Apparently, they've been monitoring some IRC networks too. Usenet however is as open as can be; it's not realistically possible to track anyone, nor is it easy to use, so they leave it alone. When the RIAA/MPAA has made P2P synonymous with piracy, and ISPs block BitTorrent, the Newsgroups will still be standing.😉

PS For anyone who gets one of these letters, do the following: Stop sharing the file in question. You don't have to reply, you don't have to do anything else, you've just been "called", and need to stop sharing the file that the complaint is for.

FTP and FXP> all. this is only if you have the source.
 
GOt one of those letters form my ISP aswell, No biggie, just stop sharing it (in my case I ran an FTP server), or close it down. :cookie:

Hm... if you are breaking the law then cable companies certainly are required to provide your personal info if asked to do so by a court. Many also have a policy about file sharing in general to keep on good terms with big brother. I doubt you would need to "sign" anything specific about your personal info. Read your cable contract, I bet there's something in there about copyright infringement.
