D'oh. If they don't get this by the time summer's out, we should go on a frenzy :D.
Then again, I'm sure many of you have PM'd the mods, Jason, or Anand and I don't think PMing them over and over will help since Anand already agreed to this ;). I *guess* the only choice is to sit and wait.

Maybe they are going to launch the forum along side a new section of AT for reviews of programming languages, etc.? The only other reasons I can think of are they feel that there are enough good forums covering this topic out there already and concerns over additional resources need to support a new topic (storage, processing, bandwidth, mods, etc.). Think of all of the code that will get posted, back and forth, quoted, etc. Maybe they are even worried about having to police for malicious code, there are after all a lot of youngsters and noobs on AT who can become easy pray to @ssholes.

That would be nice, but in that case:

1) I'd rather have the forum now and the other other stuff later, and

2) They could just say so, and everyone would shut up (at least for a while :) ).

Theoretically, they're already supporting this topic now. I can't see it requiring enormous amounts of extra bandwidth (compared to, say, the volume in ATOT and/or P&N), and I wouldn't think that separating the topics currently in the "software" forum would make moderating them much easier, not harder. And again, if the bottleneck is that they will need another moderator or two, why not ask for volunteers?

This is a legit concern, but there's nothing stopping people from posting dangerous code/links to WinXP keygenerators/links to kiddie porn/whatever in the forums now. In fact, in a dedicated programming forum, someone would quickly point out that "hey, this is a script that will delete your hard drive; don't run it" or whatever.

Yeah, you're right.

So Anand, what's the deal? Huh? HUH?

I think you're just too lazy to:

1) click New Forum

2) fill in the forum topic field

3) click Create

Yeah, sounds real tough. Need a hand?

Sue I think there should.

There should also be a separate forum for gaming given it's such a big part of what many enthusiasts buy PCs for. Residing in software doesn't do it enough justice.

I also think the forums should be extended in length eg have more forum topics per page as things fall off the first page very quickly given the activity and sheer numbers of Anandtech forums - there's simply so many posts created and comparatively little time for each to be sufficiently viewed.

Way OT, but you can set the posts/page in your personal preferences. Raising the default can make life difficult for people still stuck on slow modem connections.

Hmm....maybe right now they're working on syntax highlighting for the multitude of languages (VB.NET, C#.NET, C++, HTML, Java, etc).

will this ever happen? They made a politics & news forum with less than half the support that this has gotten.

And isn't this place called anandTECH? What kind of tech site gives more support to people wanting to discuss politics&news over people wanting to discuss programming??
