They want the material removed, but how can they verify it was removed?

By the way, at the risk of Syringering you all, heres the follow-up:

Dear Subscriber,

Thank you for the reply. Many people are not aware that most file sharing
programs place downloaded files into a 'shared' directory that will allow
others to see and download these files from them. We understand that you were
likely not aware of this. We recommend that users of peer-to-peer networks
disable the 'sharing' feature of their client to avoid future DMCA complaints.
If the materials listed have been removed then everything necessary has been
done. We appreciate your help in resolving this matter. If you have
additional questions, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Cox Customer Security

That's hilarious, they're basically saying "if you plan on stealing from the internet in the future, please do it the right way, dumbass."

Now that is comedy gold right there. :D

And I'm amazed that I haven't received a letter like that from my ISP yet. Granted I don't do a lot of downloading, but on occassion I do get a few TV shows that are being monitored.

I had something similar happen when I was using a p2p program awhile ago. I got all nervous about it but nothing really happend. I called cox up and told them that I unshared the files and no one seemed to give a $hit about it in the first place. Unless they sue you directly, lay off the downloads for a bit and try not to leave up bt for so long.

im pretty sure i got the SAME EXACT EMAIL from cox back in july of last year.

Seeing as how they didnt do a damn thing, I suggest you just not bother with it, they arent going to suspend your account.

anyway I ended up seeing the email earlier this year. That was due to the fact that I never check cox email.

Uh guys that was a question in disguise.

Copyrighted material? Figure it out.

Yeah but the MPAA don't care about Pron production companys.

Are you sure? It is, after all, copyrighted motion pictures.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) represents the following motion picture production and distribution companies:

Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc.
Disney Enterprises, Inc.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.
Paramount Pictures Corporation
TriStar Pictures, Inc.
Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation
United Artists Pictures, Inc.
United Artists Corporation
Universal City Studios, LLLP
Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

If you're truly worried about pron .. just check if any of them make any

So, get going and format your computer using your HDD manaufatures software (low-level format, this turns all the binary data to zeros). Dont just reinstall windows.

You could be in some serious sh!t!

Low level format still dont get everything out.

Use PGP wipe for that.

Dear Cox,

I'm cancelling my account. Give a big <^> to the MPAA for me. I'm going with <insert other company here>.
