I'm not saying you did anything wrong. but you seem way too eager to just go out and buy a new copy and create a new account. I know if they screwed me like that, without any reason, and after I payed for the game, I'd be on the phone with them asap trying to get it worked out. And if they did not fix the situation, they would not get any more money from me.

Bingo! Noone who does nothing wrong just goes out and buys the game again the next day.

Yup, I haven't had a problem with steam. I admit I was reluctant to use it at first. It's quite a hassle when you're on 56k trying to move to Steam from Won (lots of downloads) but I gave in after a whlie and I find it quite nice. I haven't recieved many if any problems from Steam.

While I do agree with you that Steam is great (and I too haven't had a single issue) but people don't have much of a choice but to use Steam when they want to play CS Source.

 typical response from someone who doesn't have a friggin clue what it takes to design something like Steam.

Looks like someone needs to beat you with a clue stick. I develop software for a living and we don't release buggy ass crap like Steam. We make sure it works properly. Granted some bugs will come up but the amount of problems people are having with steam is completely unacceptable. Perhaps if you knew anything about development, you'd understand this. :)

Oh BTW: Steam does suck, I went to play HL2 yesterday, ended up having to wait 40 mins for A) Steam to update without my notice and B) Validate my HL2 files ... AGAIN

Awesome, I love having to wait to play a SP game

Wow, you're in software development? Neat. So you should understand that people's FUBAR windows installs WILL inherently bork Steam, along with everything else eventually, too. I haven't ever had one single problem with Steam.

Ever.

Awesome, I love having to wait to play a SP game

1) close steam
2) disconnect ethernet (or release IP if you're dynamic and know wtf you're doing)
3) start steam

voila... offline mode.

Oh, but Steam is so wonderfully designed and is full of great ideas, why would I want to keep it doing from what it's so great at?

Essentially you're saying "Steam is great, give it more credit, but you should turn it off anyways."

Or just configure your firewall to deny steam access to the internet from now on.

No, what I'm saying oh ye of little reading comprehension, is that you're bitching about something not working when there's a well-known alternative process that takes 2 SECONDS to make work.

Yup. Or your hosts file, or something similar. There's lots of ways to get into offline mode.

Have yourself a :cookie: Just because you haven't had any problems with Steam doesn't mean it's a buggy POS software. Fact of the matter is that it's a piece of junk, plain and simple. It has absolutely nothing to do with fubared window installations.
