And people wonder why I say PvP should not exist in PvE-centric games. All it does is serve to ruin game balance for PvE.

Well, unfortunately STO is neither. It's PVP is horribly broken, and as an overall MMO it fails. The SP vibe this game gives makes me feel more alone than when i cry myself sleep every night.

Game had some potential.. but it fails in every single area. Not one thing about this game shines. I gave cryptic a second chance, but i was wrong.. oh so wrong.

I just wait for them to declare this game dead as subscriptions start disappearing quicker than a girls virginity.

Take a look at the forums for this game.. I've never seen so many people in mutual hatred over a MMO.

BTW, I'm totally cool with a PVE game that has almost no PVP aspect whatsoever. I lost many years of my life to EQ.

Quite frankly I used this thread in it's early days to track the progress of the game and decided that "I loved Starfleet Command and this plays similarly, I'll get it and if it lasts me a month then that's all well and good."

So far joining on that premise I am more than happy. I am dismayed at their choice of how weapons work though with their Fore and Aft style system. Starfleet Command was unforgiving with it's weapon angles but offered a much more tactical and restricted choice in that regard.

It also feels like a spacebar mash quite often which is not that fun for my spacebar. I would be happy with slowing down combat a bit, increasing cooldowns and making it less of a spacebar spam.

Anyway... Cmdr Grade 10.... soon to be Captain :)

I just made captain and bought both a Long-Range Science Vessel and Exploration Cruiser - I'm dual skilling.

I haven't flown my Galaxy class yet, but the Intrepid turns on a dime and science ships out-tank anything, imo. She pays for it though, two phaser salvos and I have ZERO weapons power left.

I'm happy with it, though.

BTW, has anybody figured out why Cryptic's non-canon designs (Envoy, Noble, Discovery, Cochrane, Vesper, Excaliber) are all fugly?

Is anyone piloting an escort? I'm wondering if an engineer would make a good compliment to that ship?

Might want to not do that, from what I understand if you're a Science captain flying an Cruiser or Escort ship you lose out on some abilities. So mixing up captain types with ship types, you'll be gimping yourself. I'm not sure what you lose out on since I'm still trying to grasp everything and understand what every acronym means.

While they have larger arcs than in SFC, they make up for it abit by reducing the number of weapon points you can use. Just imagine if you had something like the sovereign class in SFC with it's near 2 dozen phasers and dozen torpedo tubes.

From what I understand, mixing it up a bit is an interesting way to go and almost always effective.

I did a load of kicking butt in my Crusier as a Tactical Officer mainly because I could draw fire, stay alive AND dish out the hurt with B:FAW and HYT :)

Got to Tier 4 with my Cruisers and I have to say I am not enjoying it too much yet. Just havent got into that right groove.

Levelling an Engineer class for an Escort Ship now. Should be fun in a different way.

I'm not saying they didn't - however despite players through both titles' betas/launches (CO and STO) begging for more content and more progression, Cryptic fails to come through yet again.

And there were RA's 3 days after retail launch.

I'd probably play the game despite this except for the lack of any sort of player communication.

Never played an MMO in my life where players are so unwilling to talk as in STO

Maybe you need to activate the universal translator.

Yeah I read a few posts about doing this limits your leveling abilities, but the counter balance effect of and escort ship with an engineer looked like it made up for it.

I bought the game because a good friend is playing it so I kind of went in cold feet. I read up on forums and other websites for a good 4 hours and couldn't really find anything that said this was a horrible choice. That said I found it difficult (I know it's a new game) to find any in-depth info.

Anyway I'm having fun so far. I haven't played an MMO in 2-3 years after EQII/WoW because the grind fest makes me feel like I'm working. So far I haven't felt that in ST.

I won't disagree that there's a general lack of content, but I don't think you can expect anyone to design a game around people with no lives.

Steam says I have 40 hours in STO and I'm only Commander 5. In STO those 40 hours probably translate to about 30 hours worth of mission content (and 10 hours worth of "/emote khan"ing). Someone who made it to RA in three days must have played nonstop. They probably saw 60+ hours worth of content in that 72 hour period. 60+ hours is pretty good for an MMORPG that doesn't feature much grinding. If you've spent 72 hours in WoW, you've probably done 68 hours worth of grinding and 4 hours worth of actual interesting mission content.

I played the game for 12ish hours over the long weekend.

Bad graphics.

Terrible missions that involve you flying or running all over the place to find "5" of the same thing.

You need to run all over the main starbase to talk to people which takes forever for no reason.

As an MMO, the communication tools are terrible. Might as well be a solo game for the most part.

yeah, the coms involving missions are terrible. after a couple getting you to know the place where you have to physically walk around and see the quest givers, they are then available to you anywhere in the galaxy solely by pressing a button and then they come to you. god we really don't need more of that in mmos.

Especially when they don't always work. I had 3-4 missions available to me from the CO of DS9, but he's missing from my "Hail Starfleet" window.

The "clipping" in the game is terrible - I'm always 1/2 in the ground or buildings. You also quite often get stopped from moving in what looks like open ground. Spin the camera as much as you want, you can't see what is blocking you.

I've clipped a couple of times, but nothing moving a nudge forward didn't fix, and I've never been stuck before.

You say the graphics are 'bad' too, care to elaborate since your issues are mainly graphically based? What are your specs?

I'm running an 9800GT 1 Gig, Windows XP system, Athlon X2 4600 and 2 gigs of RAM. With the exception of Crysis "full", I can run most modern games no issue.

Characters are "blocky" - you can see sharp edges all over the place, planets are cartoonish.

When you walk or run around, the animations are stilted.

Ship graphics and space graphics are lacking detail. I play Eve Online as well and the background graphics are much nicer looking for that game.

Only 2 gig of system ram, yuck.

Graphics look good on my high end 7. Even with lots of sliders dropped on my macbook pro it looks decent. Go to advanced and turn the sliders up all the way. BTW that 2 gigs of ram will stutter like crazy if you turn the textures up though.
