Okay, here's the problem with your argument. You are a TOURIST. You are bringing money into the country for them. Of COURSE they are going to treat you well and be kind because they aren't going to get any money out of you unless they do. It's like a Chinese restaurant on a gargantuan scale. OF COURSE they are going to take you to the nice places while you are there because who the hell visits China to go visit factories with horrible working conditions and poor villages full of people with gripes about the government. Great, some skyscrapers went up recently in the area you are in but that doesn't imply that every person in China can build a skyscraper. Okay, so no new skyscrapers have gone up in NYC in a while but maybe that's because NYC is in a position where the cost of land is so high that it's more economical to renovate one of the thousands of available spaces in a few months time rather than taking a few years to build a new building. Land is probably more affordable in China because it is plentiful. If you think the economy in NYC/ the US is struggling because people aren't building skyscrapers or selling computer games for $10 then you're a jackass.

Finally, have fun with customs. They'll balance out the prices on your games that won't back in the 'States for you.

"Hey guys, I went to this nice restaurant last week and the waitress was all over me! She kept smiling at me, playing with her hair and laughing at my jokes. I left her a big tip and my number, think she'll call me?"

In recent years there's been a noticeable influx of chinese people (mainly mandarin speaking) from the east, at least in my part of town. Of the people I know who have came here (some have paid upwards of $40k for the priviledge) all of them said they would actually prefer to go back as they enjoyed a higher standard of living back home, with many more opportunities and lead a generally more interesting life than in NA.

I now work in Shanghai and make about $1400 a month. Before I used to work in the US and make $5000 a month :(
But the living expense here IS cheaper (that is if you don't live a tourist lifestyle), for instance my apt is only about $400 a month, eating out is 5$ a person.

What I make here, even though it looks small for US standard, is actually quite high here. Starting graduates make less than $400 a month

alright, first off, sorry but the U.S. sucks compared to China, for anyone that thinks differently, unless you've been here you can't argue.

So stay there. A paradise like that is hard to find, go extend your visa and find a nice home.

I'm sure the university's are every bit as good as those in the US, and probably cost penny's to attend. After you graduate you'll be able to get a high paying job with plenty of vacation time to enjoy that lovely country.
Perhaps you could help to educate the tens of thousands of Chinese nationals that try to leave that workers paradise and move to the USA. Or perhaps you help with the boat loads of refugees arriving from the US every day.
Whatever you choose to do, I'm sure they can find a place for a man of your obvious intelligence.

Seriously, you can't compare Asia countries with the US. They are apples vs. orange.

One thing I like about the US that Asia countries can't or don't have:

1. Wide open space...not a lot of undiscovered places left over there.

2. Interstate highways, good roads....ever drive in big cities heavy traffic in Asia? Talk about an adventure.

4. Freedom of speech... good luck if you want to talk politics or how bad the government is in communist countries like China, Vietnam, etc.

5. Standard of living...things are cheaper over there for a reason. People (average) are making a few dollars a day.

6. Corruption...cops are not perfect in the US for sure but I never seen blatant corruption/harrashment for $ like over there.

7. Noise/dust/cleanliness.... talk about dust and noise and other stuffs over there..especially if you live in big cities (a few millions people jam pack like sardines..even denser than NYC).

That's all for now. Mom kept asking me to move back over there and marry a local girl. I still haven't make up my mind yet. Maybe one day.

I'm suprised how negative people are towards China...actually, i'm not. The U.S. view of this country is completely manipulated. Chinese people are nicer, kinder, more polite, more respectful, harder workers, healthier, more outgoing, the list goes on and on. I'm actually depressed that my vacation ends in 2 weeks.

As for the $1000 for airplane tickets, actually yeah, I did spend that much, then when I got here my new family (my wife is Chinese, hence the vacation) gave all our money back and then some as "welcoming gifts". If China's so poor as everyone says, why is it i'm sitting over here $3000 richer with 2 casmere (spelling?) suits in the closet and a suitcase full of computer software and games :) Meanwhile I've hit every nice restaraunt I've been able to find and I'm having a great time.

And that 1 baby comment was stupid. It's regulated by the government to avoid people having 5 or 6 kids like in america and then leeching off the government welfare system. Try looking past propaganda and experience things for yourself.

Just to note, there's gotta be some 20 skyscrapers going up in just this area where i'm staying, not including the rest of the city or down at the beach. If this country sucks so bad, why is it that in NY where I live, i havn't seen a skyscraper go up in years? China's economy is strong, ours is weak, I actually feel sorry that people don't realize this and take a couple of ques from what they're doing out here because of that "superiority complex" americans have.

Like I said in my first post, I didn't want to hear from any people that havn't been here themselves, you just have no idea what you're talking about unfortunately.

You sound like a fucking idiot. You see one sliver of China, and think you now know it all?Why dont you take a little drive outside the city, and see what real poverty is? You are seeing the small minority of Chinese that live in the booming urban centers. The U.S. is a 1st world, mature economy. Growth like you are seeing isnt possible anymore. Your POV is the same as if someone from China flew over here and stepped of a plane in the Hamptons, and assumed everyone in America lives on gated estate lots with a tennis court in their back yard.

So you're taking a 4 week vacation in China? And you think it's the greatest country? And you want to live there? How many Chinese people can afford to take a 4 week vacation? Fly to America? Have fun in your new country.

wow, so video games make up enough of your life to declare the best country?

I hope you are at least seeing some of China instead of holed away in a hotel room playing games.

In equator they sell 'legal' software for $5 per copy. Comes on a CD with a sharpie title and a xerox'd copy of the COA/Serial. Some guy here was insisting that made Equator better than the US too. He still didn't believe us that his software was illegal.

I've been to different parts of China and I couldn't agree with you more. Just stay there and let me know where I can send the rest of your belongings, and don't come back.

I've actually noticed alot of mainland Chinese in California these days as tourists. Over Christmas break, there was a huge population of mainland tourists walking around. They basically looked like the replacement for the Japanese tourists of 10-15 years prior. You can definitely tell that the population is getting wealthier, granted, on a percentage of the whole population, it's not that astounding.

To the OP:

You need to visit some Western provinces. Swing by Anhui province and take a look at the immense poverty that that entire region still lives in.

I am not even going to start listing the reasons why the US is a better place to live than China. There are way too many. All I am going to say is that if you are going to jump to that conclusion based on a vacation that you are taking over there then you fucking lose dude. Once you move over there without an insane amount of cash and you become a blue collar worker just trying to live life happily for a few years, then we will talk.

When you come back to the states, please stop voting.

I wonder if that "other guy" had your incredibly spelling abilities. Maybe I should move to Ecuador

easily wowed by economic growth i guess.
how many of those games were made by the chinese? you can't support much r&d/development if everyone steals from each other. i'm not sure whats so wonderful about that. basically the chinese leech off the west in that area. i'm not sure what rock you crawled out from under because cheap games in asia have been around for a long time. nintendos and supernintendos even had 3rd party after market disk drives that you could load floppy copies of games onto. its nothing new at all.

go visit a Chinese prison sometime. become an activist and see how wonderful china becomes for you.

never mind health and safety standards or business ethics. stay there a while and your lungs will pay a hefty price. theres nothing wonderful about extreme pollution.

tourist areas cater to tourists as said, it means nothing.

anyways, if you calculate airfare and cost of time/vacation into the cost of those cheap games, they are no bargain at all. you waste precious time you could be exploring the country shopping for stupid copies of stuff that isn't even unique.

problem being that chinese along with french are rated one of the worst behaved tourists. they are cheap for one. japanese were at least well off and polite.

Americans living in China make really good wages and have a very comfortable standard of living than compared to the US for a few key reasons.

- Americans can work at multinational companies in China that pay US salaries, sometimes the same wage as the job in the US. There's also many chinese companies that hire US contractors and pay very high amounts to US contractors that work and live in China (up and over 100k for degreed managers, not even Ivy school degree quality).

- Foreigners in general get higher salaries because of their experience and language skills (usually they are hired for their US schooling or experience at US companies). So while the average chinese graduate can still live very comfortably on an X salary, an American working in china will live even more comfortably at a salary of ~2-5 X or more than a chinese graduate.

Don't quote me on the numbers, but it's the general trend from my experience from being in China, and talking to various people (chinese and american) who live/work or are thinking of working in china. Ask your local economics/MBA school about the specific numbers and trends, but they'll most likely mimic what i'm saying right now.

Summary: Americans with college degrees (non-bullshiat ones) can live very comfortably and be financially happy in China whether it be at a US based company, or local chinese company

I think you'll find that ANY message board will give you negative responses if your OP insults the country where it is based.;) Especially if you continue to do so in subsequent posts. You reap what you sow.

Nice try though.

The problem with China is the government, and POLLUTION.

If it's so great, then stay there.

I'm planning on it, but i'm not done with my degree yet, when that's finished that it's more than likely i'll be back out here.

Oh, and flammable, customs was never a problem, again, misguided American ignorance...this is why China and the U.S seem to tense towards eachother, it's the American aggression towards China because of a feeling if inadequacy some people have over perhaps not being the #1 country in the world anymore. We're not, so I think people should get over it and start looking to mingle with other countries instead of standing out on top of the crowd. The world has become more diversified and globally reachable, there's no more i'm here you're there mentality in business; so why is it that the U.S. needs to portray themselves as superior? I came out here for an experience, and no i'm not an expert just because i stayed a few weeks, but I have done my share of reading about the culture, the government, the people, and what I found in American history books compared to the reality of what I see walking down the streets, it's nothing like we're brought up to believe...20 years ago it was like that, but this country has changed, and we don't want to accept that. It's strange that a republic still sees Communism as a threat when they've done nothing but improve the status of living for their citizens over that last 10 years significantly. I haven't seen anything like that in the U.S., i've seen consumer confidence drop, the housing market go to hell, social services get abused, the economy pack up and move overseas and the void between the upper and lower class income become wider as time progresses.

Some people need to try looking outside of what the mainstream media tells you and look at other countries as your friends, not the next target to fire a rocket at...man.

So where exactly have you been? Big cities? With your nice American money? No wonder people treat you well - you're a tourist! Naturally, whoever is showing you around has shown you the nice things. Nobody goes to see the slums, the poor, or the problems - everybody goes for the nice stuff.

As for the attitude of America, are you serious? The US might make mistakes when it comes to China, but blaming all of our trade issues on this country isn't doing any good either.
