More thoughts:

Still quite buggy with the new patch. Culling errors (a bit over zealous), positional errors, etc. Connie has received a decent buff and I no longer cower when a couple of Hornets start coming after me. The Sabre is a pretty nice ride, but it has teething issues. Lots of cockpit reflections (worse than the Avenger used to be), overshooting when maneuvering, and insufficient power even for its stock loadout. If you run down the capacitors on the repeaters you'll find it unresponsive to maneuver as the thrusters run lower on power while the repeaters recharge. The new phsycialized EVA system has trouble transitioning physics grids smoothly.

Still a ways to go, but I'm having fun in general. I can't imagine going back to the old Crusader now that I've seen this. Really enjoying it.

This is why I'm going to stay out of the PTU for a week or so. It's a huge update and I figured I could wait for the first round of bugs. Plus.. I didn't get an invite. lol

When you go to PTU, you can usually cheat by copying the data folder of your live game over into the same spot as your Test folder cutting out a lot of redundant downloading and only patching what is needed. However, it's not recommended in case something doesn't get patched correctly you might have issues that no one else has. Even once you have the Test folder going, the 2.2.0a patch was still a full download again. I expect they'll push these almost every night until release, so it's a lot of downloading.

Good times are ahead for all. I think CIG is doing a great job keeping things interesting.

Edit: Took this screen shot today. Such a gorgeous engine:

It is not a Sabre, for sure.

I think that it is a Constellation.

You can see the Sabre in his Yela clip from previous page.

So I tried dual sticks for the first time tonight. I immediately fell in love, and this was with a crappy x52 stick. Now I gotta get a 2nd T-16000M and pedals. Screw you guys for getting me to spend more on gear lol. :p

I don't think I'm going to mess with the pedals. I've been able to config my dual t16000m's to do everything I need. I'd start with those first and see if you really need the pedals.

Nice, isn't it? I really like pedals. It lets me set forward / backward strafe to my feet so I don't have to deflect the stick forward all the time.

Personal preference and all that.

They also sound as amazing as they look!

BTW...has anybody tried the Mantis now that they've changed the overheat values?

Kinda cool....they stick out far enough forward on the Sabre cockpit that you get to see them rotate.

Yeah forward and backwards strafe/thrust is what the pedals will be used for. I could manage without them but I think I would really enjoy having the pedals. I am using the 2nd stick's Y axis to do vertical strafe. With the primary stick handling pitch on the Y axis, it is easy to remember and act on as both are "up/down" controls.

That's exactly how I'm doing it....for the same reason - it took almost no time for me to learn the controls because it clicked immediately in my brain.

Pull back on the primary Y - nose goes up.
Pull back on the secondary Y - ship goes up.

Twist secondary right - roll right
Twist secondary left - roll left

4 mantises mounted on a Sabre, each holding 30 mm ammo instead of 20 mm. Appears to be a bug, but still... holy crap.

edit: lols didn't realize this was the same vid as above

I'm probably asking for too much....but it would be very cool to see the barrels start to glow red as they overheat and then fade back to black as they cool.

One of my favorite FPS games, Hard Reset, did this very well with a shot gun. It was a cool effect.

Watch the gun at about the 15:30 to 16 minute mark of this video:

That makes perfect sense. I can always seen the heat bar up in my hud, but a real, physical sign of how the weapons were would help. Especially if it allows you to keep your focus. ie not have to look at the HUD because you can tell by the weapons themselves.

Chopped together some video of the new more dense Yela asteroid field. No idea why there's a black screen at the end. Probably messed up a setting in my movie editor. Only used it for GoPro vids here and there.

much better. in the current PU Yela looks way to small to have enough gravity to retain a belt. It looked like the size of a small town.

Yeah, in the 2.0-2.1 builds it was too small to have enough gravity to even become round. Right now it looks (to my rough eyeball scale) about the size of Ceres.

I thought my Connie and I were friends. :(

Hahaha.... You must have been lagging with the server, and I bet it dropped you through the localize phyics plain of your ship during the transfer from seating because of the lag (as it continued to calculate the ship's pre-lag movement, but kept your positions in X,Y,Z at the time you exited the seat and saw it was no longer within the ship's location, and then when it reconnected your location and the ship as it updated your momemtum, and realized you should still be within the same space as the connie, that is when it rammed back into you).

They might need to change the way they perform the transfers between localized physics zones and have specifically defined functions that are triggered on certain events (i.e. when moving through an "open hatch/doorway") as opposed to simply being within a coordinate box.

You HAVE to submit that to CIG. That's less than 30 seconds and would make a fine clip to show on AtV...because that's just hilarious.

I submitted it to the community hub. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think you're right. What had been happening before this clip is that the servers were having extreme lag from hitting "use" to something actually happening. So, when I had first sat down in the seat everything was decent, but I couldn't see all the panels because my character's body was twisted and out of alignment with where my head should be. I got up, tried again, it got worse. I got up again, then hit use to sit down. This time it took over 30 seconds to kick in and I must've moved some. The animations didn't start from the right place and even though I was registered as "in the chair" (hence you see the panels lit up) I was wrapped around the railing by the turret. When it released me, I think we got what you described. Cracked me up when it happened and before we could talk about it on the server (another ship was nearby and someone else was onboard my Connie trying to stand up from the sitting area couch) the server crashed (probably from the built up lag).

Ah, good times in the PTU.

Edit: I still have no idea why it rammed me. You can tell that it was the ship that accelerated and not my body going back for whatever reason. Even though someone else was onboard, he was having trouble getting up from the couch and there's no way he could've gotten in the seat in that amount of time. Also my HOTAS throttle was down when I died. I really think it wanted rid of me.

fwiw, similar things have happened to me dozens of times in my avenger. It's almost as if the ship is too small for the person so you're almost always clipping something when you get in. The slightest wrong movement, and bam, you're ejected and your ship is moving away from you. I've hit 'use' to get into the pilots seat and simply been tossed out so many times I lost count.
