Well if the democrats are not going to give the republicans time to at least read the bill before voting, then the republicans should use filibuster and read all 700 pages of the bill to the senate.

Agreed. I would normally support the Dems here, but even moderate dems as well as Republicans are rightfully upset over this. You can't just send a package this big to committee and then immediately vote on it without having time to read, hell, print the changes made by the committee. A filibuster might not be necessary, but a full-on reading should get the message across. It is a commonly used delaying tactic in the Senate anyway. If the Repubs are smart, they will do this and not filibuster..... seems to strike a reasonable balance without making them out to be the bad guys...

My response.

Seriously...every thread?

The mods may have to get involved if every thread is derailed by "We won, get over it" ot "Cry?" type of responses.

Can you blame him? Every thread...

just about every thread on this forum lately is another right winger whining about .... everything.

Just like when Bush was in office, every thread was another left winger "whining about .... everything."

No change in DC, no change in here either.

Yup, bout the same

You can call it saving the world and put a smiley face on it, but we'll call it as we see it. The rush to action IS fear mongering, and the action to take is communist in nature.

Epic meltdown not found. A douchebag who essentially said nothing at all while pretending to have a profound argument against the contrary, found.

The smart ones are blaming both parties.

Don't give me that "both" parties crap. Both parties are to blame in that both parties are helping pass the stimulous package, but to say both parties at large are the blame is NOT smart. The right is overwhelmingly opposed to this tiny morsel of stimulous + 10 metric tons of bile that is being pushed by Obama and the left as the solution to our impending anarchy.

The smart ones realize it is 99% of Democrats trying to squeeze through a bunch of crap in this "stimulous" bill. Take your "both parties to blame" crap somewhere else, because it's intellectually dishonest to say such a thing about this bill.

They won't do that. They'll let the Dem's have at it, and then hope it won't work.

Please go look up the word 'communist'. Communism is a dictatorship by the proletariat in which the public seizes control of the means of production. You're going to have to point out to me where in this bill the public is seizing control of the means of production, or admit that you don't actually know what communism is.

If you think that screaming and gibbering about the damn commies killing your wife and kids, anally raping you, leaving your broken body in the snow, etc isn't an epic meltdown that's great. I genuinely hope that you'll keep posting more insane shit like that, because I laughed my ass off at it.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs' response

The stimulus bill was posted 'round midnight.

That gives legislators/the public less than 18 hours to read -- about 30 hours less than House Dems promised to give on all legislation.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs, when grilled about it on the trip back from Peoria last night, claimed an exemption to Obama's own commitment that to a longer, five-day review period.

Gibbs, via WH transcript:

We are working out a series of procedures to ensure that ? for non-emergency legislation, that people do have five days to look at the legislation that?s been passed by Congress before it?s signed into law. There have been some ? we?re working through the technicalities of how that happens and we?ll get a process together. I know there?s something up on the White House blog on this right now, or has been within the past few days... Obviously, if we get this bill, this would certainly meet the President?s test of emergency legislation. And if we?re lucky enough to have it pass, we?ll sign it rather quickly.

I was referring to the entire financial mess, not just the latest symptom. Both parties are absolutely responsible for the spending frenzy during the last 20 or 30 years. Anyone who denies that fact, and blindly attacks only one of the two parties, is an ignorant fool.

The Reps may be opposed to the current stimulus package as it is written, but they'd certainly have no problem spending $900 billion if the "ideas" were their own...

Something like this needs a proper reading/review. I will be PISSED if this passes without that process, despite my support of the bill so far...

He can't do anything wrong, anymore, even if you feel that way.

He can, but the stakes aren't as high if he does anymore. Ex-presidents still have a roll to play. From now on, the buck stops with the Obama administration. At this point, Bush can't do anymore damage than say, Carter has been the last 5 years or so...

Honest question, are you new to P&N? Have you been here at all over the past 8 years? Did you miss the libs crying every single time that Clinton's name was even mentioned? This is where the whole "buh buh buh but Bush!" thing has come from.

Lol I am a simple man . Looking at the world. Listening to world leaders talk and do nothing Good for humanity. Its not us who bring sufferring to the world . But our leaders.

I read what Dems say . I read what republicans say . I sit here a common man wondering how the universities of the world put out these great minds that keep us in the dark ages.

No I just Joe Blow sitting here wonder how this is all possiable . Its can only happen this way if someone makes it happen .

So this is how the Dems want to play? This is complete BULLSHIT. They make a promise, break it...and then expect people to blindly vote on something they haven't had time to read. So this is change we can believe in? If this is anyone's idea of how our government should work then they're a complete fool and should be lobotomized if they haven't been already. Our nation is so fucked up its unbelievable!

Yeah, I've been here. It is only the past few years that I've delved into P&N. My point was to try and assign blame only where it is due. Buh buh buh Clinton isn't anymore rational than buh buh buh Bush. Back when Bush first took office, I was a lurker (and Bush supporter still grumbling about McCain), but I wouldn't have put up with the kind of out of the gate poo-flinging at him anymore than I did when Obama first took office, before he had the chance to actually DO anything. Now that he is starting to, the effects of what he does is becoming more clear.

The more I get involved in P&N threads, the more I come to realize that the language used to approach the debates makes a huge difference. It is okay to do things in jest when discussing politics, but sometimes things like this just increase the volume of the shouting on both sides of the aisle which seems inversely proportional to the actual content level.
