While I used to be a gun owner and kept a loaded revolver for home protection, I wouldn't just shoot somebody that walk in my house. I'll wait to see if he is an actually threat or have given me reasonable belief that he is.

Probably a good idea. Theres at least a couple stories from the last 12 months about drunken teenagers accidentally entering their neighbors house and being shot dead.

I loath the idea of civilians having guns. I've said it already a thousand times on this forum. Most humans aren't trustworthy enough and the only thing that saves the majority of them from doing something stupid is opportunity or situational availability.

I disagree. Most people are smart enough not to act reckless. However that does highly depend on the culture and the person's upbringing and his choices.

So what I am hearing is at no point can the original aggressor despite retreating, fear for his own life and use his own deadly force himself in Florida.

Were he armed, too, could he have responded with lethal force in Florida?

If someone is arguing with my wife and is armed, gets pushed to the ground by me, and I have no intent or make any other advancement can I shoot them dead if they reach for their gun?

We are visiting Florida next year and want to know ground rules...
Checking in from South Daytona, we had a shooting 3 days ago at a small hotel about 1.5Mi from the house, 1 dead, 1 in the hospital 1 treated and released. Bring your weapon, you might need it, the problem with carrying, (as is obvious here) is the sense of empowerment it gives people. That guy probably wouldent bother to start a fuss over a handicap spot, (at a convince store where it's a dumb idea anyway, all parking spots are close to the entrance) had he not be armed. Even though the attacker was clearly moving back away he was (unfortunately) legally killed under FL law. I don't think he would have been charged with brandishing if he did not shoot, the video would have exonerated him from that. Go back to the Zimmerman/Martin shooting, does anyone really think Zimmerman runs after a complete stranger on a dark, rainy night without carrying?, NOPE.

Well, it's hard to know the difference between someone who will be a life long responsible gun owner and a piece of shit. Especially since a very large number of gun heads fight so vehemently for their killing "rights" a.k.a. pieces of shit. I don't trust them. I won't trust them.

Yeah there are no "killing rights" at all. But there is a legal right to protect your life, within reason.

And so would I. We have police that can't handle that responsibility so what makes every Tom, Dick and Harry think that they can?
We have exponentially more police handling the responsibility well than we do abusing it. So why do you assume a law abiding citizen can't?

And "reason" gets to be determined by the individual gun head situationally. As I said, I don't trust them.
Have you been around actual legal gun owners? Most of the people I've been around that legally own guns are not reckless at all and are responsible.

I believe the State Attorney's office will bring charges against the shooter. The shooter was known to hang out in the parking lot of this convenience store armed and confronting drivers parking in the handicap space. They may be able to get him with premeditation.

"This guy -- he did this before."

Ali Salous, the owner of the Circle A convenience store, told us Drejka has caused problems at his store before.

"This guy -- he did this before," Salous said. "He always hangs out in the parking lot and if he sees someone parking, he just wants to start trouble with people."

At the convenience store Friday, customers filed in and out, buying cigarettes, lottery tickets and sodas, many of them familiar with details of the shooting. Mustafa Hashen, a clerk and witness, said both men were regulars.

It wasn’t the first time he saw Drejka in a fight with another customer. A couple of months back, Rick Kelly stopped by the store, parking his tanker truck in the same handicap spot.

The details to Thursday’s incident are similar: Drejka walking around the truck checking for decals, then confronting Kelly, 31, about why he parked there. The fight escalated, and Drejka threatened to shoot him, Kelly said.

"It’s a repeat. It happened to me the first time. The second time it’s happening, someone’s life got taken," Kelly said. "He provoked that."

I've never been to this store but it's only a few miles from my place in Clearwater Beach.

Now I'm wondering if he was actually carrying illegally? All that shit he was doing will count against him in a jury trial.

Sounds like he was hunting.

And I'd agree with that, but a certain % will be self-entitled assholes because a gun gives you the last word. These types would probably like to get into any kind of stupid altercation and just wait, (here in FL) for the other side to act threatening so their "last word" is perfectly legal.

Sheriff made out like we should not look into his history. As if his history doesn't show a pattern of behavior or actions that conclude with him shooting and killing someone. FL seems to be full of scumbags.

Yes my father was a very responsible gun owner. His guns came out for hunting season only. My uncles were the same.

My brother on the other hand went to jail for stealing a gun (from a cop). Was told he could never legally own a gun after shooting over the head of one of our neighbors for being annoying. That didn't stop him. He owned several guns until he died.

No other member of my family owns a gun.

Mmmmhmmm!

I don't think it is that simple even in FL. The police are still required to do an investigation.

Small town living. No, he didn't go to jail for that. The cops really didn't want to send him to jail for stealing a gun either because he only drove the car but it was out of their hands.

You can tell that this piece of shit has been practicing his "I feared for my life" speech in the mirror for years...

It will be real interesting to see just how many people this menace has threatened to shoot in the past for parking in that spot.

I will shed zero tears when someone extinguishes his light...
