Do you have a daughter? Because its good that your making plans now - its not IF this scenerio shows up, its when. It could be when she's 21 but dating a 60 yo. Will you be happier about it then? And BTW the law wouldn't be able to do anything unless you could prove they were having sex, so bringing the law to his house wouldn't accomplish anything

This has been a pretty amusing read so far. I love how some people have definite answers about right and wrong with no information to base it on. I guess that's what happens when you ask for advice on an internet forum though and the OP should have forseen this.

Like some have said... it all depends on the individuals involved. I work with HS students and some of them are maturity-retarded and others are pretty level headed. You know your friend and if your gut tells you there is something wrong there probably is. If he's breaking any statutory rape laws then there is something definitely wrong and you need to tell him to pull his head out of his rear before the authorities get involved. If they really are "in love" he wouldn't mind waiting for the sex. Seems more likely to me that your friend is bitter over being dumped and wants a relationship with a child because that gives him some sort of control and is less demanding than an adult relationship would be. Do you drive? is a lot easier to deal with than What are you going to do with your life/career?

I'm not a psychologist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last nigt...
 
Yes , I do. Once she is of a reasonable age , I would allow her to make decisions on her own. I don't feel that sixteen is anywhere near that age.
Granted , I would do what I could to convince her to make a rational decision for herself at 21 , 25 or any age , but at 16 , I still have the responsibility for her and no 25 year old is going to be associating with her closely enough to consider dating her if I can prevent it. They damn sure won't continue to do so if they were to start dating her.

I resent the fact that you implied we all agree it is OK for our daughters to get an abortion without parents consent. If the parents would do their job in the first place and raise kids properly and know where they are and what they are doing , it wouldn;t be an issue.
I have seen it many many times. It is easier to let the kid do what they want ,than to be responsible and take the time to raise and teach them.
I personally believe the parents ought to be held responsible for the actions of their chldren until they are of age.

How did you establish that she was legal in LA? You guys do know that you can look up the law for free online right? 17 is the age of consent in the state of Lousiana. You do realize that different states have different laws (you've heard of the reserved powers clause yes?)

he asked me fisrt if they could date and he asked me first to marry her.
they have been happily married for 14 years, they have 4 children and now own thier own
home. he does not control her just because he is older then her.

Yeah really.. not everyone whose with a vastly younger woman is a criminal. None-the-less - if she wants to report him because he's taking advantage of her age, then that's fine. I don't think it should be the job of a third party to rat on someone for engaging in an unusual and maybe unbalanced relationship.

There's a big difference between a 16 year old (well above the average age kids start having sex these days - regardless of whether that's a good idea or not) and if she were a 10 year old. That's when you tell. She's 16.. for the most part, she can at least make a choice about it.
