They may know it's wrong but they don't understand the severe consequences for the dead person's family or themselves. They aren't thinking long term, That is why they do stupid shit.

I understand how this works. The brain centers responsible are not shut down, they are maturing. We're looking at nurture, not nature or else the lack of reasoning due to immaturity would be widespread and crime would be uniform among all demographics.

The supreme court said you cannot seek the death penalty for a minor, not that you cannot charge a minor for murder as an adult.

Once they are adults what is the difference? They are still being charged for 1st degree murder.

Again, no.

Malvo (Beltway sniper case) was charged as an adult for murder and spared the death penalty due to the linked ruling because he was under 18 at the time the crimes occurred.

It's not that they're evil. It's that they're teenagers. Teenagers' brains are not fully developed so they are capable of unspeakable crimes because their thought process is not mature. In fact, there is a chart out there that shows that people within the age group of 18-24 are the most violent people in the world. Ironically, that is the group that is legally allowed to have firearms. If you put everyone there then I would say 15-19 is the most violent group. When it comes to a teenager with a weapon, they will act without thinking so it's better to just give them what they want.

This sounds like a case of premeditated murder.

If he says I'm going to kill your baby if you don't give me all your money, she doesn't and he shoots, doesn't that qualify?

Ah, people are really shitty.

14 and 17....why?

The woman couldn't even tell how old the youngest was, she told the cops that he looked as young as 5 years old.... I wonder what he looks like, we will never know.

Why...why...why, would someone do this?

She said the oldest threatened her by saying "do you want me to shoot your baby?" when she told them that she didn't have any money.

She said he got pissed and shot at her twice. The first shot, he was aiming for her head but grazed her ear...so he shot her in the leg. And then went around and shot the baby and ran down the street with the youngest kid.

So bizarre and evil.

This is why we need to make abortion available for free to everyone in the country.

In a better world, the perp would have been aborted and wouldn't exist.

Because they are a bad case of us. They were simply more full of the ego that protects us from knowing we hate ourselves and projects that hate onto a mother who denies that ego because she has no money. We are all ready to kill rather than feel what we feel, how worthless we were made to feel as children. And there is a conspiracy among all of us to keep this a secret. We would rather die than solve this problem. To know truth is to suffer like you cannot imagine and yet, you already have. So sad too because we have all been forgiven because we were never guilty of anything but our surrender to lies and that could not have been otherwise.

Outside the hell we create by put downs, there is only love. It is what you really are, in my opinion.

If we all cared about the born like the right says they do about the unborn, it wouldn't be an issue.

When the teenager said he would shoot the baby in the head, what do you think he was thinking? To him, it was not dare to get her attention but a line that he would cross if this lady did not do what he asked. Why? Because she did not give him what he wanted and he wanted to punish her. He already stated what he would do and he did it. Simple. An older person would've succumbed to the woman's pleas for her child and felt empathy for her plight. A teenager has no such feelings because he does not have such experience. An older person may have just taken the lady's purse or whatever she had on her and called it a day, knowing full well that killing a child may have physical and psychological consequences for him later. But, to this teenager, it was a promise he intended to keep.

You may not like to hear this but it's true. Teenagers DO NOT have a developed brain. They don't think things through. I have a psychiatrist in my family who also told me this (he's a family psychiatrist). If they have a gun there is no reasoning with them. They will act. Of course, in a situation like this, if you know how they will behave, it is easy to manipulate them out of this. If I was in the same situation as the mother and the teenager said "I will shoot your child" then it's better to just fight them for the gun after you've manipulated their attention (no matter how long).

I agree.

I still want to see him terminated.

There's no salvaging this one. one of the biggest factors for a career criminal is actually that they start offending young. So if he is ever let out of jail, he's going to do worse.

Really, they need to have some sort of "fast track" for the death penalty.

For the record, I am not trying to excuse this crime. It's just that I don't believe in "evil". It's too simplistic a word. To me, there's a reason why people do what they do and it's better to understand the "why" than to simply give it a moral label. Should they die for this crime? That's a tough call since they are not mature yet. But, honestly, I think their parents should be in the jail cell right next to them since they are partly responsible for this.

Evil is because of the senselessness of the action. It's causing harm without first trying to prevent it, and because he literally had nothing to gain by doing this to a random stranger, but did it anyways.

I think that if a teenager like decides to break into a store, gets caught, panics and shoots, that's salvageable. But he simply killed...because he could.
