Yeah, to be honest I doubt I will ever watch these movies again. I've seen the original trilogy so many times I couldn't count, but these movies are going to be pushed into prequel status of semi entertaining to see in the theater, but never need to be seen again.

I'm hearing reports that Disney went ahead and edited the film behind JJ Abrams' back because they didn't like the "feel".

Box Office: ‘Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker’ Suffers Massive 81% Plunge

https://www.forbes.com/sites/travisbean/2020/01/06/box-office-star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-suffers-massive-81-plunge/

also:
While The Force Awakens had raked in $742.2 million by the third weekend and The Last Jedi had scored $517.2 million, The Rise of Skywalker’s total currently sits at a quiet $450.8 million.
So while The Rise of Skywalker has neared $1 billion on the global spectrum, the Disney film’s domestic run has landed with a bit of a thud after just two-and-a-half weeks in theaters.

<Palpatine voice> Excellent... now witness the absolute *meh* of longtime Star Wars fans who no longer care much about Star Wars (aside from the Mandalorian of Course... and maybe a future Obi Wan series/movie please?) </Palpatine voice>

I watched TFA multiple times in theaters then TLJ came out and I no longer cared to see how the sequel trilogy ended....

I liked the Mandalorian though. Rogue One was an entertaining enough telling of how the Death Star Plans were stolen as well.

The Rise of Skywalker making less than TLJ (and perhaps also Rogue One?) well that is what the word schadenfreude was coined for....

Yes another entertaining youtube video from MauLer

The Dead speak...

Seriously the Opening Crawl reveals what should have been a surprise in the movie. Now I'm glad I didn't see the movie, because the leaks were largely accurate... (sadly as well because they convinced me I'd probably be one of the "crazy" people yelling at the screen in the theater if I actually spent money on this shite)

it's a most deliciously, expletive filled, sarcastic spoiler review that gives this movie it's due... the fact that it will make less than the middle movie of this cycle when the 3rd movie of the previous trilogies made more (prior to re-releases) is a strong indication of what is due this shite-show of a movie.

I enjoyed the movied for what it was but I still kept wondering

why would you build such a massive fleet that only had two navigation towers that would allow it to leave?
No kidding, and when they attacked the first one and then found out it was offline why did they not try to destroy it anyways just in case? Also how did they really know that information. None of them even knew about the secret Sith planet and now they know exactly where that tower was and that it had to be destroyed to prevent the ships from leaving the atmosphere so that they could activate their shields or whatever. And isn't that convenient that all those star destroyers were kept in a place where they would be vulnerable for attack. Why were they kept there in that vulnerable state? Palpatine was ready to launch his attack, he should have moved those ships immediately to a place where they could activate their shields. Hell even if they were in space exposed it is not like anyone would have launched an attack against them, that would have been suicide. Also the Sith planet was so secret and secluded it is not likely that anyone would have found that fleet anyways. Another thing, why did they bring those dumb space horses on the attack? Did they really think they would need them? They have all those ships to attack the tower with their lasers but they thought people on horseback would work better? Then they land on the destroyer and ride the horses to the other tower. Couldn't they have just landed closer to the tower and walked to where they needed to go? Also Finn knew exactly where to put the explosives on that huge start destroyer. He was just a storm trooper. How does he have all the knowledge of everything you would need to know about how to destroy that system? It would be like some private in the army knowing exactly how to take out a Navy aircraft carrier. This movie had way too many convenient plot points to make any sense.
Well it’s easy to understand why the ships needed a navigation beacon and there was only two available.

You see originally each Star Destroyer would have had its own redundant navigation system but budget cuts after the loss at Endor meant they would forgo the individual systems on each ship. They didn’t want to retrain their personnel either so they fed each ship a redundant navigation feed from an external source and made it look like the original internal nav feed.

This would have been fine if the fleet had launched from around the imperial ship yards at Corellia which had a benign environment but Boeing decided to move their management from Seattle where engineering was done to Chicago err Palpatine moved management to Exegol from Corellia where the engineering was done. So there was no one to explain the dangers of using a one fault tolerant system designed for navigation in benign space to using it for the entire fleet around the dangerous environment of Exegol before the decision was made.

At any rate they will be teaching this management and engineering failure scenario at the Imperial Society of Professional Engineers for quite some time.
I liked when he sabered the intern for wanting to be as good a pilot as Luke Skywalker.

”If you want to fly like him you can die like him”. :p

Not seen this yet (having a baby slightly limits cinema trips), but seen spoilers... Why the **** did they just take the original Star Destroyer design and shove a Death Star laser inside of it? Not even a new design to justify "oh, it's designed to route all power to the weapon"? Did ILM run out of time or something, that they had to do a kitbash that lazy? Take Impstar model from Rogue One, scale up laser cannon, paste in where the hangar was, hit render and go for lunch?

You forgot the copy/paste 1,000 times step but yes that appears to be the case.

The whole sequel trilogy was just "Bigger! Bigger! Faster! Faster!"
They never had an overall plan for the trilogy and while both directors really tried to tie things back to the original movies (I actually thought the film quality, camera techniques and environments were excellent) neither director had much understanding of the larger Star Wars universe...

We ended up with a poorer version of the Dark Empire story-line from a producer who claimed she didn't even know such a story existed.

I left this trilogy experience hating Kathleen Kennedy, thinking Rian Johnson was a moron, but actually having a bit more respect for JJ Abrams. I think Abrams really tried... He just isn't that good, and playing stupid games with different directors didn't help anyone.

This might be the second worst main Star Wars movie ever. So bad.

I’ve seen the outlines they’ve released for all the other alternate scripts and none of them looked particularly good either. IMHO the “best” way to have ended the series was to follow up on the “Rey is nobody” and force-user broom boy angles from the last movie. The “Rise of Skywalker” Could have been a mass uprising of force sensitive nobodys who all assumed the “Skywalker” name as an alias. It would have been a natural pivot away from the Solo and Skywalker families and democratized the force concept of the series and been a natural pivot to new characters. Instead we got “the force is stored in the testicles” line again with Grandad Palpatine. .

Saw it last night. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. I do have some questions though.

When did Jedi's attain the power to heal others?

Leia was never trained as a Jedi, so how was she training Rey?

How did Rey get the knowledge of the force lightning without training for it?

Why didn't she use this lightning to end Palpatine?

Is Palpatine a ghost or alive?

How did he steal Rey and Ren's force?

Why were the Ewok's even shown?

Princess Leia's death, while sad in real life, was a little awkward in the movie. Just calling out his name made her die?

Why did Rey go back to Tantoine? Then decided to call herself Skywalker.

Yeah, I have to watch this again later today and reprocess everything, but things seemed kinda rushed and not explained enough. All in all, not a bad movie, just was expecting a bit more. Hopefully an extended version will be released later on.

They had 2.5 hours to try and conclude the story which lacked development from the beginning. There are so many plot holes and illogical decisions that you really just have to turn your brain off. The force has really just become a plot device to get the writers out of sticky situations. They made it malleable to the point where it's sci-fi magic.

Surprisingly I liked it less than The Last Jedi. And I really did not like the Last Jedi.
The story is horrible and theres way too much time wasted on plot points that turn out to be meaningless. None of the action sequences inspired me. They wasted 4 characters with massive potential. Lando was a joke. C3P0 was a joke. It was a horrible conclusion to a messy trilogy. Its still not as bad as the prequels, but the prequels were terrible and they aged poorly. They kept trying to tug at my heartstrings and it was just irritating. I literally felt no emotions the entire time. Just watching these boring, stupid characters go thru the motions so we can get the franchise wrapped up and over with.

Sincerely hope all these actors go on to do bigger and better things with their careers. Sincerely hope somebody kidnaps JJ Abrams and we never hear from him again. I also hope Disney doesn't fuck up the Mandalorian.

I'm not sure we still need spoilers at this stage but to respect what you started..

When did Jedi's attain the power to heal others?
As it's all magic space wizards this wasn't that far out there. Out of all the issues this movie had, this one was pretty low on the list.

Leia was never trained as a Jedi, so how was she training Rey?
They mention in the movie that Luke trained her, but she walked away before completing some odd final trial. I guess she gave herself a promotion after Luke was gone.

How did Rey get the knowledge of the force lightning without training for it?
I guess we're supposed to believe there's a genetic trait? I would have said magic space wizards but she did lay waste to a ton of people with the shot.

Why didn't she use this lightning to end Palpatine?
Movie gotta movie?

Is Palpatine a ghost or alive?
Alive. The movie states he didn't die after all.. which is odd.. Rather than continue his Empire I guess we're led to believe he decided go into hiding and made the First Order and a bunch of super ships.

How did he steal Rey and Ren's force?
Cause he's evil like that. Magic space wizards know no limits.

Why were the Ewok's even shown?
The entire sequels were one big "remember.." effort to make people nostalgic for what they loved when they were younger. One of the reasons why this shit flopped so bad story wise.

Princess Leia's death, while sad in real life, was a little awkward in the movie. Just calling out his name made her die?

At this point they've yadda yadda yadda over anything that might make sense so screw it. If you're still on board with the story at this point it doesn't matter.. I'd also point out that Leia's mother died because her boyfriend decided to go evil so why not?

Why did Rey go back to Tantoine? Then decided to call herself Skywalker.
They went full circle!!!!! It's the most amazing ending that could possibly happen.. I mean. The good guys won a battle. What more do you need?
