If the amp output stage is capable of 70V they want class 1 wiring to be used IF it has to be concealed in a wall or attached to studs. Silly NEC (National Electric Code not the monitors) crap. Most people don't give a crap and run it whatever but if you have a building inspection, inspector, whatever and he or she is an ass you could be in hot water.

It will be a standard Denon or Onkyo reciever. Nothing Special.

Still check the specs. Usually it will have a sticker on the top cover near the back with this warning.

You won't die if you ignore it. But if your house burns down and they cannot find the cause but see SJ running around in the walls you may get raked across the coals by the insurance company.

Ok, so how do I know if it is class 1 wire and where do I find it?

If you're running it concealed just use wiring that's appropriate for code.

That would be NM, NMB, UF, or if running EMT you could run THNN single conductor runs. If running in EMT NEVER run circuit pairs inside independant tubes! But that's really rare for a homeowner.

NM (Non metallic sheathed cable) commonly called Romex is quite inexpensive compared to those crazy esoteric cables out there. Like anything else it's gone up due to the price of copper.

Some installers will have an electrician bring these runs into a box in the wall and the installer will terminate with a five way binding post plate. Then you can run the wire of your choice to your speakers.

The NEC handbook explains a lot. I'm not an electrician but I like reading it. :)

How long are your cable runs? Measure them and report back here. I seriously doubt that you need 10 AWG or even 12 AWG.

I will be setting up two theaters one now and one for a family member at a later time. The longest leinght measured is 60 feet plus a little bit more for routing around attic obsticles and such. A few extra feet will also allow for them to be relocated in a differant posisition in the future with out having to re-do the job over again.

2 walls 10 feet high then they will be place 35 feet from the reciever to the rear of the room.

For that run go with 14 or 12 AWG. I was going to post that wire chart that you found. Read everything on that page and understand it.

Is this for the Quintet system you have? Those dimensions seem like a large room for such small speakers.

HDMI - convert it all, I am up for that! I have so many cables with so many different connectors and specifications, it would be nice to have one connection scheme.
Yeah, it's called an RCA connection. [/b]
RCA is a connector type. Did you mean coaxial? If so, what coaxial format handles both audio and video?

RCA analogue.
Oh, I thought you meant one single RCA connector doing it all.

Wow, away from my computer for a few hours and look what happens!

- Speaker wire is pretty much just stranded copper wire with red and black jackets. It is the same as almost all other wire. Though romex would work, since that is solid core it may be hard to work with. If you get commercial wire (THHN or THNN) you can get stranded. Minerva, not sure where you are, but I am located in the Midwest, around here if it is not transporting 120V the inspector doesn't care, talked to him when I was doing my theater. I think Googer you better check your local codes, or maybe my inspector just wasn't interested (by how he looked at the rest of the stuff I find that hard to believe though!)

I went to my AV shop and got a real of 14AWG stranded speaker wire, it was more than romex (about 2X cost) but being stranded it worked well, and sheathed in a set made for a simple installation. As was said as long as the wire is heavy enough for your run (there was a link showing it) should not be an issue. my longest run was about 30ft. Use can use whatever wire, just telling you how I did it.

And no, it was not Monster wire, high grade O2 free seems like a scam to me at $0.79/ft. I will stick with my $0.24/ft wire I used! Connected my Bose speakers to my Bose TV all with Bose wires! Bose Wires, guaranteed to convert Standard broadcast to 1550P HD Signals!

Yes good point! Check you local codes. We're in NC; Hatteras Island where the famous lighthouse is. If I leave my shades open at night the light comes in my window LOL.

People that spend BIG $$$ in speaker cable need to pick up a screwdriver and pull a woofer out of their speakers or the cover off their receiver and look at the wiring inside once.
