So I got an iPod and an iRiver at the same time

Grabbing any and every mp3 from a random computer would be a nice feature on the ipod. Of course you can still grab it to
the hdd as a file and later put it into the ipod database. That or carry the winamp ipod plugin on your ipod and use it with
winamp on the host computer. There are tons of ways to get the mp3 transfer capabilty but it is a bit of a hassel since you have
to install some kind of software. I wonder though, since the ipod has a unique way of spreading files around in multiple folders
and whatnot for its database if in the end searching through 20+gigs of music ends up being faster on the ipod or on the iriver?
I can't say i've noticed the ipod stutter on my music list no matter how large its gotten. Whereas on a zen you are obviously accessing
folders and subfolders which causes a noticable lag in the file display.

folders make a whole lot sense than stupid id3 tags, in my opinion. we are all each entitled to our opinions, so no need to bash either party. i personally cant stand ipod (or any mac product for that matter) look and dumbed down interface so i know i am not getting an ipod. think about firefox vs IE, firefox is arguably better but some sites are not compatible with it and its not like you get a cancer from using IE. both get job done, so the main difference is preference of each user.

with that being said, it is a pretty much widely established fact ipods sound quite worse when used with headphones. while OPs axioms look pretty nice, headphones are inifintely ahead of them in terms of resolution (this cant be argued, altho imaging is definitely something YMMV), at least at that price point. to me nomad njb3 is still the winnah if mobility isnt a big concern, otherwise gimme karma over anything out now.

Just wanted to throw in there that the Iriver can sort by tags. You must enable DB mode. However, I personally use the folder method.

And I stand by it. When talking about the general public, which is dumb as dirt (though quite a bit brighter on average than yourself), an easy UI is a big factor in DAP purchase. I don't need & wouldn't want it, but then I can tie my own shoes and understand words with more than three syllables.

I'd like for you to answer a very serious question - how old are you? I'm guessing 10 or perhaps 11 - am I right?

Man if the iPod had a remote like one of my MD and the remote plug came out horizontally (less of a problem) and the battery life was better and it wouldn't drop badly after a 5 days without use it would be almost perfect. The size it it was shorter but that is ASKING a hell of alot out of it though

I defiantely want to check out the Sony NW HD1 but don't fancy the conversion of my mp3's to ATRAC even though they sound great on my MD's . I just want NATIVE SUPPORT!!!

Just to reiterate, it's not just technophobes that prefer good user interfaces. This has been proven time and again by HCI and UI experts. There is absolutely 0 doubt that a well designed interface will be better than a poorly designed interface for everyone.
