I'm pretty sure that internal ship defense mechanisms like you were talking about were mentioned in one of the Dev chats. They didn't really imply that is was a deployable machine gun a la Aliens but they did say you could use internal hard points for ship defenses like machine gun turrets in hallways, etc.
Yeah, I'm pretty stoked :)

I would be fine with remote operation instead of AI guided fire. I know CR has ruled out weaponized Robots if I recall earlier discussions.

Yeah, I remember that too. Although, there has been some backtrack on militarized drones so that might change in the future too.

Stoked. That's what I am.

Me to. The hanger is cool and the AC is fun to jump in and try different stuff like racing or the Vanduul swarm but the fps module will be nice to try out. A change of pace.

I missed the latest PU sign up. I thought I registered in time but I never got the email. It kind of sucked because I had to reset some config files because I already switched my launcher to the PU setting. Thankfully someone on the forum ran into the same issue and posted how to switch back so I could launch the game like normal.

Did anyone here get a chance to try out the latest PU tryout? If so how was it?

This FPS Demo Analysis vid is excellent if you haven't seen it yet:

I agree with the creator...I figured FPS would just be some add-on, after thought in the SC world. But it could very well be better than any standalone AAA FPS title.

I'm looking forward to trying it out in a few weeks at SxSW.

Really looking forward to trying out the FPS element. Hopefully it's tight like Crysis itself was and not loose like ARMA (even tho ARMA is more realistic). I just hope they get the controls down.

Looks pretty cool. I'd like to see a little less HUD obstruction, especially at the top. I've never been a big fan of "inside the helmet" HUD views. I know it's more realistic, but realism doesn't always equal better. It's one of the things that really annoyed me about Metro when you had to put the gas mask on.

The mechanics are looking pretty good. I have a feeling they're leveraging a lot of the built-in FPS functionality of CryEngine.

It's a balance between immersion and fun. Hopefully the SC finds it. Interesting that the HUD goes away when you aim down the sights......

With all the Alpha/Beta testing from all the backers... I don't see how they don't nail all the modules down. The backers not testing and waiting for the end product will be just blown away imo.

Knowing how CIG works... I'm sure you will able to turn on and off ... enlarge/reduce... rearrange HUD views for example. Maybe even have a 2nd monitor display all that info.

When they first announced it would be first person I knew it was going to be a huge part of the game. It's not just an add-on, it's a fundamental part of the game, and that's awesome! You just can't have awesome space exploration without the first person element. Imagine finding a derelict ship or station and landing to investigate, finding all the crew killed and there's a crazy monster on the loose. You could experience a mini Alien Isolation within SC. And that's just one example. So many possibilities!

That would be great. My main concern (as an explorer at heart) is having to walk through these gorgeous environments through the filter of a helmet.

I feel EXACTLY the same. It's the first-person element that is missing from so many space sims. The biggest draw for me is the exploration aspect, and the fact that I can turn around in the cockpit, stand up and walk out the door of my ship onto the planet surface below - all without breaking immersion - is one of the biggest reasons I am a supporter of the scope of vision with this game.

I'll be curious to see if there is a SP mode for the FPS module. Something like Vanduul Storm but on the ground?

I'm hoping for a batch of passes for all modules. My current understanding is that each one is $5 for non-original backers. That's not a ton of money, but it would be easier to buy an all-in-one.

I would just buy a cheap 'BETA' package deal. Hopefully by the end of the year BETA will be up and running strong.

Cant wait to have my friends join me on my Connie/Corrack or 890 Jump and do something like the Connie commercial below. I have a gut feeling I wont be able to get my GF to call me Captain. :) My best friend will make a great Engineer. My GF will be playing Science Officer. My son will be a turret gunner until he's a little older for a more advanced slot.

They said they planned on it. The idea is that it will work the same way, and be in the game itself as a training simulator (just like how you could jump in the simulators in the Wing Commander series back in the day).

Is that my AMX-1 repair droid in the lower right hand corner of your pic? I've been waiting so long for it and now it kind of reminds me of a lame Wall-e rip off.

Had another shot of interest in a space sim now that the sour taste of X rebirth has finally washed away but wow a ship costs $45? Is this one of those micro transaction games or will No Man's Sky be better?

I cant speak for 'No Man's Sky'. I'm an old school Wing Commander / Privateer fan from the early to mid 1990's. Star Citizen is the spiritual successor to that classic series. I have not played any space sims since... considering Chris Roberts is the lead Developer with Star Citizen, I've upgraded my desktop to Star Citizen 'capable' and active in Alpha testing it as of today. For the longest time I thought upgrading my computer beyond the ability to play 'Baldur's Gate Enhanced' would be pointless since I had 10 years of catching up on GOG games... then Chris Roberts had to ruin it by developing Star Citizen. *sighs*

The $45 comes with the 'single player' version of Star Citizen (Squadron 42 being developed in Britain) which will be a massive endeavor within itself... you will then have the option to port that character into the Persistent Universe (PU) for that same $45.

No one knows how much the 'retail' version will go for but a lot of Backers are assuming it will go for a lot more than $45 and you will not receive a 'starter ship' or the single player 'Squadron 42' for example.

As a pledge bonus of $45 you get a starter ship in the form of your Aurora MR. Some things may be shortcutted by a 'micro-transaction' but everything in the game can and will be earned through... mining... bounty hunting... working for missions for the federation... pirating... discovering artifacts... among other ways still being debated among the Developers and the Backers with UECs (United Earth Credits)

Pledging for things like 'future concept ships' will "probably" still be active assuming there is still interest in doing so to keep the programmers paid to expand the universe.

You will also have the option for that same $45 to download the entire Star Citizen Universe and create your own private server to play amongst your friends/family but advances in your 'private universe' will not transfer to the PU.

Keep in mind... everything I just posted can change today/tomorrow.

This younger 'Instant Gratification' generation.... *shakes head in pity*

So that is not the AMX-1 repair droid?
And don't talk down to me about being patient. I've been waiting patiently longer than most.
