Like I said I grew up in a similar neighborhood and have worked in some areas like this. It comes down to "I want and you give or else". Almost always these kids come from a screwed up home and what I describe is something you may not like but happens. If you missed the point, this is what too many kids deal with and the moral compass they develop is on the street. You live in blessed ignorance and I'm happy for you. That does not change reality.

I don't attach a lot of higher social meaning to this. In most crimes that are this disgusting, it comes down to one person who has mental problems who drives the act. Those problems were likely made worse by their home life, but the person themselves is just a sick individual.

If I had to speculate I'd say the 17 year old was a sociopath, with mental issues, and the 14 year old was in the same social circumstances and stupid and decided robbing people was the right thing to do. One of them (I'd speculate the 17 year old) surprised the other with his craziness by shooting the kid between the eyes.

We've had similar cases in Tacoma, my hometown. Some gangster dude murdered three people (one woman, completely unrelated to any gripes he had) execution style over perceived sleights and a jacket he lost. Come to find during trial the dude was just a nutcase, calling himself Lucifer etc., determined to do evil things.

I don't attach this to the gang culture in general but more to mental illness, like the guy in Newtown. Crazies are among us white and black.

If Mom was packing she may have been able to prevent it. If the perps had competent parents, that might have helped also.

However, the baby may have been wearing a hoodie so its really moot.

From the sound of it and the most of testimony the mother gave (that we've heard)...it sounds to me like the 17 year old was doing all the talking/shooting.

In cases like this I don't think it is fair to blame the parents, some people are just born evil, and no parenting will change that.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has Anti Social Personality Disorder, which is a condition from birth and no good parenting will fix it.

I'd be surprised if they had parenting. Children, especially in bad neighborhoods, raise themselves these days.

I'm still going to blame the parents for not being there.

It's not possible to know but many parents don't know how to be. That's a serious issue and is real. Umbrella wants to hide the issue in race, but you can find this in the whitest parts of Russia. Blacks certainly have more issues but not because they are inferior, but because of realities of inner cities. It's people like him which prevent intelligent investigation and solutions. If you see a problem you must be racist. Black Leave it to Beaver lives. No.

OPs article is a tragedy but I'm not really surprised. People can be vicious. The world ain't supposed to work like that folks.

There isn't enough information in the article to tell if he did it. The article tries to be ambiguous on purpose. If they are charging him, did they find the gun? Do they have video evidence? etc.

Of course the family says "He would never do that." its just ridiculous. However, his surprise upon getting arrested is interesting since it sounds like a genuine response.

The article doesn't tell you enough. It is actually slanted toward innocence but the fact he is being charged hints that the police actually have more evidence than the article cares to tell you about.

Man the news is so dumb. Trying to spark another debate. Look at you morons in this thread arguing about the slant and the lack of evidence. (Which at its core, is what you are arguing about)
