How much help did Myanmar provide to hurricane Katrina victims? I'm not expecting a 1 to 1 ratio, but did they even offer?
At some point we have to realize that sending aid to countries ruled by dictators and military juntas is just a waste of said money. The food is confiscated and sold to profit the ruling party. The money is used for anything but aid to the people in trouble.
Time and time again we see the same thing happen.
We see the same rulers left in power or even re-elected.
I'd rather the money be wasted here at home.
You can't compare the charity of one of the poorest countries in the world to us. I read a story (Yahoo?) that said the food was getting to the people. IIRC it had the name of a general on it.
the junta generals are using this as a propoganda opportunity...they are stamping their names on the boxes of donated supplies and setting up photo sessions showing them handing out this food as if it came from these bastards (probably another reason why they want countries to dontate food/water/supplies, but not actual aid workers who can ensure that everything is being distributed fairly)...
The government soldiers were too busy this past weekend ensuring that the polls for some referendum were secure instead of providing assistance to the victims...In some places, the victims were thrown out of their shelters so the voting booths could be setup...
