Regarding 1600AF hurting sales of 2600, this is a very small sample size (sales numbers of last week for one of Germany's biggest online sellers of CPUs), but Mindfactory's target audience should know better than this.

2600: 560
1600: 80
1600AF: 80

Doesn't look like a problem for AMD at all.

I was talking mostly about 2600 and 1600 vs the 3600. For a while it was something like this:
$100 1600, $150 2600 and $200 3600, since the 3600 lowered in price getting the 2600 makes no sence and i can see there the 3600 is the most sold AMD on mindfactory today. But at the end it will depend on pricing, not sure about the prices on mindfactory.de
It could be a supply issue too, as 1600AFs are harder to get.

Based on what? The only halfway-decent numbers we have typically come from mindfactory.de, and as much as I love getting their data, it doesn't tell us all that much. Plus recent data is skewed thanks to Covid-19. Regardless, we have no idea what's left in the channel and what is fresh product unless someone buying 2600s shows us some dates from the lid.
The 2600 is widely avalible all over the world and i can still get it from local and international suppliers in large quantities, compare that to the 3400G that is MIA.

Too many for who? They're gonna do something with those wafers, so may as well sell product.
Well that was my point, they are trying to get rid of Zen 2 chiplet stock ahead of Zen 3 launch.

For 12nm not sure what happened, maybe Renoir is later than expected, ot the mobile demand is far higher than expected, but the 3400G should have not stop existing like this, Picasso production fell way short.

They're downbinned 2600s. The only way to properly differentiate between them and older 14nm R5 1600 CPUs is to mention the distinctive product code (ending in "AF"). Please stop calling people stupid when they provide you with useful information. Thank you.
Sorry, didn't want to intentionally call people stupid.
But calling R5 1600 , 1600AF creates confusion. New serial number ones have exactly same clock speed and boost speed, so why we need to distinguish it?? Late stage silicon will always perform better, as the process mature in time.

It's a different product. It's not a 2600 because it's poorly binned, and it's not a 1600 because it's 12nm instead of 14nm.
It will have IPC gains over 1600 from process improvement but not as much as a 2600 because it is not binned as well.
Hence the new serial number.

IPC gain ?
If frequencies are the same, how is it going the get better IPC if it is a straight optical shrink from 14 to 12 nm ?
Better boost behaviour I'd get it. Better IPC...

Zen+ wasn't a 100% optical shrink. The architecture didn't change but there were some minor layout tweaks (beyond shrinking) and some bug fixes I believe as well which allowed for lower cache latency. It ended up giving ~3 - 5% IPC increase over original Zen.

Late stage silicon will always perform better, as the process mature in time.

It's a different process AND a different product. It is a 2600 rebadged as a 1600. The only confusion here is AMD passing off a Pinnacle Ridge as a Summit Ridge. It is not Summit Ridge.

The 2600 is widely avalible all over the world and i can still get it from local and international suppliers in large quantities, compare that to the 3400G that is MIA.

That could be from there being more 2600s in the channel initially. Unless you have dates on the lids of 2600s identical to those of 1600AF CPUs, you can't really prove anything. It's not worth it to fret about it regardless.

Well that was my point, they are trying to get rid of Zen 2 chiplet stock ahead of Zen 3 launch.

That may or may not be true, but none of what you say about the 2600 or 1600AF has anything to do with 7nm wafers coming from TSMC.

Regardless, it's a great thing for the downmarket. AMD is dumping 12nm CPUs and 7nm CPUs at a price point that is largely irrelevant to their existing and future product stack. If you wanted cheap Zen+ or Zen2, there you go. Great for consumers that are still in the market.

It is this. For the reason GlobalFoundries is down ramping FinFETs in order of release. 14LPP first, 12LP second, 12LP+ third.

April 2020;

I expect we will see 12LP eventually disappear, with that PR SKUs being replaced by MTS SKUs.

One day it is

OPN PIB - YD270XBGAFBOX
OPN MPK - YD270XBGAFMPK

Then the next it is

Damn 4.5 GHz? Budget performance monster.

Yep, even at 4.4GHz all core this will churn through most every-day tasks rapidly!
I hope my file server board will support this CPU, as I would love to upgrade my mildly OC Athlon 200GE to Ryzen 3100. Running my CCTV recorder on this PC makes it quite busy most of the time on a CPU front, especially when reviewing recordings or exporting it for Police (which unfortunately happened few times already).

The days the budget chip flys pass my 7700k. Yeah so hyped for this 3900x upgrade. This friday with any luck i could do all the upgrades i had in mind. :) Glad someone is having some fun with the budget stuff, those clocks are insane though i guess for Ryzen? People always quick to seeing the 9900k win at gaming but its needing like a 500mhz bump just to keep on top? 3900x and less chips clocking to 4.2ghz vs 4.7ghz on the 9900k and it holds up rather well i think anyways.

I heard the 3900x is not exactly a overclocker, nor is anything else for that matter. But this 3100 oc is a eye opener. :)

Mine will do 4.4 GHz, but I've never tried 4.5 GHz. And I don't plan on starting.

Sent message :) We had a chat once about the overclocking on those things so i kinda welled on a bit was a lengthy post i figured you only would wanna read. Went off topic a bit i guess.

Just heard a rumor that AMD would release better binned version Ryzen2 in coming summer (3600XT, 3700XT, 3800XT, 3900XT, 3750X, 3850X or something similar). Stay tuned.:p

EDIT: lol it's already become a news around the web

Seems unnecessary somehow. I can't fathom why they're releasing more Matisse CPUs at this point.

Very high 7nm yields, beeter binned CPU+higher CPU frequencies. If price is the same no problem, or even beeter you will buy "old R5 3600" even cheeper.

Zen 2 CPU-s, five years in the future still it will be very good CPU series.

Overclocking the 3900X doesn’t make sense to me. I snagged one this week and it easily hits 4.6 GHz on 1-2 cores and 4.4-4.5 GHz on 3-4 cores. That is stock and not overclocked.

I don’t know of the accuracy of the WCCFTech rumor, but I do expect AMD to release slightly better binned versions of the chips. They may couple slightly faster clockspeeds with other small tweaks (IF speeds maybe?) to get a small, but measurable boost. They will likely release these chips as a new product to regain control over the news cycle from Intel.

I don’t believe this means anything for Vermeer. They could surprise everyone and launch Vermeer alongside the chips, however.

Very bad idea they are out of bios rom space and want to release more models? If they must a plus suffix would be sufficient.
And i would like this trend, stop the not having a letter on the "standartd" models:

Parts TodayChange or Keep
R5 3600R5 3600S
R5 3600XR5 3600X
RX5700RX5700ST
RX5700XTTX5700XT

It can hit those speeds, but only in some weird circumstances will mine sustain those speeds. 4.4 GHz OC across the board is (on average) a speed improvement.

@Asterox

Allegedly TSMC can run N7, N7P, and N7+ somewhat interchangeably in facilities tooled for N7. I wouldn't think it would be in AMD's best interest to order N7 wafers under those circumstances.

This.

I would hope they would replace Matisse entirely soon. We don't need AMD adopting Intel-like release schedules.

From what is known Zen 3 is on track for Q3 2020 along with RDNA2.

These new 3000 series might be Zen 2 cores with some of the Zen 3 enhancements maybe even the new IF.

I HOPE this will not be the case. People still hanging on to their 2600K is proof of stagnation in the CPU space for a good part of the decade.
For sure it can still perform daily computing tasks with great aplomb. But with Intel and AMD one upping each other, I have my doubts that Zen2 will be able to hold a candle next to anything coming out in 4-5 years.
TSMC's >3nm/Intel 7nm/SS 3GAE, High speed DDR5, stacked dies, wider cores (harder to scale up now), more cores, more SFUs, Coherent memory fabrics(CXL, IF 3.0, etc), FPGA integration(I hope), PIMs(I hope) should make current chips spartan in comparison.
