i see no point in being so relaxed as to let others personally attack people, curse them..etc. its childish and pointless. even the constant use of calling others morons is redundant. posters should learn intelligent ways to have a debate and reason ideas.

If you demand intelligence, then for the love of god please start writing like an adult and show some yourself. I'm normally not a grammar nazi (and lord knows I mess up too), but you might as well be texting based on what I'm seeing. Use your shift key, learn the difference between the "theres", anything to help your case.

It stems from people that need to feel smarter than everyone else, so they clump anything that has to do with religion into a bible-thumping-child-molesting-creationist-believing morons. The problem is the worst of the bunch is what the Internet actually sees, and then what the Internet sees defines the group.

I can tell you that I am Catholic, I am very private about it, I don't shove my beliefs in other people's faces, if someone doesn't believe in what I believe in I respect that, and there have been no sex scandals or any other types of scandals in our parish in recent history. In fact, our pastor makes $25000/year, and he donates most of it back to the church to pay for programs to educate kids in music/language, upgrade nursing homes, feed the homeless, and setup education programs for orphans.

I don't believe in a lot of the dogma of the Catholic church, and at this point I'm not even sure God exists at all as we now have reasonable explanations of everything back to the creation of the universe, but I can say that he church does so much good that I'm glad to be a part of it.

Is the OP gone yet?

PRO TIP: Anyone who attempts a serious discussion of religion on the internet , outside of sites dedicated to that, is either:

A) Serious Troll
B) Serious Idiot

Believe me...I see more than just Internet reports of religious whack jobs. I have several of them, Baptists, in my family so I get to see the crazy close up.

My wife is Catholic and our kids go to a private Catholic school, and much like your experience her particular parish does a lot of good for the community. However there are still some nut jobs that want to ride off on a new crusade or feel the need to get in my face whenever they find out I'm a "heathen."

Hell due to my wife's crazy parents we couldn't get married when we wanted to originally because they forbid it. Kids out of wedlock? Oh sure, that's fine since "God needs more soldiers", but marry a non believer? They would have none of it. Luckily they are now dead.

We all know there are good and bad sides to religion, I just find it funny how the ones that want to preach the loudest at you in order to save your soul are the least willing to listen to your side of the story.

For many on AT, anonymity is a license to be an immature ass. That's just the way it is in almost any thread where people have differing opinions.

I've got pretty thick skin when it comes to myself. Flame me all you want, I've probably heard it before. But all the hate that goes on around here is just getting out of control.

And now this place is getting flooded with anti-religion posts. I mean there is normally one or two going on but now its all the time. I'm very spiritual but I also realize that not everyone shares my views. That's fine. But why insult things that are Holy to us that are spiritual? Does it somehow make you feel better about yourself? What exactly do you get out of it?

While I do like it here, I don't like being insulted every time I log in.

Sounds like you spend way too much time here if you start caring about what random people (ones you will probably never meet in your life) post or say.

i type, i don't write. not everyone can type on keyboards as well as they can write and has nothing to do with my grammar...it has to do with how well or rather how bad i can type on a keyboard quickly. so why would i bother to spend 10 mintues going back fixing errors just so that you can comprehend my posts which you obviously are already comprehending?

its about communicating, not grammar

I dunno if it is quite 50/50....60/40 maybe.

Of course I'm a fiscally conservative don't give a damn what you do in your private life so you can fuck goats, as long as they are willing and of consenting age, if you want to atheist so I'm a bit hard to categorize.

Ya, you could be right about 60/40. It's certainly not as lopsided as some like to claim.

To the Christians-Jesus said don't cast your pearls before swine
I don't see why they can't leave it alone(this applies to the athiests also)
I am Christian but I don't believe in "Spreading the Word" to each and every person that I encounter. It wasn't meant for everybody. And it is supposed to be for those who ASK!

But... if it's really true then shouldn't it be?
They have to ASK for it.
Look I don't believe everything they tell me and I sure as hell don't believe everything that I read in the Bible.
I beleive in Karma and reincarnation. I beleive that Christ was sent her to help those of us who ASK shed some bad Karma and thus not have to reincarnate anymore.

Taking anything said on an internet foum to heart is a ticket to insanity and heartbreak. Ignore it and live happy.

I do find it slightly humorous that someone named "rudeguy" is offended by an internet forum. You should be thriving in this type of environment.

What I find strange thing is that he works at a call center, presumably cold calling people, getting told to go to hell and drop dead left and right, yet he somehow still manages to be offended by posts, not directed towards him, about someone or something that there is now way to prove even exists, on an anonymous internet forum.

Rudeguy, you never did let us know how the interview went. After all the time we spent making sure you wouldn't show up dressed for a job at McD's, you'd think we deserve an update. :D

I get along fine with most, It was my personal experience.

You will know if you live in India for long, how Christian Missionaries exploit the poor. They give these people money when they convert to Christianity.. if they are doing service to god.. they should help any one in need.. why should they convert them to their religion and then help them?

In the US.. they attract international students cos they are always short on funds. I hate those people who pretend they believe in god for the sake of money, and I also hate those religious institutions which attract these kind of people.

I already explained my issues with Hinduism in my previous post..

But again you are talking about fakes. People that claim to be something without actually acting like it. I hate it just as much as you. I also know not all missionaries in India are like that, because I happen to know one that is Indian-born and spends half the year there. He's a fantastic gentleman who has a real heart for helping people.

We agree on the dislike of corrupt religion. I shouldn't be thrown in with the lump just because so many fail at comprehending the purpose of Christianity. I shouldn't be discriminated against just because so many churches fail to understand the point to a church. The ignorance goes both ways, they are ignorant of what Christianity should be, and so is everyone that says they are representing Christianity. They are representing the blind.
