So what's the conclusion? I am still on Atkins, sort of. I don't eat a lot of fat. Mostly chicken, turkey and fish. I eat some raw nuts too. But I do eat low carb cereal with carb countdown milk instead of regular cereal and milk in the morning. I eat a lot of salads too. I don't necessarily lose weight anymore, but I keep it off. With low fat diet, I could lose the weight, but then it would be very hard to stay on it. I don't think eating eggs and steak for breakfast lunch and dinner is a good idea, but I am open to someone convincing me that eating chicken with potatoes is better than eating it with salad greens.

Also, if you are convinced that Atkins is a short term fad diet that will be shown to be dangerous, now is a good time to buy KKD stock :)

and what the hell would your brother know about a heart? He's not a cardiologist. Obviously he performed your brain surgery though

Where did you get the idea of eating eggs and steak for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

People are eating less fat than they ever have but they are getting fatter. I don't think a low fat diet is the answer.

HE DIED FROM A HEAD INJURY AFTER FALLING ON SOME ICE!!!

Geeze, how does this story keep going?

Proof
yes, and according to snopes it is undetermined whether he fell because he had a heart attack, or whether he just slipped. Plenty of people slip on ice, few people die because of it.

If there ARE no facts supporting either side, don't defend one of them.

Yeah, I know I trust some website over a professional news organization any day

I did not assume anything. I figured you were eating healthy, but I think the fact that you think people only need to know 40/40/20 was silly. I argued it by showing that you could follow the information you've provided so far to eat both healthy or unhealthy. Now you are going to add more information about your diet and end up with something similar to Atkins. My point was not that you are dieting unhealthily, but that you need more information than 40/40/20 to build your eating habbits around.

Here, make another assumption since I don't feel like going over every single column/row of my spreadsheet with you since you seem more hell bent on your 'eat less/run more' approach to dieting.

I am not hellbent on eat less/run more. Quite the opposite. If you re-read my post you will realize I was also making fun of someone elses comment to the affect that all anyone ever needs to know about losing weight is to simply run more and eat less. They are both retardedly oversimplified terms that do not address the full spectrum of what needs to be done to stay healthy.

I just can't figure out why people need a diet that has a brand name.

Why not just do the spreadsheet diet and figure out what works best for you? The typical person responds well to a 40%/40%/20% (protein/carb/fat) plan but that doesn't mean it will work best for you. I guess everyone wants instant results though so experimentation in dieting and exercise is usually left for others.
Ever tried doing your idea for a lengthy period of time?

You just asked the wrong guy. I've been doing a 40/40/20 diet for over 3 years. I'm 5'10" and weigh 173 pounds at 7.6% body fat (last checked bf% and weight on Friday).

Is 3 years a long time?

Got any pics of this 7.6% bf? Vast majority of people unless they're bodybuilders or other professional, greatly exaggerate their bf%.

My brother in law's an internal medicine doctor and he says it's very bad for you. His colleagues, which some are cardiologists, say it's a terrible diet as well. Of course close minded people still won't believe it until they're dropping dead of heart attacks/strokes.

What is his reasoning? Does he think bleeched white starch is good for you? Has he read the book and which part of the diet does he consider bad? Would he consider a slight variation in the diet good for you? Does he believe Americans eat too many bad carbs?

whoa...this thread got huge and I didnt even notice.

I dont know much about medicine but here is what I can figure:

When I was on the Atking, I was losing weight, but eating more. I would eat massive amounts of the things I could. If I was full I didnt think about carbs.

Now I just eat when I am hungry and until I am full. No more finishing my plate just to get my mind eating carbs.

The Atkins works well for some people, others it doesnt.

stop being so dense. The news article says NOTHING more than he fell and hit his head. Some people have suggested that the reason he fell was because he had a heart attack. There is no "proof" either way, so stop pretending there is.

I hate replying like this on the 3rd page of replies...

But (in lamens terms) if you eat hard candy all day, it keeps your metabolism up and anything you consume will be digested much more quickly because your body will be ready for it.
