Someone sold me a pirated PC game

So I bought a game from this guys website:
http://entertainment2011.webs.com/pcgamesstore.htm

I originally found him through ebay and he had a decent amount of good feedback but he asked me to use his website instead so I said okay but asked him several times if the games are new and legit and he said yes (even says on his website the games are new and unused).

I opened a dispute with Paypal but they said they don't offer buyer protection for this purchase. Should I try to get my credit card company to reverse the payment? I'm pretty sure Paypal will charge me for that...anyone know how much?

If it makes you feel anybetter, if you click the paypal button on his site you get a nice message from paypal. "This recipient is currently unable to receive money."

Damn it...happens now after I purchased. Paypal said they won't do anything...and they'll charge me a fee (the guy on the phone wouldn't even tell me exactly how much the fee would be...he said minimum $10) if my CC company reverses the payment...what BS.

What do ya'll think?? Lesson learned and just forget about it? Or contact my CC company to try to get it reversed?

Tip: If a persons website has games cheaper than stores like ebgames or gogamer and they are new they are full of it because they do not have the buying power of these stores.

This guy is from India and from what I know certain markets have games that are cheaper don't they (and some don't include online play)? I've bought a game for cheap from Thailand before and the game was legit (manual was in Thai but the game was in English and case was proper too).

send him a detail email with the problem and ask for an immediate refund of full price paid. Once he replies he either does so or you then contact the CC company with copies of the emails for a dispute.

just not worth it trying to save money by going through shady sellers like that.

if a game requires a CD key or account creation/activation, i will never buy from anyone outside of retailers and digital distribution services. the risk is not worth saving some money.

I emailed him yesterday and today...no response.

This is why I don't use Paypal any more cus they offer almost no protection but you took the chance from buying from a shady seller and got reamed. You probably won't get anything out of this. Just take it as a lesson to buy only from reliable sources.

Sucks though. Hopefully the game is single player?

How much did you pay?

I paid $20USD...that's why I'm just wondering if it's better to cut my losses and forget about it.

It was NFS:Shift by the way...it was literally one of those warez releases...there was a crack on the disc and everything.

send him one more and CC yourself giving him a stated required time to respond, works as good as if he did respond cause all you really want is to show a paper trail for the bank to justify reversing the funds.

and if you don't do anything then you're supporting him.

I know I want this guy to stop but the Paypal charges may end up being more than the game...and it looks like something is happening because he can't receive money anymore from that website.

Well...like I said I've got legit games for cheap before from Asian markets (which I believe sell for cheaper sometimes)...so I thought it would be okay.

Screw payapl. It's a lesson I learned long ago. Never, ever trust your money to non CC paypal. Reverse CC charges, move on and never, ever use paypal again. Paypal has about as much buyer protection as if they'd just mugged you. It's the biggest reason I will never use anything that cannot accept CC for purchases.

It was done by CC but the problem is that Paypal will charge a fee (undetermined and they were not willing to say how much it would be) when the CC company reverses the charge.

Could Paypal actually charge in fees more than what the cost of the item was?
