MadMadRiles team IHATEHUMANS
Everyone on your TeAm needs to switch to TeAm AnandTech by changing the option in the Seti profile.

If you want to keep some kind of "Team" aspect, you could change your names as well, something like [IHATEHUMANS]YourNameHere :)

wow...I remember this seti@home stuff...I founded a decently high ranked team that once was in the top 25...(I think around 18) but sadly is now nowhere near that =( It's the Maximum PC team fwiw =p
Most of the MPC people switched over to the cancer thing though =( so that's why we dropped so quick in rank. Oh well...

Dual Athlon MP 1800+
Xbox (gentoo)
Linux 800 mhz K7
Celeron 533

Haven't been crunching workunits for TeAm AnandTech in awhile (I usually only run SETI when I'm trying to burn in my systems). But fired it up for this! Don't have a ton of power, 2.8Ghz P4... but every extra workunit counts right? ;)

You darn tooten it does! :D

"Strive for 5" and "More in 04"....

We need "More in 04" to keep ahead of BBR...and to take the 5th spot from HP...the "Strive for 5"!

Welcome to all the new and rejoining TeAmmates....and we could use a boost from the rest of you too! :D

I'm thinking Seti is a waste of time until they find proof that life existed on another planet. I've been reading alot about the Mars explorations and the whole reason finding life on Mars is such a big deal is that the chances of life existing elsewhere in the universe have increased quite a bit. Also the fact that we found life on another planet in our own solar system increases those odds even further. But until that happens, it seems to me that Seti requires a whole lot of faith and effort that will more than likely end up a huge waste of time. Sorry to rain on your parade, but I'm waiting for Spirit to send back some data on organic material.

LMAO!:D

You have just shot yourself in the foot!:p

What do you think SETI is trying to do? ,its trying to find proof of Intelligent life! ,if you don't look you won't find;)

No I didn't. I said "life" meaning living bacteria or fossil remains, etc. I'm saying there's better ways to be looking for life than this. The chances of receiving a radio signal from deep space from an intelligent life form are 100x more remote than one of the rovers finding fossilized evidence on Mars. I would compare it to searching for a living dinosaur when you haven't even found any evidence of their existence yet. Searching for a technologically advanced alien life form seems pointless when we haven't even established that life can exist on another planet in the universe. Culling through the background noise of the universe while an interesting concept has been going on for years. It's quite obviously not producing any results. Time to direct those resources towards something that is more likely to bear fruit. The Hubble telescope or the rovers. Seti had it's chance, we gave it a shot, now let it go. Those instruments can be used for something a lot more productive than Seti.

hmmmmm?

If you're not interested in the science, then how about a quote....

we are in a macho contest with BBR and I am determined that we are going to win it.

Broadband geeks beating the hardware geeks..........?

It's your choice....and welcome to those who jump in. I jumped in over 3 years ago from one of these threads.....the best online family I could have ever have become a part of.

Welcome to those already in....and an inviting welcome to the rest! :)

I can't believe you think that SETI has been running long enough to prove its point!:Q ,not being rude, but obviously you haven't the vaguest idea how absolutley massive just our own galaxy is, let alone the whole universe!.We are looking for a very tiny needle in a gianormous haystack. Not to mention the huge range of frequencies available to scan ,we have barely begun to scratch the surface of 'The search' (it only started in the 60's at a very low level). This is potentially a very long term project ,but if you don't look you won't ever find.:p

Btw I totally agree with you that we are very likely to find signs of past life on Mars etc before SETI turns up anything :)

Searching for a technologically advanced alien life form seems pointless when we haven't even established that life can exist on another planet in the universe

Personally ,seeing how diverse & absolutley massive the universe is ,I can't see how there could possibley not be other life out there. And I assume the S@H guys (& others) have the same view point ,hence the various SETI projects.
Also it is far easier & cheaper to scan the skys than send probes to other planets, but both 'missions' have their place.

It's quite obviously not producing any results. Time to direct those resources towards something that is more likely to bear fruit

S@H is funded by donations & volunteers ,no resources are being taken away from any goverment departments.

Inccidently ,I take it you haven't heard that the Hubble Telescope is going to be allowed to die?:( ,though they reckon it still has 3-4 yrs of useful life left.
Didn't they use hubble & other telescopes to detect new planets in other star systems?

Anyway ,we'd only be asking your help for a month or 2 at the most;) ,if your determined not to run SETI then why not check out 1 of the other science/medical projects being run?

cheers:)

If I were Bill Gates, I would have no problems donating a super computer to your cause.
