 they want you to stop sharing it what's so hard to understand?

They didn't use spyware to search your computer, they caught you uploading it as part of your p2p. Get a Netflix subscription and stop using p2p.

Cox is required to "act expeditiously to remove, or disable access to" the infringing material in order to avoid liability for any alleged copyright infringement. Accordingly, Cox will suspend your account and disable your connection to the Internet within 24 hours of your receipt of this email if the offending material is not removed.

(c) a statement under penalty of perjury that the subscriber has a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled
(a) - (d) are only for if you were not infringing. Stop sharing, tell them you've stopped sharing. Be happy!

seems like they're only after one movie. is a total reformat neccessary ? 'sides, its the only movie i downloaded on this comp, and only cause i was too lazy to get to blockbuster .. *smack*

LMAO!

Relabel all your illegal movies and see if they figure it out...for example, rename Being John Malkovich to Debby Does Dallas😀 Or you could simply do what they ask, which isn't unreasonable..

Yeah, send a reply with this:

It's deleted, leave me alone.
- Customer

They're simply asking for your word in good faith that you've deleted it. Take the 10-day suspension if you still have to or whatever, and get on with your life.

Eh, sent em an email saying i had deleted the offending material, and as such it couldn't be shared anymore.

Yeah, movie wasn't great, don't mind deleting it ..

Well .. if i'm not online tomorrow then -_-

so maybe remove it?

Go buy the DVD and then write a letter back to them telling them to suck it out your ass? 😀

Although, I'm not sure what the current interpretation is of copyright law concerning dvd copying...so maybe that's not the best approach.

Read the e-mail very carefully. If you quit offering/distributing copyrighted material within 24 hours of your receiving the e-mail, they won't suspend your account.

Yeah, I'm not sure what part of this isn't in English.. Seems like common sense to me... Burn it to CD, delete it from your computer, and get on with your life.

edit: note: Cox did not say you had to delete it.. you just aren't allowed to share it online! You're busted for uploading it... not for downloading it..

Even the MPAA states it this way: "We have received information that, at the above noted date and time, the IP address 68.101.39.49 was used to offer or to materially contribute to the offering of downloadable or streaming copies of copyrighted motion pictures. The title(s) offered included:..."
In Canada, downloading isn't illegal - only uploading (IIRC).... It seems the MPAA is somewhat following this as well - pursuing sharers, rather than downloaders.

Please note: this doesn't mean you should use hacked versions of torrent clients that let you download without sharing..

People who steal suck.
People who steal and screw everyone else in the torrent communities by taking without sharing suck even more.
(and, maybe the first sentence was a little harsh.. I'll admit to it.. I've downloaded plenty of Southpark and Simpson's episodes... But, I'll be among the first to buy the dvd's when they come out.)

Any body that uses TWC/Roadrunner ever get one of these? I've always heard that TWC has so far refused to give out info to the MPAA/RIAA about it's users.

I use TWC/Roadrunner and never seen any of these letters. Been with them for years and so have all my friends. I'm glad to be using Roadrunner 🙂

I recieved one of these letters from Cox a month and a half ago...for the SG Atlantis premier. I made the file inaccessible and that was the end of it.

Write them a nasty letter telling them if they continue to give out your personal info to the RIAA/MPAA that you'll sue their ass and that you never signed any agreement stating they can.

Don't forget to mention that if they choose to cooperate, you'll supply them with free copywritten material for a month and to stop being jealous of your torrential skillset.

That's actually what I'd do, and I'd sign it by dipping my 12" schlong in ink and pressing it to the paper just so they know I'm hardcore.

I got one of those letters for sharing Minority Report on kazaa when it first came out (3 years ago?). This was when I had AT&T@home back when the @home network existed. At the time I was sharing 160gb of movies, tv episodes, music, but they only complained about Minority Report. You would think if they were going to complain they would at least run a scan of what files I am sharing... I thought it would take them a long time to figure out that there's more to the world than kazaa. But I guess they figured out BT already. Oh well. No letters with SBC yet!

Rename everything to be abbreviated. They won't be able to figure it out. haha.
