Honestly, not like VAC does anything. It only detects client side hooks, not openGL wrappers. I use one for TFC and all Valve does to fix it is move the offsets the wrapper uses around.

My openGL wrapper for TFC is one that shows me bhop speed. That's it.

Edit: There are at least 10 or so TFC made openGL wrappers that work on a Steam install of TFC - vac has detected exactly none of them in any point in time since Steam TFC came out [with VAC]. Period, end of sentence.
The only time where TFC people get caught for using openGL wrappers is when they use one for CS in TFC... apparently autodet and trueaim are just not as imbalancing as a wallhack, but hey..

I have yet to use Steam. Have avoided it thus far like the plague. But why would anyone LIKE to use a program that REQUIRES you to log on to the internet to play a single player game? Granted there are work arounds, it would seem. But still, what a completely irritating concept. If I dont want to patch, or prefer to have the patch as a file not an auto-update, shouldn't I be able to do that?

Of course, like I said, I have a whole '0' experience with it as of yet.

So heres a question: I have a friend with no internet access, whatsoever. He doesnt even have a modem installed in his system. This would actually be the same for my brother. How the heck is he supposed to play the single-player game? Is there a way to authenticate without an internet connection?

 typical response from someone who doesn't have a friggin clue what it takes to design something like Steam.

Looks like someone needs to beat you with a clue stick. I develop software for a living and we don't release buggy ass crap like Steam. We make sure it works properly. Granted some bugs will come up but the amount of problems people are having with steam is completely unacceptable. Perhaps if you knew anything about development, you'd understand this. :)

Wow, you're in software development? Neat. So you should understand that people's FUBAR windows installs WILL inherently bork Steam, along with everything else eventually, too. I haven't ever had one single problem with Steam.

Ever.

Have yourself a :cookie: Just because you haven't had any problems with Steam doesn't mean it's a buggy POS software. Fact of the matter is that it's a piece of junk, plain and simple. It has absolutely nothing to do with fubared window installations.

lol - if it was buggy, it would malfunction on *everyone's* computer. Just because you can't accept the fact that sh|tloads of people haven't ever had problems with Steam doesn't make Steam a piece of crap. Get over your elitist bullsh|t.

Steam sucks! When I try to filter out only HL2 DM games to play it doesn't list such a filter and won't let me make one!

I know, I heard about how you can use the gravity gun to steal the weapons from opposing players!

Well, since an internet connection is one of the requirements for HL2, he will have to get one. Or not play HL2. Pretty simple.

Still no clue, eh Nik? When you learn about software development then you can talk. Steam is buggy, plain and simple. Try doing a search on different forums and you'll see the thousands upon thousands of people that are having problems with steam.

It sounds like you cheated or something though. I doubt they would make a mistake like that.

I call shens. No way in hell have you not had a problem with Steam. Friends is the worst creation ever not to mention Steam used to eat memory like a chinese whore.

I haven't had any problems with steam... Although I hear it used to be horrible, it seems pretty good now.

I have not had a single problem with Steam either, although I don't really like it that much.

Not really. The requirements are listed right on the box. Does he also expect to play if he doesn't have the minimum required video card?

Guess what everybody? A steam message popped up on my pc and asked me to discontinue my account, so I could use my cd key again with a different account. I guess steam Isn't all that bad. It is still annoying to use though.:)

You and all the "thousands upon thousands" are bloody morons. The only internet access you need is for activation. You can play in offline mode, dumbass.

doesnt change the fact that I have to install a modem in my brothers computer, string a phone line across the houose, just to play a single player, that I PAID good money for.

And Daniel, you dont honestly think that there are only very few people out there who run computers without internet access do you? I have 4 systems in my house. 2 of which I have no Internet access to. Why would I have access to all 4?

Computer cant really compete with consoles if an Internet connection is required to game.

There is a fundamental flaw in your argument.

It is specifically based on your ignorance by not factoring business into your point of view.

If we were to assume that Valve is marketing its product to a specific demographic, we must be truthful to ourselves if we are to have insightful disscussion on the topic.

You my friend, are assuming that you are part of Valve's intended market, are you not?

Perhaps you should reevaluate that.
