If you going to use the GUI version be sure to minimise the window ,& if set as the scrn svr too enable 'blank screen' in the scrn svr settings & set to less than 6mins.Doing this 1/2's Work Unit time!.
Alternatively if you use the CLI version its still about 25% faster!

Even that old rig of yours can still add a worthwhile amount:)

Thanks for joining us folks:D

You do know that you can use the same account on multiple computers, yeah?

This means you will get twice the credit, on the same account, so will move up the ranks quicker ;)

They are moving across to a new platform, called BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing), which is a platform for running/controlling DC projects. At this time, they are bring out a new Seti client, specifically for BOINC, and are starting their data analysis of radio signals recieved from their new reciever in the Southern Hemisphere.

The combination of these, and a new credit system, is marking the start of "SETI@homeII", and the current SETI@home system will be stopped. The standings for the past 5 years worth of work will be taken, and frozen, and of course, be visible for all to see for eternity. That is one reason why we want to be in the top 5, and listed above our friends, but long-time rivals, BroadBand Reports :)

The reason many from DC do not venture out into OT is simply due to ppl like Redawn and such. The DC forum is the nicest bunch of guys around. They will willingly help w/ anything in their power both here and in the real world if something is up w/ someone.

Just imagine the uproar if there was a special bulletin that made the front page as a full fledged article ;)

either way, welcome all that have joined!
To the naysayers...its ending soon so :p

Sorry but im keeping my CPU cycles on something more worthwhile to me..... such as the Find-A-Drug project. To help find cures for cancer/aids/sars...etc.

Stupid question, but after the installation, it appears to be working fine, but it only uses 50% of the CPU cycles. I'm using a hyperthreaded P4, so maybe that has something to do with it, but how do I get 100% usage??

edit: Nevermind, I figured it out, I just copied the files into a second dir and am now running two separate instances of the client. Now using 100%, I'll contribute my small number of blocks :)

i don't see why people bash this thread bein stickied, DC has more to do with anandtech then "meetings", but both are welcome. theres so much f1cking sh!te in this forum i can't believe a thread like this would motivate people to say anything.

anyway, i'll think i'll install thing thing again [installed it once but did one unit and forgot to turn it on again], besides, when d/lin in the day my comp may aswell do something usefull

Hmm.

I just got my new Athlon 64 rig today but the last time (last month) I put SETI into my home PCs (XP 1800@2400, Duron 650@950), both of them stopped working within a week of each other mysteriously. Not sure if I'm going to risk blowing out another PC.

Just remember that running any DC project runs your CPU at near 100% continuously so you need to make sure that your fans/cooling is in good order. Just a thought.

Come on over folks....bring some of that CPU power and become a part of the TeAm! :D

See you in the DC forum...and if SETI doesn't float your boat, please check out ALL of the other GREAT projects that TeAm AnandTech participates in. You'll be glad you did! ;)

I've run SETI on dozens of rigs for years now ,never caused a blow out ,though 1 rig's RAM went flaky & corrupted SETI!:p
Anyway ,I'd suggest that you either had extremley bad luck or you had faulty cooling.
What actually packed up on those 2 rigs?

Oh yeah & that Ath64 rig would steam through SETI:D

I doubt it was cooling since I personally put in all the fans and my temps were even lower than before I put them in.

I still can't figure out what happened to them but I know when I troubleshooted my main rig, I screwed up putting in the memory and shorted something out, killing the MB and the memory.

My new rig didn't come the way I asked so I'm waiting for some replacement parts to come. I'm not sure if I'll SETI it though with my past luck.
