People care more about what happened in Florida because self defense or SYG or WHATEVER is being used when the killer starts a fight. Gangbangers in Chicago aren't getting off due to self defense, SYG, or WHATEVER. That is the difference he was pointing out originally.

The similarity mentioned above is that in both places self defense (which is what he meant by "some stand your ground law") COULD be used.

The point is that the person that started the fight shouldn't get to murder someone and then claim they were defending themselves. If you want to argue about that go for it, but jesus stop quibbling over the exact phrase that people use.

This is like the ammosexuals quibbling over clip vs. magazine.
Thank you for saving me some typing. I didn't think it was that difficult to understand but quibblers will be quibblers and of course will focus on unimportant trigger words like SYG or clip, haha.

Are you trying to say Martin somehow knew Zimmerman was armed and that's why Martin attacked? That Martin picked a fist fight with a man he knew had a gun? What do you smoke to come up with the bullshit?
Yep. Yep. Nothing.

How much experience do you have with being on the receiving end of threats with a gun?

I try real hard not to let the TV do my thinking for me. And the defensive use of a firearm is only warranted in a very, very rare set of circumstances. Please, stop spreading disinformation to the contrary.
The hubris to think that you know what media has done to you.

How high you fly, buddy.

What is your point? I hope you aren't implying that Zimmerman somehow displayed his gun before Martin attacked, what, in self-defense? How many guns do I need pointed at me before I understand that attacking someone for following you is wrong?

Why do you ignore Martin's girlfriend Rachel Jeantel testifying about what Martin said to her on the phone: "He just told me the man looked 'creepy.' 'Creepy, white' -- excuse my language -- 'cracker. Creepy [expletive] cracker" before Martin went back to confront Zimmerman? Who was picking a fight?

But you still think Martin was an innocent victim? And that because Zimmerman had a gun in his pocket the attack was justified. Following someone as part of a neighborhood watch is not justification for being attacked.

Oh, the media has some mystical power that stupid me is susceptible to and that will override my thoughtful, moral views about right and wrong. It's the nightly news (that I don't watch) that tells me how to think. I get it, now, thanks. And thank god for those warning labels on my music CDs and video games. Who knows what they are programming me to think? And thank you for being here to tell me how dumb I am.

And all this time I thought my thoughts were my own...

Regarding the bolded, you ascribing morality to this is interesting. Or do you see the kind of wrong you are describing as something based in... fact? I'd like to hear more about it.

What does "creepy" imply to you? Anything? Nothing?

Why do you need Martin to be guilty of something? How was GZ visibly part of this neighborhood watch?

My point is that you're treating a lot of things as facts while ignoring as much context as is required to reach your desired cognitive endpoint.

You thought dumb, then dummy.

Sorry you are this naive and only finding out at this point in your life.

But this makes a lot of sense for you. Your sense that you are in some absolute control of yourself is absurd, and sad. But it explains your worldview perfectly.

I was trying to forget this thread, but have to say it's good to see justice done here. Personally I feel 30 to Life sounds more appropriate, but at least something stuck. This guy had to flex in a way that caused a young boy to watch his father die in a final embrace, up close and personal.

We're not supposed to take pleasure in someone getting a serious prison sentence and all that it entails, so I'll just say I'm experiencing a profound lack of sadness over Drejka's future accomodations and social environment.

I don't know the specific laws in FL. But to me this seems much more like murder than manslaughter. I'm fine with 20 years, but would have also been fine with a firing squad. I'm just glad some of these stand your ground fools are finally getting punished.
I think that guy should be fined a few million bucks, basically become the victim's wife's slave for the rest of his life... should he make any money, most of it becomes hers.

Yup, these D-bags are "empowered" to start shit with anyone because Mr 9MM in his pocket can settle any ensuing argument and then they try to hide behind "oh, he/she frightened me so I shot to kill". Just like that asshole Zimmerman who just had to follow along at a creep and then exit his vehicle and wound up shooting Martin. If he was not packing he'd lack the balls to do so, the fact that a 17yr old beat his punk ass proves the point.
