FlashOut 1.21 is now available for download!

FlashOut is a freeware utility to safely disable and enable Flash for Internet Explorer.
It even eliminates Flash pop-ups.

You can enable and disable Flash without even closing your browser!

It is not a "local proxy", so it does not do any content filtering and does not interfere with your Web surfing.
It is not a plugin, so it does not slow down your browser or take up additional memory.

Download here - 55 KB including the installer wizard. Small and fast, written in VC++.
You can install the new version right over the old one, without uninstalling first.

Screenshot is available.

By disabling Flash, you can still support your favorite Web site (such as Anandtech) and allow regular
banners to load
, but you will not be harassed by the annoying walking talking Flash animations.

Why anyone would want to disable Flash:
[*]Many people find Flash to be extremely annoying and distracting
[*]Flash is rarely used for a legitimate reason, and is usually used in animated ads/banners
[*]Flash loading and initialization slows down your surfing

Instructions:
Simply download the program from the link above and install it using the included Setup wizard.
When you disable Flash, a small cross (x) will be shown in place of a Flash animation.

Features:
[*]Disables Flash in a non-destructive way, with a click of a button.
[*]Allows you to re-enable Flash with a click of a button.
[*]User-friendly and even beautiful.
[*]No annoying prompts from Internet Explorer regarding Flash not being installed.

Guarantee:
I guarantee that are no backdoors or trojans in this program.
It does not collect any information about you or your surfing.
I did my best to make sure that this program is bug-free.

(If I wanted to distribute a virus, it would certainly not be under my username here on Anandtech).

Updates:
1.21:
Put in new icons.

1.2:
Converted the interface to the Windows XP style.

1.1:
Improved the interface even further.

1.0:
Changed the way in which Flash is disabled and enabled (no need to close all Internet Explorer windows).
Packaged the program into a user-friendly installer.

0.62:
Minor interface changes.
Fixed Tab order.

0.61:
Fixed the wrong message shown when Flash is in use.

0.6:
Double-checked that everything works.

0.5:
Started keeping track of updates 🙂

I assume it's more sophisticated than just renaming the flash DLL?

Why don't you try renaming the Flash DLL and find out what happens 😀

Right, the nag screen. Well I'll test it, since flash annoys the living piss out of me.

Just curious, why would someone need this?

To stop the flash ads that pop up in the middle of the page you're trying to read, blare sound at you, and have a close button that's 1 pixel wide.

Nice utility, but if you really want control of how you surf the 'net then the Proxomitron is your friend and it's freeware too. Try it - I guarantee you will love it.

Thanks, but I don't like programs that work as proxies because they interfere with the browser's caching and slow down my surfing 😉 I use AdSubtract when I need real filtering, but my program is just to disable Flash.

what really needs to be done is a program that simple displays a button inplace of the flash object and only plays)downloads) the flash object if you click the button.

I don't mind Flash at all... but I do like this idea.

Yes. This would be idea, but due to the way Flash works, this may not be possible. I'll check it out.

I could've written this in Visual Basic in about 3 hours.
It took 15 hours in Visual C++, but it was good for my future job (which I hope to find sometime soon 🙂)
