Not sure if there is one, but i'm looking for a trial version. Can't find it on the website.

Go to Del Taco. You get a free 2 day trial with their largest size drink. You can get up to 4 of them, and you'll get an extra 2 days, for a total of 10 days.

Seriously, this is probably the worst-launched game ever.

Almost every time I zone, I get "Server not responding". It eventually goes, but it's taken up to 5 minutes sometimes.

Now, i'm 561/561 in the queue to log in. Did they like seriously underestimate the number of people who wanted to play? This is terrible coming from a company with two other MMOs under their belt.

You must not have tried to log in any time in the past 5 hours.

I just logged in now and went straight in.

What I would like to know though, after they changed the char select screen, one of them has a starfleet like symbol next to his name, wth is that about?

What's all this bitching about a que? I've never ever seen one, at all. I just click engage, click my char, click play and go.

Next to my char, a Science Officer, it's a Starfleet symbol with a blue center piece. What color is it?

There you go. It's an indicator to let you know what char is what profession. I'd imagine a fed eng. guy would have a gold symbol.

Lt Grade 4 currently after a couple of hours.... and now we're seeing a two hour downtime for maintenance.

Enjoying the immersion and the ship combat immensely. Several scary moments including a few frantic fights against Orion raiders.

Finding the leveling to be quite challenging so far and really unsure of what way I want to go shipwise. I am definitely more of a Cruiser/Escort man and I have put in my skills towards more generic skills such as ... naming escapes me but ship armour/energy use/maneuverability skills and some basic phaser/guns damage increase skill as I am bound to use phasers in some form or another.

Is there any good resource to help me make my decision on Cruiser Vs. Escort?

For some weird reason, my fed eng is now also displaying a bagde at the log in screen.

and they really need to update when you get a new ship so it has a default layout for that tier of ship, and not the upper default of the previous tier.

@Lupi:
Care to post some pics of what you talk for the ones of us that didn't get in the game yet?

Using a Del Taco code, I tried the game for 2 days this weekend. The only MMO I play is Eve Online, so I come from a game where PVP is everywhere and there are pretty siff death penalties.

So far, I find that STO runs poorly on my system, the controls are not that great and the content is not too inspiring. I'm just playing solo now, I'll have to try grouping.

Reached Lt Cmdr Grade 3 last night and have hooked up my Tier 2 Cruiser with 3 Disruptor Arrays MkIV and 1 front Quantum Torpedo MkIII. My distruptors are boosted by a nice +12? (12 or 15) Tactical Post which really does help me pack the punch and a half.

Using High Yield I a lot. With a 30s cooldown it is a monster and just demolishes targets once the shielding is down. I am tempted to replace one of my Disruptor Arrays with a Quantum torpedo for the rear. Autofire on both fore and aft torpedo launchers matched with High Yield I should be quite a lethal combination.

For my Engineering Officer (Lt in an Lt slot), he has A Shield Penetration skill which I am finding to be of some use as well as Emergency Power to Weapons. I am going to swap him out for a new Engineer though, I am going to grab one which has Emergency Power to Shields I and Reverse Shield Polarity I to take the most advantage of my extreme shielding abilities.

I am going to look into some more Captain skills too. Warp Core Training and Shield Maintenance mainly just to make better use of my energy and my massive shielding abilities.

As for consoles I am not sure that I would need such a massive EPS Power Relay for my 2 Quantum Torps Build and could really replace these engineering consoles with 2 turn speed consoles to help give me a bit more manueverability to get both torpedos on target.

Emitters might be the way for my Captains Science skills and Science consoles. Any benefit to Polarise Shields skill would be fantastic really but there doesn't seem to be much information in this area.

To point out... using my potentially already gimped and most likely not totally effective configuration I was able to hit 3rd place in a Fleet Action where the enemies were all +2 to me. This included going into groups of 4-5 Neg'Vhar Battleships and facing off against Klingon Dreadnaughts.

Personally, I might run a 4 Beam setup (with EPS flow regs and +respective beam Tact console) and a Beam/Torp, Beam/Torp loadout just switching when necessary. Combining the Beam setup with a Beam-type Tactical Officer with Overload or Fire At Will (to help dish out the goodies in Fleet Actions as even Quantum Torps tend to either impact on shields or hit a target too late to be of much use)

You don't have to swap out your eng if he doesn't have one skill you want, you can just retrain them at sol.

I use torps front and rear; rather nice when someone gets past you on your side and starts to head to your rear so all you have to do is waggle your pointing a bit and launch a salvo of torps.

I haven't looked around about it much yet, but does everyone get the same base model of a class tier when they advance? If so can you just go to the customization place and have it swapped to another model of that tier?

A little weapon advice, phasers are good. I had noticed a couple times while playing that for some reason my shields would just drop. Apparently the secondary bonus ability of phasers is a 5% chance to disable a system, and if that system happens to be shields it causes them all to fall.

Also there was a math thread on the forum, it was mainly about lack of turn rate on cruisers, but it seems items which just have a small % add or subtract ability when compared to another item with a different ability isn't that good when considering how the games hard code formulas handle it.

When it get to the point where I have 4 forward weapon slots, think I will stick 2 of them with torps. While a torp use will cause a global cooldown on all torp launchers (let's say 6 seconds) it's still less than the cooldown to reuse an individual launcher.

For BO skills, I have my lt eng with shield polarity (real nice) and emergency power to eng, my other eng with emergency power to wep, tac with high yield, and science with jam sensors (a rather nice one when dealing with multiple contacts as you effectively remove one for over 10 seconds).

Lupi when I was running one for and one aft torp launcher, they shared the cooldown. It was exactly the same as a single tube's cooldown (the, what, 12 second cooldown?). I trained my primary Engineering officer to have emergency power to shields and reverse shield polarity.

I also found I have a fondness for Plasma weapons, especially plasma torps. High Yield 1 gives you a heavy plasma torp that does 5000+ damage and a chance to set the target on fire. The fire even goes through shields and damages the hill directly. I'm running a fwd dual disrupter bank mkV (+acc), fwd plasma array mk IV, rear plasma array mkIV (+crit) and a rear disrupter array mk IV (+crit), fwd plasma torp mk IV and photon minelayer mk IV.

4 Disruptor T2 Cruiser is lethal. I am using a Dual Disruptor Beam Array mounted for with a normal Disruptor Beam Array for maximum shield penetration when closing in on a target. By the time I reach 8km, most front shields have crumbled into nothingness and my two Disruptor Beam Arrays mounted in the Aft section provide some major beatdown when I open up my broadside. Even with maximised power on weapons and Fire At Will, I am struggling to take down heavier hulls such as the Battleship Hulls, Cruisers still drop fairly swiftly. I am not sure whether a Quantum Torpedo in one slot would help too much as after the initial volleys during closing penetrate the enemies' shields, I am typically using my broadside to put an end to the threat. Quantum's in fore would reduce my shield penetration effectiveness on the close down and I rarely have my aft showing to the enemy.

I am finding the levelling up to be quite hard and rather dismayed that as soon as I hit the next tier, I can pick up much better weapons straight away and not need to change until the next tier. (at Lt Cmdr I can pick up MKIV's straight away, I'd rather pick up Mk III's at Lt Cmdr 1 and Mk IV's at Lt Cmdr 5 or 6. It would keep things a little fresher.)

Performance wise, it looks quite naff and runs like a dog on my PC. Poorly optimised it seems.

Ust finished the two quest where you go back in time to stop the augment experiments. Had to drop the second one the first time I tried as it seems there is a bug if you start the second before turning in the first. But I wasn't reoffered the second till I gained another level. First gives some rather nice ltc ground rewards and seconds is ship items.

I noticed when selecting my reward they now said bound when picked up. Pretty sure all rewards up till then had still been bound when equipped: wonder if this was a recent patch change or if it only applies to rare quest rewards?

Cooldowns on weapons seem a bit odd. I swapped out my rear torp with a mine slot to try it, and if I fire the mine first I can then immediately fire my forward torp. If I. fire the torp first, I get a global c/d on the mines.
