I didn't want to start another Star Wars thread just for this, but the person who did this did a really great job, and I thought some other fellow nerds would enjoy it as well.

- Of all the things that *didn't* get a retouch with the re-release of the OT back in the day, this was one thing that could have really used it.
It's sort of painful to watch that fight now, you have two old actors, one that can barely see, no fight choreography, and the props they used were absurdly fragile so they had to tap them against each other or they would shatter. There is no way that fight went down the way George Lucas wanted it to.
While the fan version has a slight cringe factor (clearly some anime/fanboy influences) it's infinitely better than what we got.
As for Ep9: I have a weird gut feeling that the series is going to end with Kylo and Rey "returning to the force", maybe after teaming up to defeat Palpatine in the form of a third badguy. This will basically wrap up the Skywalker storyline and open up the series for Disney to do what they wish. Basically no way Ben Solo is making it out of this movie alive.
The more leaks I hear about Ep 9 the more I think the plot is going to be a gigantic mess that pulls all the most ridiculous shit that makes no sense whatsoever. It seems to be setting up a "Emperor Palpatine is back from the dead, his spirit somehow possesses Rey who then fights Kylo Ren who sacrifices himself to kill the Emperor and save the galaxy" finale. The end.
Its painful to watch people completely not get things. That fight wasn't about the physical fight. It was a battle of wills and Obi Won sacrificing himself to put into motion the things that would be necessary for the final confrontation in the throne room in RotJ to occur (the rise of Luke to push Vader to redemption). Sure it was pretty wonky because of technical limitations, but it should not have been some badass lightsaber fight. Obi Won would be no match for Vader in such a fight and would have been killed instantly. Just as Luke would have gotten just murdered by Vader at the end of ESB, but Vader was trying to corrupt Luke and so was toying with him, then dropping the bombshell, and then Luke choosing to sacrifice himself rather than become a pawn of evil.
That fight was more like the battle between Egg Shen and Lo-Pan in Big Trouble In Little China, just you know having lighstabers so that they're not there twiddling their fingers or waving their hands at each other (so that it doesn't look as silly as that - which that works in BTILC because its a silly, ridiculous, over the top movie where the "hero" is a bumbling dumbass).
Its also so it doesn't end up looking like this:
Doing extensive fight choreography like its about a sword fight is dumb and is completely missing the point of the conflicts that are occurring in Star Wars between the characters that have lightsabers. The duel between Rey and Kylo Ren in Force Awakens was actually good because of the fact that it makes sense with the characters. Rey doesn't understand the Force and is just desperately trying to fight off Kylo Ren, who is overcome by his misguided insolent rage (where he thinks he's some ultra badass and letting his ignorance drive him to rage and blind him). Rey is able to match him because neither of them are masters of the Force, but they're in opposite ways (where hers is based on not even knowing about it so she's not studied it and its all intuition, while he has studied it and thinks that should grant him mastery, but its not; the same reason why killing his father didn't elevate him, he's learned and thinks just doing the things is all that's needed, but he's misguided and doesn't understand there's more to it than that, and that's driving him to blind rage which is preventing him from mastering the abilities because he's not even master of himself; they're both driven by emotions).
Now, I don't doubt that the OWK and Vader fight ended up that way by accident. And I think the same might be true with regards to Rey and Kylo Ren, where they end up making something good in spite of their actual intention to make it stupid.
oh god they brought back emporer palpatine?
oh... that would be an interesting twist.. Rey being the bad guy and Kylo being the savior.I'll be OK as long as they don't have Leia flying through space again.
Seriously, I'm not sure what to expect. I hope they nail it, and close out the Skywalker story right, but they could also screw it up as well. I'm not sure how they're going to include Palpatine into this movie, I hope the reason is not too far out there in its plot.
I did read this earlier, and I thought it had some good points on Rey going to (or being tempted) by the dark side.

as if disney is following the comics where Rey + Kylo are twins of Leia/Han solo, and one of them kills the other because darkside.
I wont say which one wins
wait, this is a leak of a date that a trailer is going to drop? wtf. lolLooks like that may have prompted some lips to loosen. Now they're reporting that it will drop monday night during MNF.

Per JJ norms, does a good job obscuring most plot details. The few things picked out, going full bore with the Emperor. New voice line, a throne scene, and looks like an outpost on an ice planetoid then a star destroyers emerges from an ice body. Would like to know the character doing the first dialogue. Ben & Rey still in full toss up as it shows the intro to them fighting on the exterior of the structure while also have them destroy some type of idol of Vader. Carrie at the end gave me chills.
Most people don't get this. I'm excited!Too much analysis. It’s Star Wars man. Pretty much something that’s been around my whole life. I’ll be there for some pew pew pew.
