The Blu-ray hasn't even come out yet but he is selling a 720p DVD-R rip (likely from a HDTV broadcast) with the following tagline, "THE 11 times oscar winner movie comes in high definition and comes in a dvd disc !!!!! You can view this movie ONLY IN YOUR PS3, XBOX 360 and PC. u dont need a blu-ray or HD-dvd player. An ordinary dvd drive is enough to view this movie in the above 3 systems :) " Plus there's another page where it's pretty obvious he's selling DVD rips as well.

yup time to report his ass to the mpaa and the rest.

Well first of all don't buy from shady websites. Second, if it's a reputable site they'd have more than one option to pay for something. Third, don't shop on eBay since Paypal sucks. There are many more options to get stuff cheap than eBay.

#1 - first and foremost, if you go down the road of using your CC company to do a chargeback against Paycrap, be fully prepared to lose your Paycrap account forever. Paycrap absolutely despises chargebacks, and will do everything in it's power to shaft you. Ergo, if you "don't care", make sure all monies are cleared from your Paycrap account and unlink any bank accounts and credit cards you may have linked to it, otherwise Paycrap can and will try to collect funds (without your authorization mind you) from them.

I do plan to talk to my CC company and am in the process of getting all my financial info removed. BUT even after I've removed my credit cards and bank accounts, can they still charge me somehow through former financial info? I remember I removed my bank account a while back and then recently when I wanted to re-add it the info was already there. So what I'm asking is can they still charge me with financial info they may have on file?

No. If you removed all of your linked accounts, you are rescinding authorization to access those accounts (not that they ever really had legal access anyway, but that's another story). If they do try to access your bank account(s) after the fact, you can slap them with all sorts of law suits.

Can you point me to some other options? I just don't know of any. The only other one I've heard of is Bidpay but I figured that was just like Paypal.

Well, as far as using eBay, no. Unfortunately eBay owns Paycrap, and since has basically required everybody to use Paycrap in order to make even more profit when using eBay.

Outside of that - Google Checkout, Bidpay, and my personal favorite go-to - a US Postal Money order (one actually purchased from the Post Office, not from Walmart or whatnot).

How much did you pay?

I paid $20USD...that's why I'm just wondering if it's better to cut my losses and forget about it.

It was NFS:Shift by the way...it was literally one of those warez releases...there was a crack on the disc and everything.

That is hilarious, but yeah, consider it a loss. Report his site/pp to ebay and whoever else does copyright stuff, get him in trouble.

I buy stuff on eBay sometimes and Paypal is basically the only way to pay when using eBay. What other auction sites are there for buying used games and such?

So I went to that guy's site, clicked on the 'fun stuff link' and ended up playing pacman for about 30 minutes here at the office. I got my money's worth from this guy.

Sorry OP, that sucks....

At least you were only scammed out of $20, and not a much larger amoumt.

I second the motion to chargeback the transaction through your CC company, if enough people do this, maybe the seller can't continue is seemingly illegal behavior.

Terrible idea. Thinking buying from grey markets is legit? Wow. I'd just take the loss and chalk it up to being an idiot. Lesson learned, move on.

Since this is rather interesting (since grey market generally means legal) but what makes grey market not legit?

As a purchaser of imported games on occasion, I'd like to know what law is being broken. (First Sale Doctrine in the US protects me in most cases)

True. I meant black. I was reading the posts as I wrote and I think someone said grey somewhere, got stuck in my head and came out. :) There's nothing legit looking about that guy's site.

Again, what alternatives are there to Paypal? I just don't know of any more.

with all cander, you're a fucking idiot if you don't do a CC chargeback. while this doesn't generate the same $ as nigerian scam business, it's accomplishing the same.

Lol I'm still undecided...I do use ebay once in a while which is why I'm hesitant to get rid of the paypal account altogether which is probably what would happen if I do a chargeback right?

Why do you think a CC chargeback would "get rid" of you paypal account?

Also..please stop blaming paypal for the amazing naivity of the OP. Yes, i am using PP myself for a long time already, yes, its not perfect, yes, buyer (AND SELLER!!) protection sucks.

But this doesnt change the fact that OPw as very blue eyed naive buying a game from a FREE WEBHOSTING site from a "indian guy" which didnt even have a real email adress, let alone ANY other indications on the site that its a legal business. Eg. CC processor, support, contact adress, the BASICS even.

from that pov..yes..you lost $20, sucks...but take it as a lesson and dont be so naive next time you buy something. Be glad it was only $20, i myself already lost $600+ multple times since as a service provider or seller of digital products you have ZERO protection from paypal. And there is always a certain precentage of fraudulent purchases. From that point of view..i wouldnt even bother with $20

Edit: And chargebacks happen all the time, and, no, why should it influence YOUR paypal account? YOU were the one scammed..cheezus dude....

I'd also like to add, he had his ebay account and had a decent amount of good feedback which is part of the reason I agreed to buy through his website. Of course he's not there any longer. :|

When I spoke to someone at Paypal before he said I would get charged some fees (he wouldn't say how much) for the chargeback. Was he lying just to get me to not do it? Someone else mentioned I might lose my account earlier in this thread too.

contact CC company and let them know Paypal is dicking u.

Don't paypal charge fees from the buyer if the transaction is reversed by the CC company? I thought they do that and is sorta what I gathered from talking to them today although they were purposely being vague.

And the CC company will say how is charging a service fee applied on illegal software?

I think this is only applied when it doesn't break the law.

First off the sale was straight up illegal. So therefore it not allowed to take place.

Paypal helped broker the sale, so there just as guilty, now that they found out the software was illegal.

If you get a service charge for that, its BS.

Notify CC company... if they charge you, it will be to your CC company, and your CC company will say F off Paypal.

If paypal no long does business with you, then so be it.
You got goggle pay, and other sources.

The important thing is, that u were caught in an illegal sale unknowningly, and u want to correct it, with the broker(paypal).
