One of my neighbors works for the CIA. He's upgrading his clearance, and she's doing the background checks.

She's interviewing everyone on my block.

my neighbor moved in 6 months ago. the only thing i know about him is his name.

so basically i said i had no info on him. she thnaked me for my yime and left.

the funny thing is that when u flash a badge, you dont see enuf to actually tell if she's who she says she is.

she could have been a PI working for someone sueing him for all i know...

makes me want to ask to see the badge for a longer perioid of time, if there's a next time.

you can ask to see the badge as long as you want within reason.

Would the DSS ever be doing background checks for the CIA? AFAIK, the FBI handles background checks for a lot of different govt. agencies. For example, I believe they do NSA background checks as well.

Seems one of the high points they are digging for is to verify that someones has fulled aired any dirty laundry on the clearance paperwork. I've never gotten the impression that they really care what you have done in your past as long as its disclosed and can't be used to blackmail/coerce you into revealing sensitive information.

sounds fishy to me

i dont believe there are multiple levels of CIA clearance - at least upgrades that would involve reinvestigation. could be periodic reinvestigation i suppose. wth do i know though

This is a fabrication-I work for the CIA and we don't tell the plebians that we're checking up on an agent-we just tap them.

From what I know about security clearances, my friend told me that not all agency use the same process. I heard the CIA will reject any existing clearance not cleared thru their process. You may get a top secret clearance from work or the military, and you'll still have to go another round of background checks thru the CIA. Also, my friend said that depending on your clearance, you are giving up your privacy for some time. That means they can monitor your Internet activities.

I wonder if FBI agents realize how sweet their job is. Do they try to pick up chicks by telling them they work for the FBI?

When I worked at the Naval base in Long beach California I had to get a CIA pass.

I had to get clearance before I flew down there.

They had different levels of clearence also, I dont know if this applied to Agents though.

Shens. If you have a TS clearance you shouldn't be revealing it because people *will* track you down and torture you... until Jack Bauer comes and busts their asses ;)

j/k. Though revealing details like "I work for the FBI/CIA/NSA/HS/military/etc" is not a good idea. Of course you could be using reverse psychology so that no one actually believes you...

yes. when he moved in i introduced myself and made a little chit chat.

thus why i assumed she's who she said she is when she bought up the fact he's in the CIA.

UTmtnbiker- yeah, i have no idea what a real FBI ID looks like.

MaxDepth- no skirt and 3" heels. pants and a jacket. i'm assuming her gun in underneath the jacket since ALL fbi field agents are required to have a gun.

yeah i had that happen to me too when one of my co-workers applied for a permanent visa. the guy came in, (had the courtesy to leave his gun in his car there was a holster but no gun in it) showed me NO ID just said he was from the FBI and was wanting to know more about my co-worker, i told him everything he wanted to know we chatted a bit more about just stuff and left saying he would be back later to talk to my boss, he did come back a week later, again no gun, no badge, but the fact he knew my co-workers name (hard to say/spell) and that she was applying for a visa was proof enough he worked for a government agency. (my co-worker is anti-social so nobody knows her other than her co-workers/boss)

I thought that for the FBI, leaving their gun behind was a no-no.

well it was very informal, and it was a very hot day so he was not wearing a jacket, and i would think he thought he would be more like bullying us for info if he was showing his gun.
