It reportedly just got another delay. You'll need to wait one Q more according to

Hardwaretimes. I reckon Intel needs your diligent push for it to keep up its cadence more than AMD.
Hahaha another delay? It may as well not exist. Hmm okay I'll try! Wait, what is Intel's launch cadence now? Seems like "never" or "very late".
So again AMD started work on Zen 5 at least 5 years before it will come out.
That is pretty good news, assuming they can get Zen5 out by 2023 (if Zen4 is a 2022 CPU now, I have my doubts, but we will see). And AMD was clever enough to layer their development projects starting with Zen2.
As for the development cadence - AMD is a relatively small company. They don't have the manpower to push so many products in parallel, I guess.
Well they have had Zen2, 3, and 4 in development simultaneously, more-or-less. On a design level, I think they've managed their teams quite well.
TBH, I think they took this long because they saw the mobile market exploding in growth due to the pandemic and people buying up laptops. I still can't find laptops I want without being placed on a long waiting list or having an order canceled. I'm not sure what the 2021 outlook is in regards to COVID, but it isn't looking bright thus far.
That is also possible. Resources may have been directed towards extending the shelf life of Zen2 products to meet market demand outside of server/workstation/desktop (notably, consoles and mobile).
Tell you what, let's have a look at the packaging dates on Vermeer chips and see what's what. Also does anyone have some data from the lid of their July-launch Matisse chips from last year? I'd be interested in knowing how many of those were packaged in March/April 2019. My two Matisse chips have had their lids sullied so I can't read them. Not sure if I posted everything printed before I installed my first one.
