. Personally, I can attest to a single mother I know who went to Florida for a week, got drunk to 11 despite having a cold, and apparently she took her daughter or son with her down there. 25 years old.

Either way, a single mother will struggle more with money and there will not be a male role model in the home. They won't have a dad to help teach them what it means to be a man. That's why so many young men become so hyper-aggressive: they don't know how to control their aggression. They were never taught how to deal with situations.

Well I sure as hell am not going to say that losing a parent to death is a good thing or improved their life :colbert:

Yes there is a difference in the severity of the rape scenarios you outlined.

I do think one of those rapes is worse than the other rape, but its rape none the less. at least according to the laws of the state in which the defendents were convicted.

What is indirect?

You talked about families in which one parent dies. I said I think its pretty clear that is a bad thing. Broken implies bad.

Now imagine a family headed by a single mother. If one parent dies do you see why that might be worse than a family with 2 parents? Or why it might be less stable?
